Texas Husky Rescue, Inc. was created in May 2009 as a non-profit 501(c)3 animal rescue organization that is run entirely by volunteers and does not have a paid staff or a shelter. Texas Husky Rescue, Inc relies solely on volunteer foster families to take huskies into their homes until permanent, qualified, and loving homes can be found. Texas Husky Rescue, Inc. is a responsible animal adoption agency and ensures that none of our dogs will ever contribute to the overpopulation of dogs in our community. The work of Texas Husky Rescue, Inc. is supported by tax-deductible contributions by individuals, corporations, and grants. Our initial goal when we began in 2009 was to save 30 huskies from area shelters. We have rescued over 2,500 and counting.

Our charitable, tax-exempt mission is to save as many lives as possible by giving homeless and lost animals a warm and special touch to show them that they are loved so they can trust again and return that love. I served in the military (Navy) from 1989 till 1993. My passion in life has always been to work with and care for animals. I have 7 dogs of my own (Palen, Rocsco, BK, Chico, Beau, Star and Annie). All of my dogs, except Palen, were found and taken in by my facility, The Dog House Pet Salon. If I could take every rescue home with me, I would. We have taken in over 290 homeless and lost animals since we opened our doors for business at The Dog house Pet Salon in 2009. We have re-homed 289 of them. Dash has been with us for one year. Dash needs a little more training to become confident and trust humans again. If I cannot re-home one of my loved ones, they will stay with me and live a good life. We believe that every lost animal with a microchip, rabies id/vet tag number or a name tag should be able to be identified and the parents contacted in a matter of seconds. We created the innovative My Pet Credentials mobile app for that very reason ‚an easy to use digital platform to empower the parents of lost pets with a means to find their lost pet quickly and efficiently without the need of calling, faxing or emailing. Pet owners, pet salons, rescue shelters and veterinarians can download the MPC app or register at www.mypetcredentials.com. The cost to pet owners is $16.99 annually. The platform is free for pet salons, rescue shelters and veterinarians. I am most proud of the lost and found function that is part of the MPC pet service platform. Pet owners enter the microchip number or rabies id/vet tag number in their pet's profile. If someone finds the pet, they can use the MPC mobile app or go to www.mpclost.com to identify the lost pet by entering any one of three tracking numbers. The MPC platform will immediately display: A picture of the pet (front, left and right Image) The pet's name, age, gender, breed, color and markings The pet's most current vaccinations A button to contact the owner who will receive a text, email and mobile app notification with the good Samaritan‚ name, phone number, email and message When someone finds a pet, MPC‚ lost and found function assists in reuniting the lost pet with their family, quickly and efficiently, by giving the Samaritan the ability to enter the lost pet's name, age, gender, breed, color and any markings along with any microchip, rabies id or vet tag number (tracking numbers) and upload an image of the lost pet. Once the tracking information has been entered by the Samaritan the family of the lost pet will be able to go to our universal lost and found website, www.mpclost.com, to input their pet's tracking information and our platform will display to the family an image of their pet, the pet's name as reported by the good Samaritan, age, gender, breed, color and any markings and the name, address and phone number where the pet can be reunited with their family. This innovative process reunites lost pets found with a microchip or rabies id or vet tag number with their families quickly and efficiently by eliminating the need to post lost and found flyers or waste time calling animal shelters, city pounds or veterinarians to locate their lost pet. I could go on about all the features of the MPC platform such as transfer of ownership, vaccination records storage, vaccination reminders and scheduling appointments with your pet salon. We created Donna's Love Pet Rescue for people who want to help end homelessness for animals and provide an easy to use digital platform to help identify pets, contact owners of lost pets quickly and efficiently and allow owners of lost pets with a microchip or rabies id or vet tag number to be registered with MPC for a quick and joyous reunion! The donation we receive from you helps with. Vetting Food Training Fostering Transportation Spay and neuter Our goal is also to educate the community on the importance of spay and neutering, having dogs vetted and properly trained and provided with appropriate identification markers. Animals are family too. To make a tax-deductible donation by mail: Donna's Love Pet Rescue 5917 Richmond Ave. Houston, TX 77057

North Texas Australian Shepherd Rescue

SAVING AUSSIES IN THE DFW & SURROUNDING AREAS Two young women were helping out with two separate rescues when they crossed paths trying to help a dog for one another. They quickly became close friends. After they agreed that they each had a conflict of interest with the rescue they were helping they decided to work together to start their very own rescue and that was the day NTASR was born. While the president has amazing experience in the breed, the vice president has great experience in animal welfare administration so together they made the perfect pair. NTASR helps Australian Shepherds, Border Collies, and mixes of the two. They are open to working with other working or herding dogs as well depending on the circumstances. Don't think for a second these two women won't jump to help a dog in emergent need. Thus far, several other breeds have made their way through the rescue because of their kind and caring hearts including a doodle, a dachshund, a frenchie, and a shar pei. NTASR takes behavioral and medical dogs and gets them the appropriate rehab to be able to find them the perfect forever home. Aussies are such special breeds and deserve very particular and experienced homes.

We assist individuals and rescue groups in Texas to save dogs. We support Save A Heeler -Texas to Germany. Save A Heeler-Texas to Germany started in April 2023. In our first 4 months, we have saved 100 dogs on death row in Texas Shelters. That's 24 dogs per month! More than most big rescues save in a year! On our Facebook page, we post pictures of Australian Cattle Dogs, commonly known as Heelers (and sometimes other breeds), on death row in Texas Shelters. People in Europe, Canada, and parts of the U.S. (where Heelers are adored) see the pictures and pick a dog they'd like to have. Then we RUSH to the shelter to get the dog, sometimes only hours away from euthanasia. We treat any illnesses or injuries, spay/neuter and vaccinate. We keep the dog for 2-8 weeks to make sure the dog is healthy and behaves well, if not we train. Then we ship the dog to the new home. We have a team member in Germany, that has previously checked out the home, who receives the dog from the plane. We are a small, dynamic group with no fat! We have no administration expenses. Every dime goes toward picking up, housing, training, and shipping the dogs to their new homes! It costs $1,000 per dog to do this. Every $1,000 equals one dog that won't be killed and will live a long, happy life, making room for another dog at a shelter. Over the next 4 months (September to December 2023), with your help, we can save 100 dogs by the end of the year. Thursday, September 21, 2023, is North Texas Giving Day, our area's largest fundraising day of the year. Our goal is to raise $25,00 by then, to save and send 25 dogs on death row in Texas shelters to wonderful new homes in Europe. Please help us save these dogs by donating now!

