Private Sanctuary Dog Park In Howell

Awesome spot. Pups ran and swam and had a blast. Definitely great if your dogs can be off leash!

My pups and I had a great time checking out the river trail path! The banks to the creek are a little steep, making it difficult for my small dog to get in and out unassisted, but she still got to play. The creek was incredibly clear. We pretty much stayed on the river path, I wasn't sure if there were other areas to check out or not. They dogs definitely enjoyed the space to run and sniff.

Wow!! My dog and I had such a great time here!! It was so nice to have my dog off leash and let him run and roam around! He was so nervous to get in the river at first and by the end I had to drag him out! I loved that down the path there was an opening with fire pit, chairs, and an opening to the river. The signs were also very helpful! This is on my way to my parents house and I can’t wait to come back! Thanks for sharing your space with us!

We had a blast! Everything was easily marked and the River walk was welcomed by my pup! Overall a great time we will be back!

A very nice space! My dog was so happy to be able to sniff and run without a leash. However, I’m a little disappointed that we were never able to figure out how to get back to the water. My dog has never played in water so I was interested to see how he would react. I also think some extra signage to get to the trail (and then along the trail to ensure we are going the right alway) would be helpful for people who are uncomfortable walking someone else’s yard unsure of where to go. Finally, more in depth directions of exactly where to park would be appreciated. There is one sign that says parking, but unsure where exactly the arrows were pointing. Otherwise very happy with the energy my dog was able to get out playing and running! He is a very happy boy :)

Host replied: Hi there! The arrows point down the back hill and from that sign you can see the second one that says "River Walk Trail". You can see it anywhere from the top of the hill. I'm sorry you didn't see where the entrance was, we've never had any other issues with location of signs. We hope you can return to finish exploring at some point! There's a quarter mile trail in the back right side of the property where the sign is. (We also give directions for this in the welcome message). We really do hope you can return and discover the rest of the property!

It was tricky finding the location at first but the host responded to my messages very quickly and we were able to find it pretty quick after that. We really liked the trail that runs along the river. Wishing we were able to explore more of the 15 acres. One of the other trails was totally over grown and very wet. We made our way down it a bit, not without some scratches on our legs and arms from the thorns and tall grasses that give you tiny papercuts! It would have been great to explore the wooded area but couldn't get to it. The river was nice and our dog loved playing in it. Host was very kind and quickly responded to some questions. Would go back for sure, maybe in the spring or fall when the other trail is more accessible.

Host replied: We're so glad you enjoyed the trail! The second trail you're describing is actually an old hunting trail and not trimmed for sniff spotters. It's protected marsh land so we don't have that spot set up for hiking. We have wild cranes and other animals that live back there so we don't have high traffic going through it. Hope that helps explain the space better!

Beautiful spot. Rowdy had a great time on the trail and froggin' in the creek. He slept all the way home from Howell to Lansing.
