55The yard is as described/pictured & a great value! A bit small if you have a larger dog & are looking for space to run or play fetch, but still an able to play & get some good sniffs in. We’ll be back :)
55Great spot and 10/10 recommend!
55This was our first time using sniffspot and it was awesome. Cheryl was super responsive and her instructions were spot on. The entrance was at the end of the driveway on the right side of the house. The spot is exactly as described! The only sudden sound in case your doggo is reactive to it was a train passing by relatively close but that happened once in the time we were there. The fence had no openings and though I can see how a dog might get out it would take them a bit of effort so you should be able to stop them. Will most likely come again!
45This spot was exactly as described, but unfortunately my pup is still quite young so she couldn’t appreciate it fully. There were a lot of leaves, twigs, and moss that she was eating, and the proximity to the commuter rail and the wind chimes spooked her a little. All things that are not the fault of the host, just worth noting if your pup is sound sensitive. Great little spot tucked away in Somerville otherwise!
55Good spot for a dog to spend energy sniffing around, and running a little bit. Ours got home exhausted. =) We had a great time and plan on bringing our dog here at least once a week!
55Nice backyard for your puppy. Hopefully we will be back sometime soon!
55My 1 y o rescue Douglas loves to visit Cheryl’s Little Urban Oasis. He can sniff around off-leash and (consensually) wrestle with a playmate. Don’t let the size of the Oasis fool you— even though Douglas is 55+ lbs, he can get a lot of exercise this space. Thanks, Cheryl!
35Pros: the place was easy to find and easy to access. There was a little note on the fence that "sniff spot", making us confident we were in the right place. There was a porch with seats for the humans. Cons: one side of the yard is fenced with trees and chicken wire. The chicken wire has some holes near the bottom, and one of our dogs escaped into the neighbor's yard. We moved around items in the yard to plug the holes, but it definitely made for a scary few minutes when the dog was loose! Also, the yard has no grass. The ground is entirely dirt, so our pups were in desperate need of a bath by the end!
55Exactly as described. Easy to get in and out. Treats and tennis balls available!
55The space is as shown on the pictures. Quiet spot. We'll be back!

Hi! I’ve had dogs all my life, and have lived in the Somerville area for 20 years. Two of my late rescue dogs were very reactive to other dogs and sometimes people, so I couldn’t take them to parks. It was wonderful to have even a small spot for them to be off-leash and sniff and play. I’m hoping to provide such a little spot for others through Sniffspot!

The Hawthorne Hotel Dog Park In Methuen

A fully fenced yard for you and your animals to run and roam! The Hawthorne Hotel has almost an acre of land for your doggo to explore! We are fully fenced in so y’all can run without worry! Our yard features a large open grassy area to play ball or frisbee, a meadow/English garden type area, and some overgrowth on the sides of the yard that provide a fun terrain for your dogs to explore and sniff! The dogs are welcome to roam wherever they’d like! We have a hose and bowl outside for you to use for water and we have some toys and bags for you to use if needed. The yard is enclosed by a combination of a 6’ privacy fence, as well as a chain link fence that abuts the neighbors backyard, and a white picket fence reinforced with wire. We mow regularly, and often have flowers and trees in bloom! There is a picnic table and lawn chairs for the humans to enjoy, and the pups too, if they’d like! There is always ample, safe, street parking directly next to the entrance gate, which is on the side of the house. There is also parking directly in front of the Hawthorne Hotel. The best parking spot is right outside the gate! Please do be mindful of closing the gate behind you when you enter and exit as it requires a firm tug to latch. Because of the extensive precipitation recently, there can be some soft ground in the low area of the yard. It can be a little muddy after it rains. Feel free to use the hose to rinse your pup off if they play in the water. Contact us to get a viewing or if you have any questions!

Come and play in Sammy’s Playground. There’s lots to do. With the entire 0.5-acre backyard fully enclosed by a new chain-link fence (Fall 2022), the pups are free to roam and run to their hearts delight. And, wow… it sure is fun to watch them go!! Zoom-Zoom (important notices on pricing and opening the gate are at close of this section). The areas along the edges of the yard are wooded and make for fun pathways for explorations. The central area of the yard has a slight hill and is mostly open. This makes for plenty of romping and heavy-duty running- including long throws of a ball or a frisbee. Check out all of the photos and read the accompanying descriptions to get a better idea of how Sammy’s Playground will appeal to you and your furry friends!! And don’t worry about the yard (too much). There’s divots and mounds all around, no manicured lawns when dogs are at play. Go for it guys… Enjoy!! As promised, mid-May ‘24, the pool💦 was opened. While it’s likely be too chilly for humans (and even some pups), many dogs will find great pleasure in retrieving their ball or simply going for a dip in the pool. For 💦 pool use, select the corresponding “Extra” for your visit. By June, the furniture, gazebo, hammock, kiddie pool and a whole bunch more will be out for ALL to enjoy as we welcome summertime!! Yea. It’s our hope that the relationships between us and our guests remain great and we haven’t found the need to raise our hourly rate. Yea again! ——- NOTE: to open the gate, simply reach over the top to find the key. Twist/turn the key until it stops. Then, lift the knob on top of the gate and push the gate open… you’re in! The gate automatically closes behind you. Please confirm that it has engaged into the closed position and then turn the key to lock yourself in. DO NOT REMOVE THE KEY. The photos section includes views of the gate, key and lock. NOTE: As an “Extra” listed benefit, you may park your vehicle in an area away from the gate and take advantage of a leisurely stroll down the very-well-kept sidewalks of Park Street and adjoining neighborhoods. This might be a good way to burn off that last little bit of doggy energy or for some leash training while you’re here. This is time AFTER your booked time of using Sammy’s Playground (not a part of it). This is essentially a parking fee. We just don’t want you to run off without taking advantage of all the resources available to you for your dog(s).