Dallas Street Dog Advocates (DSDA) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that was formed by volunteers who care about the loose and stray street dog problem in Dallas. What we have learned from our experience in rescuing dogs off the street is that many of them are highly adoptable. They yearn to love and be loved and deserve to be healthy, happy and have a home of their own. We have also learned that the people that live in the areas, where the stray dog problems are the worst, want our help. They are instrumental in helping us catch the strays by establishing feeding schedules and routines. They also tell us about the dog's history. Some are left when their owners move out. Some are tossed from moving cars. Some are born on the street to dogs that have been abandoned. The list goes on and on. If you can think of it, it has happened. The people have watched these dogs die of starvation, dehydration and heat stroke. They have watched them suffer after being hit by a car and left lying on the street. The dogs and the people living in these conditions need our help. These dogs are typically socialized and do very well once they are rescued off the streets and given time to decompress. Dallas Street Dog Advocates goal is to rescue as many adoptable dogs off the streets as we can find foster homes for and have the funds to care for. After they are healthy and have lived in a foster home, then we find them forever homes. We see ourselves as a "bridge" between the homeless street dogs and their forever families. We also want to serve the people who live amongst this problem by offering them dog food, flea and tick prevention, education on caring for their dogs and connecting them with available resources to have their dog spayed or neutered. Together with the help of our volunteers and supporters, coupled with our passion and love for dogs, we will make a difference in Dallas one dog, one home, and one community at a time.

The Pawerful Rescue was established in 2019 as a 501c3 nonprofit animal rescue, but our founder, Stephanie, had already been rescuing strays for years. We all have a friend like that‚ don't we? No matter where she went, Stephanie would find an animal in need. It wasn't until Stephanie moved to South Los Angeles, though, that she experienced an overwhelming number of animals in need. From that point, The Pawerful Rescue grew organically. What was once just a person picking up strays and trying to reunite, vet, or rehome these little souls, morphed into an organization that is made up of like-minded individuals making a difference. Duke Hemstreet joined the rescue in 2020 and has been an instrumental part in the rescue flourishing. Our rescue has expanded into Texas, where we dream of building a sanctuary for those fur babies that need a place to call home. Our goal has always been to find the perfect home for our rescues, but if that perfect home never comes, they get to live out their days with us! We Rescue the Ones That Need the Most Rescuing! Every rescue is different. Some are breed specific or even age specific. We've rescued everyone from a five-pound miniature Poodle, to a 100-pound paralyzed Great Dane. We gravitate toward animals with extreme medical, behavioral, and other special needs as well as senior dogs. They aren't the easiest cases, but certainly the most fulfilling to watch transform. As The Pawerful Rescue continues to grow, we look forward to sharing every part of the journey with you.

Founded in May 2021, we are a non-profit 501(c)3 rescue made up of animal-loving individuals. Our team consists of animal rescuers who have been making a difference in the lives of homeless pets for over a decade. We each started as volunteers and fosters, specializing in medical needs cases. Because of the high demand for more medical fosters and rescuers, we decided to join together and start our own non-profit rescue. We are an entirely foster-based organization, so we do not have a physical shelter. All animals are kept in loving foster homes. Our founder, Caitie, has been fostering medical cases in the Houston area for over ten years.

As the Lone Star Dog Ranch began to develop a following on social media, Renee Eden was contacted by multiple rescue groups asking for her help and expertise in rescuing dogs on death row, discarded breeder dogs, and dogs in shelters. She found that she had the facility (the Lone Star Dog Ranch), the expertise, the passion and energy to devote time to dogs in need. In 2014 Dog Ranch Rescue, Inc. was founded as a 501(c)(3) non-profit. Dog Ranch Rescue is a separate non-profit business from the Lone Star Dog Ranch boarding facility. The rescue has it's own building and property adjacent to the Lone Star Dog Ranch property in Anna, TX. The rescue was formed to rescue and rehabilitate dogs in need from various sources, such as puppy mills, local shelters and strays. The rescue provides medical help for each dog, houses them, rehabilitates, socializes and trains them. The rescue accepts donations from the public that help cover all aspects of the cost associated with this process. When the dogs are restored to good health, spayed, neutered and have all of their needs met physically and socially we take the necessary steps to rehome them. Each home that a dog is placed in goes through a rigorous application and review process to ensure a positive outcome. If the placement of the dog is not a good fit the dog is accepted back into the rescue and the process begins again. Since our inception in 2014 over 2,000 dogs have come through the door of Dog Ranch Rescue and gone on to enjoy a very happily ever after.

Corridor Rescue was born in 2009 when Deborah Hoffman, while driving through the area to work, realized there was a horrible problem with abandoned and stray animals. Her tenacity and love for the dogs would not allow her to stand by and watch...Corridor Rescue was conceived! Corridor Rescue is named after a 14 square mile area of Northeast Houston dubbed ‚'The Corridor of Cruelty'. The sheer number of dogs abandoned, dumped and allowed to roam the streets in this area is mind boggling. But sadly, the Corridor area is known for animal cruelty. The animals are unwanted, seen as a nuisance, and in some cases wrongly thought of as aggressive. People hit them, throw things at them, shoot them, fight them, and even deliberately run them over. Corridor Rescue has grown phenomenally over the last decade. What started as a one-woman show now has multiple volunteer teams and a kennel facility where we are able to take our rescued street dogs directly off the street for rehabilitation. The facility can house up to 30 dogs and is staffed with two Veterinary Technicians and three Kennel Technicians. The dogs receive medical care and enrichment to begin healing and to put them on the road to their forever home. Corridor Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and is solely funded by the generosity of our wonderful donors and supporters. We are a volunteer-based organization, always looking for enthusiastic, outgoing, motivated, and animal loving volunteers to join our team. Corridor Rescue has a number of areas that you can help save lives.

