Lake Cavanaugh K9 Ranch

22 forested acres with private trails and an open field area located in the power line clearing. Includes private land access to state forest trails with views. Once you park you will see the trail entrance into the forest in front of you. Take the trail down to the creek. Water levels in the creek vary depending on the time of year. Cross the creek using the foot bridge and head through the forest. In about .3 miles you will come out into the powering clearing. Feel free to explore everything in front of you and to the left (north). There are several wide open grass spaces in the power line to play fetch or just let the dogs run and be dogs. If you follow the power line trail to the left, then follow it up the hill to the forest on the other side, there is another trail that enters the forest. This is all state forest and not easily accessible to the public. This trail will lead you to the top of the mountain on your right. Hiking this round trip will take about 2 hours. Approx 5 miles and 900 feet elevation gain. If interesting in doing this hike please ask me for details.

Hike up the mini forest

Our property is shy of 12 acres, 9+ acres of which we're sharing as a private off leash dog space or Sniffspot. The entrance is over the bridge where the creek is and 'From Creek to Back of Property' is all yours to explore. You may unleash your doggies right after the bridge and chain the gate if you want. Dogs might run down the creek for a splash or drink. Continue on to our family campground, there are picnic tables you could use. Then, up the hill you go to 'hike up the mini forest', free to roam around, listen to the birds, squirrels and other critters and sounds that nature brings you. You'll find seating areas while your dogs are at play, feel free to use them. Enjoy a picnic with your loved ones if you're up for it on one of the cabin porches or covered / uncovered picnic tables. The back of property behind fence is DNR land, so rest assured you’re on your own private little world with your furry buddies. The mini forest has some large walking paths and smaller trails scattered about, also some open meadows and is at a peaceful wooded setting. This is where I go to unwind and relieve my head of stress and worries. It’s my place of meditation, while my dogs sniff and romp around like crazy, do their zoomies and play hide n seek! *If you want to save a little bit of moolah, I offer membership. Forget about the gym, you'll get your exercise here with your dogs. If you are a member of my sniffspot, or have older dog/s and would like to drive below or up the hill to park so the fur buddy don't get exhausted, message me.* Some of you have asked about the cabins. Sniffspot is unavailable if Cabins are booked or vice versa. Booking is through Hipcamp (www.hipcamp.com). Name of listing: 'Grace E.'s Mini Forest Cabins'. Check it out by copying and pasting link below to browser or search listing through the hipcamp site. https://www.hipcamp.com/en-US/land/washington-grace-e-s-mini-forest-ex9hrrp8?shareid=1ddvuyvr3yh Saturdays are usually blocked if there's Hipcamp bookings. But I would unblock the hours for Sniffspot use if that day isn't booked for Hipcamp, so please try to check back, who knows that day might be available! Anyway, hope you too will enjoy your little 'hike up the mini forest..'

A walk in Dons woods

We have a number of wide moss covered walking trails through the woods. The property is fully fenced with wire fencing. But it is NOT dog proof fencing . There is a natural wide buffer between trails and fencing in most spots. The west side has privacy fencing, hogwire fencing on the North and a creek borders the Southend. . We have dogs on the property but they do not go venturing into the woods unless we are with them.

Woodland Tranquility Pathways - find solitude!

Off-grid Sniffspot location in rural Snohomish Washington! You will have the entire 5-acre property to yourself to enjoy! This part of our property is only used for Sniffspot guests. Would be perfect for those that don’t want to interact with others (i.e. cars driving by, strangers, the neighbors... ‘chatty hosts/property owners’😉). Safe place for adventurous individuals that prefer to explore alone with their doggo(s), a doggie daycare retreat, a memorable late evening of star-gazing, or a safe place for a highly reactive dog to have fun. Details: 5 acres, off-grid experience (no power or running water) with it’s own private entrance. Two grassy sloping yard areas with “Tranquility Trails” that loop up the hill. Secluded, native woodland with mowed grass. There are (overgrown) cottage style gardens. During your visit, feel free to pick blueberries, wild blackberries, apples or roses — or pull weeds — if that’s fun for you. 😉. This location is very relaxing. Plan for a couple hours or more to enjoy the quiet, rural lifestyle. TIP: if you have any concerns about your pup(s) going down the driveway, feel free to close the gate for added safety. Note: We are raising money to renovate the cottage located on the property by hosting a Sniffspot. Please do not explore inside the house, a roof collapse could happen before we can arrange for it to be replaced.

