About This Sniff Spot

Fencing:
Enclosure:
Fully Fenced
Fence height (at lowest point): 6 ft or taller
Gaps or holes that a dog could get through: No

Others present:
Dogs:
Our 55 lb wheaten terrier/poodle mix, Monkey, is our resident watchdog. She’s a rescue so shy of humans (particularly kids), but great with other dogs. She lives inside unless your dog wants company.

Update: We've been blocking her view from the backyard via a sheet over the door which is working really well and keeps barking to a minimum. (If you book same-day after around 8am, the sheet will likely not be up so there will be barking... please keep this in mind!)

People: We’ll say hi if we’re home, but can hang out inside if your dog is reactive (although we’re happy to help you with some counter conditioning, too.) Sometimes our neighbors hang out in their yards, but are always separated through the fence. If your dog is extra sensitive, let me know and you can park in our driveway and close the fence behind you to prevent any unwanted encounters.
Domestic animals: There are some neighborhood cats or squirrels but Monkey generally keeps them away. :)
Private entry and exit: Yes, you will not likely encounter animals, dogs and/or people when entering or exiting the sniff spot

Description:

Let your pup run amok in our oversized West Seattle backyard. The space is mostly grass with some gravel and fully surrounded with a 6' privacy fence (update: all small holes have been blocked off, so it should be very secure!) Jeff is a tennis player so there is never a shortage of tennis balls, and we currently have one agility obstacle for jumping. We also have a kiddie pool/mister for very hot days. We're planning to add more obstacles to the mix soon -- stay tuned!

Our dog is perfect for dog birthday parties, too. Just let me know if this is the case when you book.

Your dog can play alone or with our 55 lb wheaten terrier/poodle mix, Monkey (if we're home.) We'll only bring her out upon your request.

Policies:
Dog type and breed restrictions: None. All dogs deserve a good off-leash romp!
Access instructions: The house is a light/blue gray with a darker blue/gray fence. There is always some sort of flag flying, usually Cascadia, but right now it's a rainbow Pride flag. If the gate is closed when you arrive, feel free to pull it open. There is a walking gate on the right side, or a driving gate on the left.
BACK YARD: The entrance to the back yard is located on the left side of the house near the basement stairs. The gate can be hard to open/shut sometimes, but just pull/push really hard and it should do what it’s supposed to. Pull the silver latch to help you open from the front yard.
We usually place a sheet over the back door to block our dog's view and minimize the barking from inside the house. It seems to be working pretty well, but let me know if it ends up being excessive and we'll figure something else out for next time.
FUN DOG STUFF: There is a trash can for poop bags under the deck along with a basket of tennis balls and a water bowl. There’s a water spigot to the left of the deck if you’re facing the house.
If it's a really hot day, there is a blue dog pool or a mister that you are welcome to set up! They're usually located on or near the back deck. My boyfriend has also been building some "agility" obstacles. There are two now, and there should be more soon!

Hours of availability: Daylight hours!

NOTE: We don't have a ton of shade so on super hot days, the yard is best in mornings or evenings (after 7pm.) We are super flexible on timing though, so if you want to adjust your reservation feel free to shoot me a message and we'll make something work.

Is the host be present?: Would love to say hello if we’re home!
Rules:
Scoop your poop and avoid the (very small) blueberry bushes on the side of the yard. (We understand it's difficult to direct your dog when they're really excited, so just do your best.)
Reminder of guidelines that apply at all sniff spots:
  • Please pick up after your pet(s). Unless otherwise noted on the sniff spot listing, please take your poop bags with you.
  • Make sure to stay with and watch your pup at all times.
  • You may not enter any residence unless otherwise communicated with the host (this includes using the restroom).
  • Please plan accordingly and do your best to arrive and leave on time. Message your host if you know you may be early or late.
  • Treat the space as you would your own, you want to get a great guest review afterward!
  • And lastly, the most important rule of all: have fun!
Cancellation: For a confirmed booking, the guest can cancel a reservation up to 2 hours before the time of the booking and receive a full refund. Within 2 hours of the time of booking, there are no cancellations.

About the Host

About the Host:
We're two young professionals with a big goofy dog named Monkey. We know how hard it is to have a dog without a yard -- in fact, that's why we made the jump from apartment living to owning a house. It's made our life *SO* much easier, so hopefully we can help some other folks out with that, too.