We are a network of volunteer foster homes, which means all dogs adopted through us come from loving, caring homes straight to you. Since we don't use a holding facility, our dogs come to their new homes calm, relaxed, and ready for a new life, rather than being nervous and traumatized from the noise and chaos of a shelter. We evaluate, rescue, and rehabilitate abandoned Border Collies, as well as other herding breeds, and find homes that will love and cherish them forever. All of our dogs have been fully vetted to include all vaccinations, heartworm test (and treatment, if necessary), spay/neuter, and a microchip with Border Collie Rescue & Rescue contact information. Upon adoption, you will be provided with physical proof of all treatments and veterinary reports, along with a rabies tag and chip information. We will never withhold any animal information and are happy to disclose exactly where we got our dogs from and when. Our dogs have been temperament tested and reside in foster homes with active and diverse families just like yours! Our dogs are crate trained and housebroken and have received basic obedience training using only positive reinforcement techniques such as leading, shaping, R+, and counter-conditioning. We believe a rescued dog brings experiences with them when rescued, and with our loving rehabilitation, they become perfect life partners. Their backgrounds may vary from breeders to farm dogs to strays but all of them deserve the unconditional love they will be glad to give their new families. We bring them into our homes and rehabilitate them by providing love, structure, and routine. We mend wounds and clean them up both emotionally and physically. We know you have many choices of rescues to choose from. However, we believe once you get to know us, you will find our rescue family to be the perfect match for you and your family. All Kind Animal Initiative is a non-profit organization in Abilene, Texas with a mission to improve animal welfare in our community. Our goal is to educate pet owners, by providing resources to increase pet retention and accountability. We hope that by raising awareness of the factors that create an overpopulation of homeless pets, animals and humans will thrive in Abilene. All Kind believes that animal welfare is improved through sustained programming including accessible spay/neuter options, vaccination & microchipping clinics, TNR (Trap/ Neuter/ Release) cat programs, and more. In addition to having a new animal shelter facility, we want to reduce the number of dogs and cats that end up in the shelter. The absolute best thing we can do to reduce homeless pet overpopulation is — yep, you guessed it! — SPAY AND NEUTER! Bob Barker from “The Price is Right” has been telling us for decades, and now it’s time to take his advice and spay and neuter our pets. We want to make this process easier, more affordable, and overall, more accessible to our community. All Kind does this by working with local vets to improve the voucher program, as well as offering spay/neuter clinics to the public. We also want to improve pet retention in our community, so that pets who have homes get to stay in those homes rather than end up in the shelter. Community outreach is essential to this mission, whether that be providing resources to help families get through financially tight spots, expanding the foster program to make better matches, education to help families work through behavioral problems, or offering microchip clinics to make sure lost pets can be reunited with their owners.

Top of Texas Corgi Rescue was officially launched and formally organized in 2013. However, we've been helping corgis long before then.

The Amarillo Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is a non- profit animal shelter serving our community since 1988. We are not affiliated with the national SPCA and receive no funding from them or any other federal or state organization. As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, we rely on our community to keep our doors open through donations of goods, cash and volunteer time. We currently care for about 100 dogs & puppies and 40 cats & kittens. It is our desire to find perfect homes for each of our shelter animals and they will remain with us until that happens, as we are a no-kill shelter. We are advocates for spay and neuter programs and urge our community to assist in our overpopulation problem by sterilizing family pets as well as the stray animal community.

Gracies Project is a 501C3 non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating animals in the Texas Panhandle who would otherwise be at high risk of euthanasia. We provide spay/neuter, shots, vet care, housing, and other necessary essentials until our animals are rehabilitated and adopted by a forever family. Our organization relies solely on the communities help to volunteer or help fund our endeavors so that we may continually save and help our communities forgotten animals.

We are a small volunteer based animal rescue. We do not have a facility. All of our animals are in a foster home. Because of this, we have several adoption events each month and schedule meet and greets based on our foster's availability. Our dogs are posted on Petfinder and on our Facebook pages. Our fosters work hard on basic manners such as crate training, potty training, and socialization. Many of our animals are fostered with other animals in the home, however we always require a meet and greet before finalizing any adoption. If there is a certain animal you are interested in meeting and adopting, please fill out our preliminary adoption application and we will have the foster get in touch with you to discuss a possible meet and greet.

My name is Wendy Patterson. I am the founder of Scout’s Street Smart Rescue, a 501c3 Non-Profit Organization, in Amarillo, TX. When I moved to Amarillo in 2018, I was absolutely shocked at the amount of homeless, abandoned, owner-surrendered, and injured dogs and puppies. The numbers were, and still are, staggering. My mission is two-fold. One, to rescue and to get these animals’ immediate needs met. Their needs range anywhere from immediate medical intervention to getting fosters lined up. So, when they’re ready, they can be placed in their approved adoptive homes. Secondly, my mission is to go into our community to provide basic health care needs. I will provide Parvo Distemper shots, Bordetella shots, and microchips and I will try to educate the community as much as possible, by providing educational pet health and welfare materials. My goal is to continue recruiting volunteers and team leaders in all areas, based on statistical needs. Scout’s Street Smart Rescue will be one of the leading, progressive rescues in the Panhandle. I have no doubts. We aren’t just moving dogs; we are truly committed to assisting the community by helping to address the needs of its residents. I am determined and designed to be part of the solution. Together, we will continue making a difference.

Sweetpups has been in operation for over 10 years, and has assisted thousands of animals in different ways, whether it be finding a home, having its medical needs met, or boarding an animal while it's family is unable to care for it. Our family saw a tremendous need in our community and felt called to step in. This organization has been a learning experience for all involved and we have adapted to what our community needs. We offer medical assistance, education. and preventative measures to help socially and economically underserved communities in our area. We pull from pounds and take a few owner surrenders but most of our dogs have clearly been abandoned and left to fend for themselves. They would quickly have succumbed to their situation without our intervention.

Friends of Animal Rescue is a 501(C)(3) non profit organization that was founded in 2010 to assist the City of Port Isabel when the City took control of the Isabel Y. Garcia Animal Shelter. Peewee’s presently houses over 300 animals, including dogs, puppies, pigs, goats, and other barn animals. Peewee’s relies on donations only for its operation. We are a 501.c3 nonprofit no-kill animal shelter. Shelter operations are accomplished strictly by donations. Our biggest contributor, HEB Food Stores, donates all the pet food we need. Peewee’s does not get any government, city, or federal funding. Peewee’s helps those animals no one else will – the sick and the stray. The volunteers at Peewee’s work tirelessly to rehabilitate poor orphaned pets in the hopes that they will find new, loving homes. The animals are spayed/neutered, given regular heartworm preventative, and are on flea & tick prevention and medications as needed, We take dogs from a 100 mile radius around us, many of which come from kill shelters. We get them well, treat them for heartworms and whatever else ails them, get them spayed, neutered vaccinated and socialized. Our dogs are adopted out through volunteer adoption coordinators in the East Coast and Canada where we send 50 to 80 at a time. We place an average of 200-300 unwanted South Texas pets each month into wonderful homes in the East Coast, Canada, as well as a few in the Woodlands. Their applications are very strict, long, and verified, so that all the animals are placed in wonderful, loving, forever homes.

