Description

UPDATE: We’re moving, so come visit us before the end of October! Come and enjoy our backyard! We’re less than 10 minutes from Sherwood Park (and literally right off of Baseline) but it really has the feel of being out in the country. We’re located in a subdivision of acreages, our property is 3.5 acres (the backyard alone is just over 2 acres), a mix of trees and lawn. The backyard is only partially fenced and the fence was designed to keep in horses, not dogs, but the yard is quite private with trees lining the perimeter. We are surrounded by neighbours on all 3 sides, and on all but one there is a wide area of bush separating the properties. There are no pets on the side with the easiest access. Our house is up on a hill and the backyard isn’t visible from the road or vice versa so road traffic and dog walkers tend not to be a distraction though it's possible you will hear neighbourhood dogs during your visit (or the neighbourhood rooster). You are welcome to check out in the front yard too, if your dogs are friendly, there are big spaces on either side of the driveway with lots of trees to smell. Many families in the subdivision like walking and biking down the street. We have a backyard pond, it’s not stocked with fish but has frogs and ducks calling it home this year. We also have geese often. Early in the season the pond surface is clear, the bottom is rock and mud. Your dogs are welcome to play in it but as we get our water trucked in, we don’t have a rinse station. (We will have towels for you though.) By June we see duckweed on the pond surface. Not harmful but can be a bit annoying to get out of long fur. (Although duckweed can cover the water surface, the water below is clear. It is not algae and does not produce harmful toxins. It is a tiny aquatic plant with a grainy texture and looks like a miniature lily pad.) Feel free to use the swings, hammock, benches or picnic table. And the pergola offers a spot if you need rain or sun cover with hanging lights in the evening and heat lamps if it’s cold out. Dogs are welcome to lounge with you on the futon (under the pergola) - keep in mind that it’s only mostly sheltered so the cushion can be damp…check before you sit lol. We have a zip line that you’re welcome to try out (safe up to 200 lbs) - if it’s your first time, just send us a message before you visit and we can give you a quick lesson. Swings and zip line - use at your own risk like any other park. You're welcome to stay for a picnic and if you'd like, we can get a fire started for you. There are lawn blankets for you to use as well. Seasonal Notes: -Spring: our fruit trees are usually in full bloom the first week of June (along with the dandelions). The grass tends to be a bit wet in spots from the ground melting and is usually too wet for us to bag the clippings (which means mulched grass and wild animal droppings around the yard). Best to wear closed/waterproof shoes. -Summer: we’re mowing regularly and the lawn is at its best for laying on and flip flop friendly. The mosquitoes are here though and the pond is probably green with duckweed. Our raspberries and apple tree usually start to be pickable in July - help yourself! -Fall: so many apples - please pick some! We’ll have the patio heaters and lights on in the early evening to stretch out the chillier days. This is also when we tend to see the most deer and moose. -Winter: we keep a path plowed around the yard for walking and the pond cleared for skating (after it’s frozen through). We also have the pergola set up with a windbreak for winter fires or just the heaters on warmer days. The house and yard are also lit up like a gingerbread house. Our concrete driveway tends to be a bit slippery so we recommend coming up the gravel side. If you have any questions, please reach out. Note: Sniffspot was created in the US so the funds charged to your credit card will be in USD.

Cleanliness

97% of guests said this spot was as clean as expected during their visit.

Hazards

HOST NOTE

Wildlife cross through the yard at times (mostly deer and rabbits but we have also seen moose and a coyote). We also have geese, ducks, moles, voles and other small wildlife. While we do a great job of picking up the dog poop, please expect to see wild animal droppings in the yard. We saw a porcupine once in 2019. We have a pond in the middle of the yard; no fish but frogs and ducks live there - the bottom is mud and rock, in some places more mud than rock and is about 3-4 feet deep in the middle. I get my rubber boots stuck when I walk more than a foot from the edge...dogs are light enough that they get in and out easily, but swim safely! The pond is fed from an underground source - this means that some low spots in the grass nearby can get wet. It will have green on the surface most of the summer - this is duckweed, not algae, and is not harmful. Part of the fence is wire and there are sharp edges. The yard is hilly and the ground can be uneven, there may also be holes in the ground where the moles/voles have been - watch your step! In the summer we get mosquitoes and recommend bug spray.

We moved from the city to the country a few years ago and love having what feels like our own personal dog park, right in our backyard. We spend a lot of time outdoors but are happy to share the space with others when we’re not using it. Please know that while we do our best to keep our space guest-ready at all times, we have a new baby, a new rescue pup and work full time, so some days it will be more manicured than others. We have swings, benches and picnic tables throughout the yard - make yourself comfortable and enjoy your visit! We have 2 dogs (a senior husky named Roger, our young rescue, a lab/shepherd named Ellie) and brother and sister cats - Clove and Ginger.

