Description

Escape with your pup to this forested haven on a spacious 1+ acre lot with fenced 0.25 acres. The tree canopy keeps the air comfortably cool, offering the perfect refuge from the summer heat. Nearby, a babbling creek beckons, providing a serene setting to immerse yourself in the sounds of nature, meditate, and recharge. The naturally wooded terrain may be uneven with long grass, brush, and fallen branches, but ample seating including swings, trampoline, and hammock are provided for you to enjoy while your dog romps. We advise caution and close supervision with small unleashed dogs due to occasional coyotes and bobcats in the area (although they are naturally wary of humans and we’ve had no real-life run-ins, only caught on trail cam). If you're lucky, you may spot a great blue heron, barred owl, spawning salmon, or even a river otter. Our spot is ideal for dogs and their humans who seek a peaceful oasis just minutes from the city.

Cleanliness

100% of guests said this spot was as clean as expected during their visit.

Hazards

1) Our yard is largely wooded and 100% free of pesticides which means there will be weeds, prickly bushes, and other native vegetation. There will also be soft soil, possible animal burrows, tree roots, fallen branches, and uneven terrain. If you require a flat, mowed yard with complete visibility this is not the Sniffspot for you. 2) Please refrain from using the slide and the dismantled playset which is temporarily stored in the area (swings, trampoline, and hammock ok). 3) Please use caution with the steps and wood plank/log walkway by the creek. Sturdy footwear advised. **We are looking to improve the steps leading to the creek but currently it is comprised of steep, uneven, narrow cinder blocks without a handrail. See photos for reference. 4) We have a couple trail cams set up near the creekside to capture wildlife activity; if you prefer to have them turned off or removed for your visit, please give us advance notice and we'd be happy to accommodate. 5) Please make sure dogs are leashed in creek area and please keep them from disturbing wildlife. Our property ends near the leaning maple tree (see pic for reference); please keep dogs within that boundary. Thank you!

First of many anticipated visits! Such an peaceful experience for our dog family! We have big dogs so we don’t have to worry as much about wildlife. They had a great time in the water. Accessibility down to the water is definitely a consideration for those with limited mobility. The amenities such as bags, hand sanitizer and water are so well thought out and make for a stress free visit. Dogs are sleeping as we speak! :) thank you!

    Another lovely visit!

Such a nice spot! There’s lots of shade which makes it perfect for hot summer days, but also sunny spots to enjoy too. There are a few cute sitting areas, lots of space for dogs to explore, run, and play, and of course the creek is a highlight! My foster dog had such a great time and we’ll definitely be back!

We enjoyed our visit today. Lots of shade and room for our dog to Sniff with plenty of spots to sit (and a hammock to enjoy). Water is provided for your pup to enjoy.

what a gem! this spot is fantastic- very safe and secluded for a reactive dog. so many wonderful big trees and foliage for lots of sniffs too! also- the creek is just lovely! great place to cool down :) we had a great time and are so grateful!

Great fun, especially on a hot day! Lots of shade and the creek was great. Wish the fence wasn't so low in a few places. There are spots that my mini aussie could've easily cleared if he wanted to. He was distracted enough playing with his friend that it wasn't a problem. We really appreciated the box of tennis balls and extras, places to sit, and all the shade on this nearly 90 degree day.

    Loved the creek !

It is a lovely wooded area and the shining star is the creek. Our dogs love the water and they loved taking a nice dip and spa lashing along the creek bed. The access to the creek needs to improve. It’s pretty sketchy and with my dog pulling like crazy felt kamikaze. I know that is in the plans. Loved it and will go again

This place is so fun! Nice and shady for the hot summer days and the creek was an added bonus.

This place is lovely, while not being the best place to throw a ball around, it is a great sniffing spot. The creek was great! My puppy's first time in outside water and she enjoyed herself. There are many bushes and the area itself is hilly also there is a quiet golden retriever next door that my dogs never even noticed. Would love to visit again, thanks so much.

Pig Beach (near Port Ludlow)

A .63 acre dog sanctuary for you and your pup. The yard is well maintained with dog friendly grass and has incredible views of the Hood Canal and Puget Sound. If you're interested, there is private beach access for you and your pup to explore miles of beach (public but almost always empty). There is a tetherball on site and numerous other dog toys available as well. Regarding the beach, there are approximately 50 steps which you will need to climb up and down to access the beach so please wear proper footwear. As this is on the Hood Canal and not a lake or a pond, tides impact the size of the beach. If you are hoping to walk endless miles of beach, the tide will need to be at 2ft or below. Anything under 4ft will give you a massive area (probably 1/2 mile or more) and almost guaranteed private area as only people with stairs can access the beach at this tide level. Though the beach is open at any point, I think the maximum height you would probably want to go is about 6.5ft. This still gives you and your dog a decent sized area to play in (approximately 500ft by 30ft or 1/2 acre). Photo 16 shows a shot of the beach at 6.25ft with a very large sandy area for you and your pup to play in. Anything above 6.5 ft is not recommended as the beach just gets thinner and thinner, but you're able to try if you want. (no refunds given if you don't like what you find). You are also responsible for checking out the tides before you go. Legally, I can't recommend any specific source for you to use, but you might find good information Googling "tide chart port ludlow". Regarding ADA Accessibility, my property is on a gently sloping hill. To access it, there are 2 very wide concrete steps to get to the grass. This would be doable for somene on crutches and probably ok for a regular wheelchair if you had a second person to help lower you to each step and pull you up. It's definitely not accessible to a motorized wheelchair. Sorry.