The Humane Society & Adoption Center of Rockport-Fulton (HSAC) was established in a small storefront on Hwy 35 in 1988. Now located on 3 ½ acres of wooded grounds, the “House of Hope” Shelter building was constructed in 2013. It is a gem on the Texas coast, where a small staff and volunteers lovingly care for animals that are lost or abandoned. Our Shelter is unique, with 15 fenced yards for dogs to play and run freely, 3 cattery rooms adjoined by covered screened porches, an indoor kennel room for small dogs/puppies, bathing/grooming/ laundry area, medical supply room and a front desk where volunteers welcome visitors and assist with adoptions. From the moment you enter the grounds, the facility reflects our commitment to provide an exceptional Shelter environment until animals are adopted and go to their “forever” home. We accomplish our mission with the help of a small professional staff, a number of passionate volunteers and funding from private donations and grants. Currently we can accommodate 54 dogs and a similar number of cats. Our expenses include the operation of our building and grounds, a lean payroll and the necessary funds for veterinary care, food, bedding and other necessities. Our Shelter offers many opportunities to support us, with large or small contributions of time or money. Some of the ways to be a part of our HSAC family include: • Become an HSAC member...see your dues at work! • Volunteer your time...be a part of our shelter family! • Foster a pet in need...enjoy some company for a while! • Donate supplies or funds...check out our wishlist! • Shop using our Amazon Smile link...your shopping benefits us! • Endowment Fund/Planned Giving...be a guardian of our future!

Faith and Hope Foundation was born based on mutual love of saving dogs from South Texas from euthanasia lists and the streets. Three individual rescuers kept getting in each others way and one night decided they could help more animals collectively and formed as a rescue in May of 2016. Through this effort Faith and Hope Foundation was born after many trials and errors and just pushing forward to become a 501(c)(3) in January 2017. We are a foster based organization and our fosters are the heart of this organization. We take in the injured, the abandoned, the ones with no hope or love and socialize them until they are ready to be adopted. We then adopt and transport to out of state areas where there are strong spay, neuter, and leash laws. Places that don’t have the same over-population like we do. We grew very quickly with such a great need in south Texas that we have adopted over 500 animals since we began this journey. It is truly a labor of love. We are also growing our volunteers to help our mission. Please visit our “Ways you can help” tab to learn more information about volunteer roles. Thank you for visiting our website. We are “Faith and Hope”.

THE VOLUNTEERS OF THE SPCA OF SAN PAT COUNTY are a group of animal lovers who share a common goal: providing a comfortable temporary home for dogs and cats until they are adopted. The group is open to anyone willing to contribute time and skill toward operating and maintaining this much needed facility for our furry friends, while they wait to be adopted by a loving “furrever” family. IMPORTANT GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: • Promote humane care and discourage cruelty towards all animals. • Influence public opinion with respect to pet health and welfare. • Promote the spay and neuter of pets to control overpopulation. • Seek suitable homes for dogs and cats in our care. • In its care and disposition of animals, the SPCA of San Pat County shall maintain minimum, or exceed, standards prescribed by the State of Texas.

The work of Texas Husky Rescue, Inc. is supported by tax-deductible contributions by individuals, corporations, and grants.

While trying to rescue a neighborhood stray that had been picked up by animal services, Loretta Hyde accidentally came across a storage freezer containing hundreds of animals that had been recently euthanized. To add to her horror, she was informed that the euthanizing process often occurred twice a day. Loretta knew then that she had to do something to make a change in the community and in 1995 she started Animal Rescue League of El Paso, a nonprofit, no-kill shelter. In the time since, ARLEP has rescued an estimated 1,200 animals each year and extended their reach from Las Cruces, NM to Fabens, TX, sometimes going further in the event of natural disasters such as hurricanes. ARLEP community programs include pet vaccination clinics, annual adoption events, ARLEP Play for Paws (formerly known as Rescue Runners) and the PAWS Program — a program for low-risk inmates at the county jail that results in trained, adoptable dogs and inmates with job skills and newfound confidence. ARLEP’s profound community impact and commitment to its mission has sparked national notice from organizations like National Geographic, which filmed an episode of Dog Town, USA at the shelter, and a visit from renowned dog trainer, César Millan. Animal rescue is a full-time, year-round effort that’s made possible by the generosity of the community. ARLEP is governed by a volunteer board and managed by a small group of full-time staff. The operations are sustained by volunteers, grants and donations. Contact ARLEP to find out how you can join the lifesaving work and make a difference in the lives of vulnerable animals.

There are many rescues and shelters which take readily adoptable pets; but so many times, animals are rejected because they may need extra care before they become adoptable, they are disabled, or they are seniors. That’s where From The Heart comes in … Founded in 2004, From the Heart Rescue is a rehabilitative, life-enhancing rescue dedicated to caring for the hurt and frightened victims of accident, disease, cruelty and neglect. We provide life-saving surgeries, medications and special care which other organizations are unable or unwilling to give. In fact, over 80% of the dogs entering our rescue are medically or physically challenged, disabled and senior -- all of which are considered by other rescues to be "unadoptable." From the Heart focuses on dogs, no matter the breed or species, giving each individual attention in a loving foster home while recovering physically or emotionally from their previous lives. Every day, our animals — those once abandoned, left to die on the streets, abused, neglected, sick or injured — learn the lessons of kindness and care. Our volunteers and fosters work diligently to make sure each one is given the respect and love it so richly deserves. While we may not place hundreds or thousands of animals a year, each one of the animals with which From the Heart Rescue works is ensured of a loving, thoroughly screened forever home, where they will get the second chance they deserve. It does not come cheaply to us — either to our hearts or our wallets. Each animal tugs at our heartstrings each minute of every day, as we nurse the scared, shy, injured or sick animals, working toward the day they will be wonderful, healthy creatures. While From the Heart Rescue has won many local and national awards for its work, there is nothing more rewarding to us than watching that once abused, injured or senior dog we have fought so hard to save, go off to its new loving home. These second-hand dogs are so grateful for the chance they have been given, they wish to repay that kindness with their love — given freely and unconditionally to their new family.

Founded in 2017 under the blessing of former Chief of Police, the late Gregory Allen, Law N Paws has rescued over 500 victims of abuse, abandonment, and neglect in the El Paso community. Each rescue entering Law N Paws receives medical attention from one of our partnered veterinarians and follows a treatment plan in accordance with their injuries and needs. Violent offenses towards animals have a high probability of being transferred to humans--specifically children, elderly, and spouses/partners of the aggressor. This correlation called Detective Vanessa Acosta to act and create a shelter that would rescue and rehabilitate victims of abuse while educating the public on animal cruelty prevention, reporting, and rehoming of rescued dogs. As a no-kill shelter, we take in rescues that other local shelters–including El Paso Animal Services–would euthanize because of the specialized and expensive medical attention needed to rehabilitate the abused and neglected pups. Due to the depth of injury and sickness our rescues are found in, veterinary bills are exceptionally high when compared to other shelters. Each rescue pup receives all required vaccinations and medication and are spayed/neutered. Specific medical attention an abused or neglected rescue may need includes x-rays, blood work, and biopsies. Because the collective El Paso community has had an increase in animal cruelty cases, a second shelter location has been opened and needs additional kennels and repairs/renovations to current kennels. Although partnered with the El Paso Police Department Animal Cruelty Unit and El Paso Animal Services, Law N Paws is an independent entity that receives no funding from city, state, or federal entities. We are a 501c (3) non-profit organization that relies strictly on donations and grant money to continue operations. We hope our combined visions of bettering the El Paso community.