Pig Beach (near Port Ludlow)

A .63 acre dog sanctuary for you and your pup. The yard is well maintained with dog friendly grass and has incredible views of the Hood Canal and Puget Sound. If you're interested, there is private beach access for you and your pup to explore miles of beach (public but almost always empty). There are numerous dog toys available and a massive 6+ person, dog friendly couch you can relax on and watch the canal when you need a break! Regarding the beach, there are approximately 50 steps which you will need to climb up and down to access the beach so please wear proper footwear. As this is on the Hood Canal and not a lake or a pond, tides impact the size of the beach. If you are hoping to walk endless miles of beach, the tide will need to be at 2ft or below. Anything under 4ft will give you a massive area (probably 1/2 mile or more) and almost guaranteed private area as only people with stairs can access the beach at this tide level. Though the beach is open at any point, I think the maximum height you would probably want to go is about 6.5ft. This still gives you and your dog a decent sized area to play in (approximately 500ft by 30ft or 1/2 acre). Photos 16 and 17 show the beach at 6.25ft with a very large sandy area for you and your pup to play in. Anything above 6.5 ft is not recommended as the beach just gets thinner and thinner, but you're able to try if you want. (no refunds given if you don't like what you find). You are responsible for checking out the tides before you go. Legally, I can't recommend any specific source for you to use, but you might find good information Googling "tide chart port ludlow". Regarding ADA Accessibility, my property is on a gently sloping hill. To access it, there are 2 very wide concrete steps to get to the grass. This would be doable for someone on crutches and probably ok for a regular wheelchair if you had a second person to help lower you to each step and pull you up. It's definitely not accessible to a motorized wheelchair. Sorry.

Private Sandy Beach with a Large Pond is perfect for your water-loving dogs!

In the back, private corner of our property is a beautiful pond perfect for water-loving dogs! Feel free to throw a ball or just sit at the picnic table while your dog enjoys swimming around or rolling around in the sand. We do board horses (one of which is within the fence adjacent to the open pond area), so we ask that you have a good recall for your dog. If you're a first timer here, we can keep an eye out and move the nearest horse if it becomes an issue. We also have a perimeter trail around our property that you're welcome to use. This does pass by many more horses, so not reccomended if your dog wants to chase horses. I'm new to this, so any constructive criticism is welcomed!

Please Note: 11/25/22- I’ve decided to open up the calendar for a bit to allow reservations with greater ease, but I do still ask that you message first in case someone related to our forest cleanup project is on-site. 10/1/22- At this time the property could be potentially available for your use, however, we are preparing for the forest cleanup project that we’ve been working towards with the DNR for over a year. If you are interested in visiting here, please message and if it works out I’ll be happy to accommodate you. 07/01/22- Important: The Sniffspot platform does not allow hosts the option to approve or cancel reservations, as such I have blocked my calendar to more easily control reservations. I often don’t know until last minute when the forest manager I’m working with for the DNR forest cleanup project is on-site, the logging will take place hopefully this winter. — This 21-acre forest with a large beaver pond is classified as a class-A wetland. In addition to this, you can find a shallow creek, beaver dams, old-growth forest, and phenomenal bird habitat. Find privacy and quiet with the exception of the songs of many birds and woodpeckers. This property was once a show home, but a fire took place over 10 years ago and the house was not rebuilt. While the ruins that remain are minimal, it sets an interesting backdrop; perhaps it can be the scene for a mysterious photoshoot. Within the property is a small orchard, we do ask to try to not let the pups do their business there. Spring 2022 Update: One picnic table have been added to the property.

55The mini forest is awesome! It was easy to find this Sniffspot and I appreciated the welcoming signage-nice to know as a first timer that I am on the right property. The land itself is lovely-plenty of room for the dogs to run and their human to hike around. There is even a little creek, which my water crazy golden retriever loved. We will definitely return to this spot.

55Grace was very friendly and met us outside to show us where to go. The property was great - rustic, lots of places for my 2 beagles (and dachshund mix) to sniff to their hearts content. They have never had freedom to safely explore and follow their nose for their natural instinct, so having somewhere big and open with tons of places to explore while being safely in a fence was so nice. Its just the stimulation their brains needed and we will definitely be back! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful land!

55A beautiful and peaceful spot! We loved strolling around exploring the trails and seeing our newly adopted dog run safely off leash and try out wading in the creek. She really enjoyed the freedom and so did we, knowing we had the place to ourselves. There were lots of places to sit for a picnic and even an outhouse. We'll stay longer next time!

A beautiful and peaceful spot!

55Our dogs had a blast! It is a great hilly property with lots to explore. Paths crisscross the wooded acreage.  Plenty of shade and sunny spots, plus benches for the humans to rest at. The dogs loved the creek too. I’m glad we brought a towel. We did occasionally hear a dog barking way in the distance, but since the dogs couldn’t see anything, there was no reactivity. The terrain could be considered a bit challenging if you aren’t wearing the right shoes, but there are paths to take that are easier to navigate. We will be back!