It’s approximately a 1/2 mile long from the old green shop parking area to the end of the big top pasture. The very large grass pasture at the top of the hill is edged with wild brush (and a very old 4 foot page wire fence) is all on the outside perimeter, the only open spot is the 2 front gates. But recall is good to have as I don’t completely trust fences as I’ve seen some pretty good escape artists get over much higher wooden fences. Barkbarn's Fully Enclosed building For Dogs To Rent In Leduc

Fully Fenced
0.17 acres

IMPORTANT: all prices listed are in USD and guests will be charged in USD. Welcome!! To wwwbarkbarn.ca We have reopened the calendar space for dogs this winter but it will be extremely limited and on a fcfs basis, however during periods of extreme cold there will be additional access for the dogs as we do not ride horses in that weatehr. Please note the arena space will be utilized by horses as well, and while we do our best to keep all the footing cleaned up there will be the odd missed scrap in the sand from the horses. The side entry door has been replaced and now has a window to be able to see inside prior to entry. There are currently steel rails at the front please do not climb the rails. There is a gate to get into the arena space. You may also see people coming and going through the barn and hear animals in and out of the barn, we have removed the door from the back of the arena and moved it into the barn area to facilitate access without interfering with our dog clients. If you have extremely reactive dogs we cannot guarantee you will not see people coming and going into the main barn area from the parking lot. As well there will be horses in pens close to the entrance door. To accommodate the high demand for time winter brings we ask that you exit the arena by the 50 min mark, allowing us some time to do a quick sweep before riders can enter. Following this schedule allows us to maximize the time available for people to use the space. Please No smoking or vaping on the property. Welcome to our fantastic 9800 sq ft indoor play area designed just for your furry friends! With a sandy footing, it’s the perfect spot for your pups to run, play, and have fun. Want to bring along a friend or two for a playdate? That’s great! Just remember, these are private bookings, so you can focus on how your dog interacts in this special time just for you and your four-legged pals. It’s an all-weather destination—ideal for enjoying a safe playtime without any other dogs around or just relaxing while your pups explore! We’re conveniently located just 10 minutes south of Leduc and 20 minutes from South Common, right off Highway 2, making us super easy to access. We share our cozy facility with Mystic Meadows Equine Centre. Just look for their sign at the end of the driveway; we’re the 4th driveway on the left side as you head south. GPS will guide you right to our yard, but keep in mind there’s no signage off the main roads. Those large buildings you see on the right side of Range Road 251? They’re not us—keep going a bit further! When you arrive, our entrance is at the front far left corner of the big grey/green building—so keep an eye out for the white door as it can be a little sneaky to spot! Park right in front of the building at the NW corner. Please note, the grey door at the front is locked for the safety of the animals in the barn, so access is only through our side entrance. Although we don’t have a bathroom available, you’ll find plenty of fast food options with restrooms at Leduc Common just off the highway, so plan accordingly before your visit! As you make your way in, please go slow in the driveway—we want to keep all our pets safe, just in case someone decides to make a daring escape! And if you happen to be running late, no worries—take your time! Before you enter, we kindly ask that you take a moment to let your dog relieve themselves outside. If they happen to mark the walls, there’s spray provided for you to use. If they happen to pee in the sand, just give it a little kick to break it up, as we want to keep the surface in top shape for the horses! Remember to pick up any poop and dispose of it in the trash can just outside the door—kicking sand over it isn’t quite enough! We like to keep the area tidy, so those who don’t pick up after their dogs will find themselves on the naughty list! And if you notice a mess left behind by a previous guest, please drop us a message so we can take care of it. If our spray bottle runs out, just let us know! We’re here to help make your experience as enjoyable as possible. And with the longer days and more daylight, we’re excited to share that we’ve reduced our pricing since we often don’t need to use power during this time! Dress warm still our space isn't heated and we do passively heat by opening all the doors during non booked times. It will always feel a bit cooler than outdoors, but it is fantastic in the summer heat as we rarely go above 17-18 degrees!! We can’t wait to welcome you and your pups for some fun! We look forward to seeing you playing with your dogs in the giant sandbox. There are some toys available, you may bring your own as well. If your dog is a toy destroyer please bring your own suitable toys. You may see us out and about in the yard we are a working business and we may be accessing our equipment, or hear us in the barn itself. That is why leashing your pets is critical until you are safely inside. We are often outside out and about more catching up on some overdue chores. However we will never enter the space while a client is inside unless specifically invited or an emergency. We look forward to seeing you at our space!