Grand Companions was established in 1989 in response to the growing need for an acceptable means of dealing with stray animals. Since then we’ve grown from three volunteers serving a few people and pets in our county, to an organization with 18 staff members serving the Texas Trans-Pecos region, expanding our mission to help people save, honor, and connect with pets. Our purpose is to provide a feasible solution for the health, economic, and moral problems communities face in dealing with stray pets. That solution is a scalable system (a reproducible business model with costs of operations decreasing as reproductions increase) for the successful adoption of shelter pets. This Sweet Suite Shelter© system uses the business model of a centrally located distribution center, our Home Base, supplying a chain of retail outlets, our Adoption Satellites. The adoption satellites will provide an adoption resource for local government agencies, private shelters, and rescue groups, alleviating the burden of responsibility they carry for adoption and allowing them to focus on their missions of animal control and pet rescue. Laura Langham, now Grand Companions' Executive Director, found Charlie in 1989. He was our first rescued and rehomed stray. It could be said that Charlie, that sweet Spaniel mix, was responsible for building a future for shelter pets that, at the time, could not have been imagined. From 1989 to 1991, Laura began rescuing stray pets in the Fort Davis area while working for Dr. Ginger Elliott, owner of Fort Davis Veterinary Services. In 1991, Drs. Janet Greathouse and Dave Taylor purchased Fort Davis Veterinary Services. At that time, Laura had become a registered veterinary technician. later becoming the practice manager for FDVS. The doctors generously allowed a small number of strays to be housed at the vet clinic, and our small rescue group began to grow. Our Humane Society was formally established in 1993 in response to the community's growing need for an acceptable means of dealing with stray animals. Although most city, town, and county governments have animal control services, Jeff Davis County does not. So our population quickly came to expect that service from our humane society. During the next ten years, we built a strong foundation based on a reputation for excellent customer service and outstanding care provided for homeless pets. By early 2004, the increase in the number of homeless animals in Jeff Davis County and the needs of the community made housing the animals at the vet clinic no longer feasible. Laura resigned her position at the vet clinic to become the humane society's first paid staff member, and in 2004 we renovated a small building located on private property north of Fort Davis for use as a temporary shelter. During the six years of operations in that location, Laura began recognizing some unique sheltering and program opportunities resulting from the creative ideas needed in order to successfully operate a shelter and adoption center in that not-quite-optimal environment. From that was born Grand Companions' Sweet Suite Shelter©. In 2007, we formally announced our plans to design and build the first Sweet Suite Shelter© and we began laying plans for our repeatable sheltering system and expansion. In 2010 we opened the new facility for operation, continued developing our new sheltering systems and began planning for our first Satellite Adoption Center. With the closing of the Midland SPCA and their generosity of offering for us to take over operations, although it was sooner than planned, we chose to take that opportunity to reopen that facility as our first Satellite Adoption Center.

The Hill Country SPCA was chartered as a 501(c) (3) non profit organization in the state of Texas in October, 1997. From Day One, it was the dream of the HCSPCA organizers and volunteers to have their own shelter facility. This dream came true in 2003 when Ed and Trudy Brune offered to underwrite a new shelter facility to be named after Trudy, in recognition of her life-long love of animals. Construction on the new building began in 2004, and the animals and staff moved into their new quarters in September, 2005. The grand opening of the Trudy Brune Hill Country SPCA shelter facility was held in January, 2006.

In the Spring of 2014, two female, purebred, little brown dogs were listed for sale on Craigslist, cheap. A few Facebook friends on the Boykin Spaniel Lovers Facebook page came together, raised funds, and purchased these two little girls. Of course, they were heartworm positive, and these volunteers raised enough funds to take care of their medical needs. Today, these two special Boykin Spaniels are living happily, together, with their forever family and are in good health. Dogs for sale on public sites are in danger of a second poor placement. Obviously their first placement was poor because it did not last for their lifetime, and they were then offerred for sale to the general public, many of them not familiar with the breed. This organization took the initial gathering of concerned Boykin Spaniel lovers and within six months built it into a 501(c)(3) organization that reaches out to those Boykin Spaniels in need.

Over the past several years concerned citizens have formed different organizations to solve the increasing problem of unwanted, abandoned and abused animals in the Gainesville area. Under the leadership of Dr. Shelly Gomulak, Noah’s Ark, S.P.C.A was organized. With support from the City of Gainesville and donations from the community, Noah’s Ark Animal Shelter opened in February of 2006. Noah’s Ark S.P.C.A. is dedicated to providing humane treatment for unwanted and abandoned pets in the Cooke County area. Our Shelter facility operates in cooperation with the City of Gainesville to accommodate impounded animals and will accept animals relinquished by local citizens in return for a small donation. It is our mission to find proper homes for the many healthy and loving animals that find their way to our shelter. All our adoptable animals are temperament tested, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and micro-chipped. In addition to our adoption services, Noah’s Ark has combined efforts with compassionate local veterinarians to offer low-cost spays and neuter services for low-income households.

We are an open intake shelter serving Graham, Olney, and Young County. We aim to provide safe haven for the unwanted animals in our community. We provide shelter, food, vaccinations and other preventative care, comfort, enrichment and socialization for the animals in our care. We have 2 cat rooms with outdoor inclosed catio areas and a cat quarantine building to house cats. For dogs we have 24 indoor/outdoor kennels, a 3 kennel intake area and we are currently building on a dog quarantine building. We also have 8 fenced yards for exercise and enrichment for our dogs. Our capacity is 51 cats and 24 dogs though we frequently operate above capacity. We work with our local Animal Control, Police and Sheriff Departments to house the strays in our area until they can find their home. We have the P.E.T.S. satellite clinic on site monthly to offer low cost spay and neuter services and affordable vaccinations and other preventative care. Our hope is that one day our community will understand and embrace spay and neuter as the only way out of our overpopulation problem. We cannot adopt or rescue our way out of this issue. We are a 501c3 non profit organization and we rely on donations from those who care as much as we do to keep the shelter open and operating properly. We can always use volunteers and fosters. We are currently unable to take in animals from outside Young County. We have been over-whelmed with surrenders and strays in our own county and do not have the space, resources, or manpower to take in those from other areas.