55This was one of the best Sniffspots I've been to! What a treat! Grace was such a kind and welcoming host and her land is like a private woodland oasis. You could spend all day here, so I'd recommend booking more than an hour to really enjoy it. Plenty of spots to sit and so many trails to explore we were finding new side trails to wander throughout the whole visit. Definitely take the advice to wear hiking shoes or similar as it's rocky and woodsy - there's also some steep sections where a good tread helps. But my pups had an absolute BLAST - they normally get tired / bored after about an hour, but they were still going strong when it was time to go home. The creek is perfect for a little dip if it's hot and there's plenty of open areas for fetching or chasing too. The only caution I would say is you may encounter a bit of livestock poo, so if your pup likes to roll in such disgusting delights (like mine...), come prepared lol. Can't recommend Grace's place highly enough though - we will definitely be making the long drive from West Seattle again. :)

55What a fabulous Sniffspot!!! Doogie, Thomas and I had such a great time here! It's a wonderful forest with old growth stumps that new trees have grown out of, a nice creek and numerous trails to wander. It is nicely maintained. My boys got to meet their first goats and a horse (they are in an adjoining pasture) and thought that was pretty cool. The goats came right up to the fence to say hi. Doogie is a new rescue (in our family for 2 months), so I can't let him hike in open spaces off-leash yet, and I am keeping him on his longline for a few more outings, but this wonderful, forested place with numerous trail options gives me the chance to safely test out how he's doing and give him freedom. He is doing so good, that hopefully he can be off the longline on our next visit. Grace, the owner, is very nice! There was a welcome sign and poop bags for us to use. Since it was our first time, she welcomed us, pointed out where to go and checked in with us as we were leaving to make sure we had a good time. I only wish we lived closer, but if we were headed to the mountains for a hike, we would have had to drive further, so that's ok. We will definitely be back!!

55Great experience! Grace is as nice as can be. The property is well cared for and provided a lot of opportunity for our dogs to run and get worn out. Be prepared to hike up some steep inclines in order to utilize the entire property (this ended up being a great walk for us as well!). Will definitely be going back! Oh, and though we don't think this will be the case at all times, our pups did need a bath after their visit (in the best way possible). :)

55This place is heaven! Rogue had so much fun on his birthday adventure. Running, sniffing, playing ball and swimming. He is worn out! It’s an hour drive from West Seattle. Book for two hours and bring a lunch. So worth it.

55Best Sniffspot and nicest host we’ve been to. Grace was very nice and explained the details of our visit. The place is very well kept. We had a great time going up and down the hill and exploring the little trails. Our dog who loves the water enjoyed a quick splash before we left. We will definitely be back. This spot is highly recommended.

55Every time we visit we find something new to explore. We checked out a new trail this time and climbed to the top of the hill. The dogs also had tons of fun playing in the stream. This place is paradise. It’s well fenced (designed for goats) and has running water and is very relaxing. Come here as often as I can!

55This was my second visit and once again, we had a great time! Now that I've had Doogie, my rescue dog for 3 months, I feel secure letting him off-leash here because it's completely fence. It was his first time with me off-leash in nature and he was a happy boy! YAY! He even got to meet some goats (on-leash). This is the only fully-fenced forested Sniffspot with trails and acres of land that I have found, so Doogie and I are grateful and very willing to drive an hour to get here.  I love that there are a few hills so we get a nice workout, numerous trails to wander around, a creek, lots of shade on sunny days... it's everything I wanted for Doogie.

FAQ about our Oak Harbor dog water parks

Are dog water parks safe?
While public dog parks have a number of safety issues, such as aggressive dogs, disease transmission and general cleanliness, Sniffspot dog parks are much safer than public dog parks. With Sniffspot all bookings are private for just you and dogs you bring with you and we require all dogs to be vaccinated (or have equivalent titers). All Sniffspot locations are vetted and reviewed by guests so you can find the perfect place for you and your dog. 93% of reviews on Sniffspot visits are 5 stars.
If you are worried about whether you can have an enjoyable water experience, just know that it is possible to have peace of mind when visiting dog waterparks by following basic safety guidelines. Some great ways to stay safe around water with your dog include learning canine CPR and keep an eye on your dog at all times to ensure they are not distressed. You can learn more about safety around water here.
How can I find the best dog water parks in Oak Harbor?
There are 22 dog water parks in the Oak Harbor area. The most popular dog water park is Kevika's 10 Acre Partially Fenced Wooded Trails on Private Dog Park In Mt. Vernon. You can browse all of our dog water parks here.
How do I know if a dog water park works for my dog?
Start by applying basic filters, such as fencing and distractions, to find a dog park that works for your dog. If your dog doesn't have good recall, you can visit one of our fully fenced dog water parks. If your dog is reactive to other dogs, you can visit one of our dog water parks where there are no dogs audible or visible nearby. Make sure to review the amenities of the spot to see what kind of water features are offered to make sure it works for your dog. If your dog is not a strong swimmer, then perhaps choose a dog water park with tamer water features rather than a river or beach, for instance. We also recommend reading reviews and reaching out to the host with any questions, and of course, checking water park hours.
What are the requirements to bring my dog to a Sniffspot water park?
We require that all dogs have basic vaccinations or equivalent titers. We do not allow dogs with a bite history. We require that guests sign our waiver and agree to follow our safety rules. Additionally, we recommend following our water safety guidelines.
Will there be other dogs at the Sniffspot water park at the same time as me?
