Description

A large, fully fenced spot. The fence is 4 feet tall with space in between each fence board (as seen in the pictures.) Since this is a neighborhood area, we do ask that clients manage their dog if the dog is reacting at the fence. A longline is provided in the container near the hose to help manage any reactivity. Please do not allow your dog to run along the fence and react to anyone or dog passing by. There is usually parking on 57th and 28th street, each side of the fence has a gate to enter the yard. Chairs and a place cot are provided for your enjoyment. There are also tennis balls in the container by the hose, and a water bowl for your dog to drink from. A big yard perfect to work on recall with your dog, fence reactivity, or general obedience in a high distraction area. It's also a great spot to host playdates for your dog and their friends.

Additional rules

There are times where the hosts may need to enter/exit the yard during a clients visit. This will always be confirmed as soon as the host is aware of needing to move through the yard. The host will always check in first and message the client before entering or exiting the yard. Since the house is in the back of the yard, there are no other ways to enter/exit our home. We are currently working on setting up a fenced off area so there won't be any need to interact with guests or their dog during a visit. Please refrain from allowing your dog to dig holes in the yard, or go through the plants at the base of the lilac tree. A longline is provided to attach to your dogs harness/collar to help manage them if needed.

We loved this spot! It’s such a big beautiful yard, right in Ballard. There were some lovely amenities, like Adirondack chairs, balls, a raised bed and a long lead. The whole place is fenced in, and Frankie loved having a bit of space to stretch his legs and play safely. Will definitely be back.

Great yard n the city with plenty of space to play fetch. Our Golden Retriever had the best visit and gives it 5 stars!

We LOVED our time at this yard! This is the biggest yard I’ve ever found within city limits and we will absolutely be back for more fun! The space was clean and inviting. Fresh water available for your pup, and nice seating to relax in while your dog bounces around in the yard. The yard boarders the corner of a bustling residential neighborhood, so it’s a given that there will be dogs, people, and bikes going by on the street and sidewalk. The fence has spaces big enough for some ‘nose to nose’ contact with dogs walking by. If your dog has barrier reactivity to humans or animals, this may be a challenging Sniffspot for you, although it does make for a fantastic training opportunity!

Perfect amount of space for a dog to run around and play fetch! Lots of shade available to sit in and having water, poop bags, and toys available was a huge plus. Highly recommend.

It was a great spot and our pup loved playing. It was very clean and easy to come and go.

Perfect little spot for dogs to run around and a few shady areas to sit in the chairs really topped it off. Already can’t wait to take my Archie back!

Adam communicated beforehand and greeted us when we arrived. Great host! The yard was spacious and well-maintained. Our dogs had the best time!

Awesome Sniffspot! Nice gated yard with chairs to sit back and enjoy watching the dog play. They provide a box of dog toys. The water bowl was filled with clean water. There is a nice big tree to sit under the shade. Great owner! Obviously cares about dogs. Bonus - Adam is a dog trainer too.

If you have barky/reactive pups this might not be the best spot.(the fence is short, lots of visible dogs and people walking by) Other than that it’s a huge area and the dogs got lots of sniffs in!

Host replied: Thank you for the honest feedback Judy. I’ll review the profile for Archie’s Acres to make sure it reflects the type of experience guests can expect while they use the yard.

Pig Beach (near Port Ludlow)

A .63 acre dog sanctuary for you and your pup. The yard is well maintained with dog friendly grass and has incredible views of the Hood Canal and Puget Sound. If you're interested, there is private beach access for you and your pup to explore miles of beach (public but almost always empty). There is a tetherball on site and numerous other dog toys available as well. Regarding the beach, there are approximately 50 steps which you will need to climb up and down to access the beach so please wear proper footwear. As this is on the Hood Canal and not a lake or a pond, tides impact the size of the beach. If you are hoping to walk endless miles of beach, the tide will need to be at 2ft or below. Anything under 4ft will give you a massive area (probably 1/2 mile or more) and almost guaranteed private area as only people with stairs can access the beach at this tide level. Though the beach is open at any point, I think the maximum height you would probably want to go is about 6.5ft. This still gives you and your dog a decent sized area to play in (approximately 500ft by 30ft or 1/2 acre). Photo 16 shows a shot of the beach at 6.25ft with a very large sandy area for you and your pup to play in. Anything above 6.5 ft is not recommended as the beach just gets thinner and thinner, but you're able to try if you want. (no refunds given if you don't like what you find). You are also responsible for checking out the tides before you go. Legally, I can't recommend any specific source for you to use, but you might find good information Googling "tide chart port ludlow". Regarding ADA Accessibility, my property is on a gently sloping hill. To access it, there are 2 very wide concrete steps to get to the grass. This would be doable for somene on crutches and probably ok for a regular wheelchair if you had a second person to help lower you to each step and pull you up. It's definitely not accessible to a motorized wheelchair. Sorry.