The Friends for Animals Adoption Shelter is a small, non-profit 501©(3), no-kill shelter in Granbury, TX, 35 miles SW of Ft. Worth. We operate out of a small frame house on about 4.08 acres of land. We have inside/outside dog kennels, a separate isolation building, and numerous covered yard runs in our backyard area, which can house 20+ dogs/puppies, depending on size.

Hill County Paw Pals is a non-profit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt corporation that was organized with two stated goals: 1) Facilitate the installation of a county animal control program and promote and contribute to building a county animal shelter; 2) Organize to challenge the overpopulation of unwanted companion animals (dog and cats) with four programs working simultaneously–Education, Legislation, Spay/Neuter, and Adoption (Project ELSA). The severe issue with pet overpopulation is that it burdens our communities and citizens with health, economic, legal, and safety liabilities. The negative aspects of pet overpopulation include increased dog bites, roaming dogs killing livestock and endangering humans, traffic accidents, unvaccinated animals being vectors for rabies, and negative impressions to potential businesses and residents looking to locate in Hill County. Pet overpopulation stems from one source–irresponsible and misguided pet owners who allow their pets to breed at will. Starting from “one pair” of breeding dogs, in six years, 67,000 offspring can result! A single pair of cats and their offspring could produce a staggering 420,000 kittens in just seven years. The average mature cat can have three litters with 12 kittens per year. Out of those litters of kittens, about 4.7 of them are females, which in turn means they will most likely have litters of their own. Cats can reproduce starting at four months of age. Over 70,000 puppies and kittens are born daily in the US, and because of overpopulation, more than 3.7 million animals are still being euthanized each year in shelters across the country. Pet overpopulation is a community problem that will take the entire community to solve. With the input of proactive programs such as Education, Legislation, and Spay/Neuter, pet overpopulation is solvable. Aggressive programs are required because pet overpopulation can not be solved with adoption or euthanasia alone. Hill County Paw Pals owns and operates a Pet Adoption Center (PAC) at 1500 South Abbott Ave., Hillsboro, TX 76645. The PAC works with volunteer help (click here for info on volunteering at the PAC).

We're here for the undercat and underdog, regardless of their breed, age or condition. Houston-grown, we're here to help our neighbors care for the pets they love. We're not done until every animal has a safe home. Until then, we'll be innovating, improving and tracking results to find the most effective ways to save lives.

Three Little Pitties Rescue is a non-profit, 501c3 all-breed dog and cat rescue dedicated to saving animals out of desperate situations, primarily in the Houston, Texas area. From 2018 to 2024 the rescue has saved 13,000+ animals and delivered them to better lives up north.

Texas Sled Dog Rescue is a small rescue focusing on finding fur-ever homes for sled dog types (Siberian huskies and Alaskan Malamutes, and mixes). While in rescue, we will place them in foster homes, provide basic training as needed, and vetting which includes vaccinations, spay or neuter, microchip and other medical services as needed. Our volunteers are involved in all facets of rescue including but not limited to fundraising, transporting, evaluating dogs, respresenting the rescue at local dog events, fostering, etc.

Pet’s Paraiso is a non-profit organization IRS 501C3 , established in June 2023 through the initiative of our founders, Vanessa Gonzalez and Camilo Correa, who love and care deeply for the well-being of helpless animals. Our goal is to assist stray dogs and cats that have been abandoned, helping them find a responsible family that will welcome them with love and respect.

We are a small rescue dedicated to the welfare of unwanted dogs in our part of rural southeast Texas. All of our dogs are located in Texas and we prefer to adopt directly to out-of-state homes to leave more homes available for the other dogs in our area. We can transport almost anywhere within the continental US and to Canada through the port of entry in Buffalo NY. All dogs are spayed/neutered, tattooed, fully vaccinated (Rabies, DAPPvL2, Bordetella), microchipped, negative for parasites and heartworms, and current on heartworm and flea prevention per transport regulations. All transport costs are included in the adoption fee. Dogs are sent via ground transport with a number of reputable rescue transports.

The city's Animal Control Officer enforces the animal control ordinances and takes care of the animals placed in the animal shelter. The Navasota Police Department operates the animal shelter at 1607 Nolan Street, for animals picked up by animal control personnel, to assist with the recovery of lost animals, and to find homes for animals that can be adopted.

err County Animal Services enforces ordinances, such as restraint laws, laws concerning rabies vaccinations and city/county registrations, rabies control, cruelty investigations, bite investigations and animal quarantines. We also educate the public about rabies control and local laws. We have an adoption and rescue program for Kerr County animals in need of good homes. Since KCAS is the local rabies control authority, it helps county residents with trapped wildlife Mondays through Fridays, with the exception of holidays. KCAS officers are certified and trained to handle most wildlife situations, excluding protected game (deer, buzzards, birds of prey, fish, and ducks/geese).

Freeman-Fritts is a no-kill animal shelter dedicated to adopting out animals to good forever homes and coordinating with Kerr County Animal Control and other organizations in animal rescue around Texas and the country.

Pearl's Place was named after Pearl, a 12+ year old yellow lab that I pulled from the Harker Heights, TX animal shelter the day before she was to be euthanized. Pearl lived with us and loved to be in the grooming shop until she passed away 4 years after she was rescued. During the outbreak of COVID and the grooming business having to be closed for a while, I was left pondering what to do with the empty boarding kennels and I decided to officially register Pearl's Place as a 501c3 nonprofit, which was IRS official in February 2021. My focus is senior and other special needs dogs to have a place to recover, heal mentally, physically and decompress. We take in all kinds of special needs dogs at Pearl's Place; dogs with demodectic mange, bacterial, yeast or fungal infections, long term shelter residents, and even dogs from the street that are found and no one will claim. Since 2018, under the guidance and training of Dr. Faver and Suzanne Marchetti, I have been using top-quality products from Iv San Barnard that are imported from Italy, along with the revolutionary hydro-massage ozone bath. The shampoo and hydro-massage ozone bath helps to heal the dog's skin that have demodectic mange, bacterial, yeast or fungal infections, to name just a few. We have recently added another qualified pet aesthetician to Pearl's Place so we can help even more dogs get the care they need.

Our mission is to transform the challenge of free-roaming cats from a reactive problem to a community-driven initiative. We achieve this through Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), public awareness campaigns, and providing sterilization services for those who need it most.

