Description

Welcome to our one acre refuge of urban nature! This property is mostly sloped and treed, grassy open space. It’s not manicured, so think tiny wild zone, not a highly maintained city dog park. Current pricing reflects that this is a relatively undeveloped location. I’ll be adding amenities and improvements as it gets warmer, and we see if our location is helpful to dog owners! It won’t be for everyone, but if your dog is a little more adventurous and sensible, it might be perfect! I’m renovating the cottage on site for a future art space; meanwhile your pets have free run of the grassy lot to sniff and dig. There are squirrels! Brookside Ave. is a quiet and fairly private back road connected to an up-and-coming part of downtown Poughkeepsie, not far from Route 9. Fallkill Creek is across the road, and you can enjoy the respite of this urban riparian zone with a view of mature sycamore trees, sniff the naturalized daffodils or find some berries to forage. From here you can easily take a leashed walk to the rail trail, Walkway Over the Hudson, the Northside Trail, or stroll to the Latin Market, Pho 92 or Lola’s. Soon I’ll be adding patio furniture if you want to enjoy takeout. In the meantime, you’re welcome to picnic in the grass if you want! Our family lives around the corner, and our animal-loving kids will be delighted if you post your pet photos from Brookside!

HOST NOTE

— Urban wildlife and groundhog holes (these might be amenities depending on your dog!) — Poison ivy in the woods, berry brambles at the edge of woods — This is a small patch of urban nature! The ground is uneven, there are groundhog holes, rocks etc. — We will have the woods cleaned out soon. It has debris from previous owners. If you go in there BE CAREFUL of hidden sharp objects!! — The old shed behind the house looks scary. It’s totally safe, I promise ;) But keep your very small dogs away from the cracked door.

Additional rules

This is a brand new site and we’re renovating the vacant stone house. You may see workers but they know to expect you. There are groundhogs and squirrels on the property along with the occasional cat. Watch for groundhog holes. It’s very “natural” and unmanicured for now so treat it like a wild park. Don’t go past our driveway to the left as you look towards the stone house — that is the neighbor’s property. The corner of the property is bound by a back wall and chain fence, with the stone wall in front. If our driveway is empty feel free to park in it. Otherwise there is parking across the street. You can stay parked here to take a leashed walk to the Walkway Over the Hudson, or try Pho 92, the Latin Market, or Lola’s. Possible hazards: -Debris and poison ivy in the forest (we are cleaning it up. If you go in watch for sharp objects and explore at you and your dog’s own risk! :) -There is building construction up the street during the week and the occasional worker parked on the street. It’s a low traffic street most of the time.