Our History The Animal Protective Society, now known as The Laredo Animal Protective Society (LAPS), began in the 1950's when local animal lovers realized that the stray animal population was outgrowing the back yard space of Ella and Jennie Devine, the primary organizers. A block of land in the mostly vacant area of west Laredo was purchased by the sisters and the two devoted animal lovers began their dedication to take care of all the unwanted abandoned animals of Laredo. Erineo Barboza was one of the first to be hired to help, he would begin the day answering phone calls to pick up strays during the day and return to the shelter to feed the new guest. Meat markets would donate scraps, which would be cooked in large cauldrons. the shelter was first operated with private donations. For many years, the Animal Protective Society, the Laredo/Webb County Health Department and local veterinarians operated neighborhood street corner“vacunas” throughout the city, offering rabies vaccinations to pets brought by their owners. The city continued to grow and in the 1970’s there was a serious rabies outbreak. The first leash law was passed and the City of Laredo and Webb County united with the Laredo Animal Protective Society, to manage the impound facility. The City of Laredo , Webb County and Laredo Animal Protective Society worked together side by side for many years trying to find homes for all the abandoned animals of Laredo . As the community continued to grow, the decision was made by LAPS in the fall of 2011 that they must part from the role of the City Pound and the City of Laredo must assume that role. As of June 1, 2012, this was accomplished. LAPS reverted to its original role as a private humane society. Currently the LAPS shelter is undergoing much-needed renovation. With the kind donations of the community, LAPS will continue providing care for the stray, abandoned or unwanted domestic animals throughout Laredo and Webb County . LAPS is dedicated to helping sponsor spaying and neutering, placing as many adoptable animals as possible into good homes, returning lost pets to original owners and educating school children and the general public in the important role in becoming responsible pet owners

As a nonprofit 501(c)(3) NO KILL animal welfare organization that not only shelters those in desperate need but provides medical care, adoption services, foster services, transfer services and education regarding animal welfare and more on the way. It all started back in 1978, with a handful of concerned citizens, who saw a need in Polk County and wanted to help make a difference to as many animals as they could, a steady growth, saw them turn from a foster based service to a small facility on highway 190, to then move to a much larger facility on highway 146, with over 5,000 square foot dedicated to housing animals. In 2021 a new community program, the Trap, Neuter & Return (TNR) was established to serve various cat colonies in Polk County. In 2022 a brand new quarantine space was opened that tripled the space and can care for the most vulnerable in a safer dedicated space. In 2023 a new community program was established to provide free microchips to animals every three months. With more new services, such as spay, neuter and wellness, animal related products for sale and a satellite location being established in a northern state to process adoptions, we can expect a more successful SPCA of Polk County, doing more in the community.

Yaqui Animal Rescue was founded in Sullivan City, TX by Sonia Venecia. The name 'Yaqui' was chosen for the ancestors of Sonia's incredible grandmother, the indigenous Yaqui Indians from Sonora, Mexico. As a young child, Sonia spent many weekends and summers at what is now known as Yaqui Animal Rescue. The ranch was previously owned by her grandparents and was eventually sold off as the years passed. About twenty years ago, Sonia started doing what she could for stray animals in South Texas. This included providing vet care, food, and finding forever homes for homeless cats and dogs. Over the years, the need grew to be greater and greater. In 2004, when the ranch became available again, Sonia purchased the property back with the sole purpose of becoming a rescue for unwanted animals in the area. In 2013, Yaqui Animal Rescue became a registered 501(c)(3) no-kill, non-profit rescue. Sonia and our rescue team have been rescuing animals ever since, and with a little help, have saved thousands of stray animals. We are determined to help animals that have found themselves lost, abandoned, neglected or mistreated, and through no fault of their own, have also been unable to find a family and a loving home. With your unwavering support, we can continue to save more animals and make a difference in our community.

Critter Shack Rescue is an all-volunteer organization and with two paid veterinarians on staff at our low cost spay/neuter clinic. Funded by donations, fund-raisers, adoptions, and grants, the organization has been successful in rescuing thousands of adoptable animals. Many of the rescued animals come from area shelters throughout the Concho Valley and many had been scheduled for euthanasia. Critter Shack advocates for the humane treatment of animals, works to prevent the abandonment of animals, facilitates a spay and neuter program, and provides education in animal care, behavior, and humane treatment, along with establishing an ongoing adoption program designed to find caring homes for rescued animals. As part of these efforts, Critter Shack is a partner with PetSmart Charities, which provides an on-site area for adoptable cats and offers space at the PetSmart in San Angelo for dog adoptions twice a month; PetSmart Charities also makes a monetary donation for each animal adopted on-site. The mission of Cassie’s Place is to rescue and rehabilitate animals who suffer from life-threatening accidents, cruelty, neglect and abuse in order to find them the perfect family and a loving forever home. Cassie’s Place was found through the love of all animals and the passion for caring for others. The owner of Cassie’s Place has been lucky enough to know the love of several family pets. One in particular was like no other, and touched her heart so deep, her West Highland Terrier, Cassie. After Cassie passed, the best way she thought to honor her was to put her passion for animals in to a rescue named after her beloved Westie. “Every single person can make an impact on the live’s of animals. It starts with education, empathy and taking action.” Every Pet needs and deserves a good home. We understand that it can be a big commitment taking on a rescue so we are always open to volunteering your time and donating to Cassie’s Place. Animals need people as much as we need them. They need our care and kindness too.

While we are not funded by the city, the county, or any national humane organizations, the Humane Society of New Braunfels, a 501c3 non-profit, contracts with the City of New Braunfels and Comal County to house stray animals brought in by their Animal Control Divisions. We also accept stray pets brought in by citizens and if space allows, pets whose owners can no longer care for them. A small portion of our operating budget comes from the city and country contracts. We handle approximately 4,000 animals a year and at any given time care for approximately 100 cats and 100 dogs. The revenue we collect from our contracts covers approximately three days of care per animal and their intake vaccinations. If the animal stays longer, or needs any veterinary care, we rely on donations and adoption fees to cover those costs.

Our mission is fourfold: to Rescue, Rehabilitate, and Rehome adoptable animals from high kill shelters and the community, and to encourage Responsibility within the pet owning population. By providing rescue, adoption, and offering low cost spay/neuter options, we are able to connect with our community and enrich the lives of our pet population.

ARF-Texas is a 501C3 non-profit organization and we work in Guadalupe County, Texas. We provide vaccines for shelter animals. We helped design and build a dog park for our community. We are active advocates for animal care issues. ARF celebrated our 10 year anniversary in 2019! Thank you all for supporting us and helping us make it to 10 years!

SARA stands for Society For Animal Rescue & Adoption. Founded in 1996, SARA has grown into one of the largest sanctuaries in the world, with no fewer than 700 animals in our care at any given time. When outside adoption is not possible, our animals live at the sanctuary for the duration of their natural lives. Euthanasia is only employed in the true sense of the word: when an animal is suffering with no chance for recovery. No animal is ever killed for convenience. Our slogan has always been “Unconditional Life” and by that we mean that SARA seeks to save as many animals as possible regardless of species, special health needs, or temperament. SARA is a 501 C 3 Non-profit organization. DLN 74-2790363.

We have many wonderful animals available for adoption at the Sherman Animal Shelter. All of these animals were relinquished to us by their previous owner or have become the property of the City due to no owner claiming them after a stray holding period. Our staff and volunteers ensure our dogs and cats receive lots of enrichment and socialization while awaiting their forever homes. Adoption fees are $50 for dogs and $40 for cats. This includes spay/neuter, the first set of vaccinations, a heartworm test for dogs, and a microchip. If you're interested in adopting a pet, stop by for a visit and one of our trained staff members will assist you in your search for the perfect addition to your family! Sherman Animal Services partners with Sherman citizens, veterinary health professionals, and animal welfare organizations to promote responsible pet ownership and provide for the safety and well-being of the animals in our care awaiting adoption. Sherman's Animal Services Officers facilitate adoptions, assist with injured and nuisance wildlife, capture stray animals, and enforce state and local animal laws throughout the city.

Texarkana Animal League (TAL) is a 501©3 and we exist to provide protection and care for abandoned, abused, neglected and unwanted companion animals. We also promote animal welfare through programs and services that mutually benefit animals and people. Officially organized in Texarkana AR in 1994, TAL has gone through over 20 years of growth and change. Each year we help hundreds of animals and their families through our assistance programs. We have expanded our reach past Texarkana and now serve people and animals in Bowie & Cass counties in Texas and Miller & Little River counties in Arkansas. We have big dreams for the future and hope that we can count on the continued support of our community in order to achieve those dreams. TAL is a group of community-minded volunteers dedicated to improving the lives and welfare of animals. Because our organization is run mainly by volunteers, all proceeds directly benefit animal care and adoptions, and will assist with our community outreach programs such as a Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP), Foster Programs for cats and dogs, as well as educational and service projects to assist TAL’s belief that all animals are deserving of life, respect and care. TAL is NOT the animal shelter nor are we connected to any governmental animal control unit, but we do support the Texarkana AR Animal Care & Adoption Center (our local shelter) in many ways, including financially and we assist area Animal Control Officers from both Texas and Arkansas whenever they contact us.

Passion for hound dogs and the desire to save as as many as possible are the driving factors behind the volunteers who make up Helpless Hounds. With no physical rescue location, we operate entirely based on the amazing network of fosters who are willing to open their hearts and their homes to our dogs. While we are a hound dog, breed-specific rescue, we take in dogs of all shapes and sizes, ages, and medical statuses. We offer restarts and new beginnings to every dog who comes through our rescue.

The Humane Society's Pets Fur People is the oldest No-Kill, brick and mortar animal shelter in East Texas, operated under the direction of a Board of Directors and the Executive Director. OUR HISTORY The Humane Society of East Texas was established in 1963 by concerned citizens after they visited the City of Tyler's inadequate animal impoundment facility. At that time, animals were housed in one small building regardless of the health of the animals. The Society requested that the Tyler impoundment facilities be turned over to the newly founded Humane Society of East Texas. Construction of the animal shelter was completed in 1968 and the Humane Society of East Texas's animal shelter was opened. In 2013 we changed our name to Pets Fur People.

The Humane Society of Wichita County (HSWC) is a non-profit organization managed by a paid director and staff, and a local volunteer board. The HSWC is not affiliated with any national animal welfare organization, and we do not receive funding from local or state governmental agencies. 100% of our operating expenses come from the generosity of individuals, businesses, and charitable foundations in our community. All donations stay in Wichita County and directly fund the care of the animals. It costs approximately $250 per month to feed and care for just one animal. Our total operating expenses are around $30,000 per month. Our primary mission at the Humane Society of Wichita County is to care for the homeless, abused and abandoned animals in our area by providing food, shelter, medical care and affection until they can find their forever homes.  We could never accomplish this mission without the help from ALL of our staff members, and the citizens, businesses, and charitable foundations in and around Wichita County. Brief history of how we came to be: History of the Humane Society of Wichita County written July 2000 by Troy L. “Kirk†Kirkpatrick, husband of Toni DeStefano, founder, written on Toni’s birthday for her 37 years of service. • 1963: Toni, Lela Porter and Billie Pearce purchased a business on Peterson Road for $300 from an elderly man who traded and sold stray animals. Within a week, 10 people were working to feed the animals, clean and patch up the building, etc. Monthly meetings were held in churches and other places, and eventually at the Hamilton Building. • 1968: filed for state tax exemption as a nonprofit and request was approved. • 1970: land was purchased at present location • 1972: moved the old house from Peterson Road • 1973: built a new shelter consisting of 24 dog runs, cattery, cat receiving room, grooming room, kitchen, food storage room, office and lobby • 1977: received education building from SAFB, due to efforts of City and General Cecil Fox, base commander. Volunteers from SAFB including skilled craftsmen of all kinds completed the facility. • 1978: met with city manager about housing all city animals from A/C. Reached an agreement. • 1979: Animal Reclaim Center was completed on April 1, 1979 – just in time for “Terrible Tuesday†– the tornado that wiped out much of the south side of town. • 1985: filed with IRS as nonprofit. • 1986: Lela Porter Waterfowl pond was built. • 1989: added 10 new dog runs and expanded lobby. • 1990: added enclosed garage and 2nd quarantine area to ARC. • 2020: break ground on our new adoption center and renovations to current facilities

Once your application is received, we will conduct a thorough screening process which includes a vet check of your current pets and a phone screen/interview by one of our adoption coordinators. If you rent a house or live in an apartment, we will verify huskies are accepted with the landlord/management company. Security deposits are the responsibility of the adopter. After your vet check and screenings are completed successfully, TXHR will conduct a fence/home check. This is a check for gaps, broken slats, holes, compromised spots, etc where a husky could escape. As a result of COVID-19 safety precautions, photo documentation is acceptable. Upon successful completion of the application process, a TXHR adoption counselor will set up a meet and greet with you and your matched husky. Once you determine you would like to adopt the husky, you must sign an adoption contract and pay the adoption fee before taking possession of the husky. All adoptions start with a 5 day trial period to ensure the husky is a good fit in your home and lifestyle.

Thousand Oaks, California has been a safe haven for Sniffspot host, Jen, since childhood. Having grown up in busy Santa Barbara, Jen, an introvert from an early age, would seek out solitude and serenity away from tourists attractions and droves of people visiting from elsewhere. “My grandparents own 60 acres about a 30 minute drive from here, and I grew up spending every summer and every holiday visiting them on the ranch,” Jen explained. “In Santa Barbara, we wouldn't go to the beach on the weekend because that's where everybody was, so you'd find places off the beaten path where the tourists weren't. For me, the ranch was just my happy place.”
