Location

Description

This is a huge pasture with sloped hills and a creek running through the bottom. Almost 5 acres of fenced pasture is used for horses and goats in the winter and hay in the summer. Grass will be long at times. The creek is shallow and lots to see and sniff! Tree covered places if you don’t want sun and many beautiful views for everyone to enjoy and play. The bugs are back so a headscreen or bug spray might make things more comfortable. The electric fence is NOT on. You may hear the fence across the road popping. If your dog is a chewing type please watch that they do not chew on the fence. It will break easily if they do.

Cleanliness

98% of guests said this spot was as clean as expected during their visit.

Hazards

A creek runs along the bottom of the entire field. The culvert is closed with metal panel.

Doggie paradise! Quiet, serene, and beautiful. A stream runs by the property for drinking and playing in. Lots of sticks and even a ball or two were found. It is a little hilly, but very manageable. Our dogs (and we) LOVED it!!

Rating 5 stars because this is a beautiful area and I'm grateful that it's made available to use. The fence has been extended past the creek since my last visit and my dogs LOVED being able to play in the water between their zoomies around the field. It's always very clean. My dogs are hard to entertain for a full hour, but they always use every second of the hour when we visit this spot. This is my favorite spot to take my dogs. I did have one issue yesterday that I feel other dog owners should be aware about since Sniffspot is commonly used by dog owners with dog reactive dogs: My dogs were running around having a blast when suddenly a white, medium sized, off leash dog comes running up the road and immediately instigates a fence fight with my dogs (the fence at this property runs along the no outlet road that leads to what I assume is the host's property). The dog's owners, an older couple, were far behind the dog and acted as if nothing as happening as my dogs and their dog fought at the fence. I requested THREE time for them to "please get their dog" and after ignoring me, they finally replied to me with "get my dog? And do what with it?" I replied with "put it on a leash. It's currently fighting with my dogs". The owner then brushed me off AGAIN and stated that he thought the dogs were "having fun". I quickly walked down to the front gate area to speak with the owners closer, and at this point the dogs were increasingly riled up. My dog was screaming trying to get to the other dog and I was worried the outside dog may try to get in the fence with how fixated he was on my dogs. I told the dog owners that "if they don't get their dog under control, I was going to get their dog under control because I can't let this go on any longer. My dogs are NOT having fun". The owners brushed me off yet again to which point I stated "you have one more chance before I get control of your dog". The owner chuckled at me and said "oh, I have one more chance, huh?". I was prepared with a leash and began walking to entrance gate as the dog's owners began yelling at the dog multiple times to "come" and the dog only listened after the fourth or fifth time they yelled at it. They never put it on a leash; instead, they gave me a nasty look as they walked back down the road with their off leash dog as if I had done something wrong and was unnecessarily rude. Sniffspot is used to avoid situations like this as much as possible. I know this likely isn't the hosts fault, but if this older couple frequents this road with their off leash dog, I worry that someone using this area with a severely dog reactive dog may end up in a situation where one of the dogs breaches the fence and then a nasty dog fight will ensue. Future users, be cautious of an older couple with a medium-sized, white dog that may walk the road. They are rude and have zero control of their dog. I will return with my dogs since, like I stated in the begging of this review, it's the nicest area to allow my dogs to run and play safely off leash and it truly is a privilege that the host allows dog owners to use their beautiful property; however, I will likely keep Pet Correct and an extra leash on me in the event that the off leash dog returns and starts another fight with my dogs.

Lovely spot! Cruise had a lovely time running around. Beautiful landscape and lots of room to run and sniff. It is very hard for me to keep my doggo entertained and he just had a blast!

Loved the experience. It’s such a beautiful farm on a mountain with so much space for the dogs to run around.

Our pups had so much fun getting to roam, sniff and explore. Quiet, beautiful area! Thanks for sharing your land with us!

Our youngest spunky Doberman found her way out as some of the mesh fencing is easy to put a nose under and then go. She was extremely motivated to leave the glorious running space by an adorable dog walking off leash with his owners along the road parallel to the stream fencing. Had the dog not been there to entice her for an out of the park rendezvous, she would have been happy to run the perimeter as she had for a full 20 minutes before the incident. Fortunately, she was polite to the dog and walkers and they were kind to her. She was recovered quickly and returned to the field to run a little more. The first time we came as guests of a family member a few weeks ago, we also brought our little chihuahua mix. He ran to the far end of the field and was not ready to stop so he did the nose tuck under the mesh fencing and got out twice. Despite this concern, we love this space and our dogs really enjoy the run and sniff opportunities provided. We just have to call them away from perimeters and be alert to other dogs walking who may be looking to aid and abet the delinquency of our sometimes unruly runner.

Tons of space for dogs to run full out. Fence appeared secure and no dangerous debris. Directions are detailed and easy to follow. We will make this a regular spot for us

A few Announcements: 1) 2/27- It came to my attention recently that in the back corner of the yard there is a small gap between my fence and the neighbor's fence where a dog could potentially get through. This came to my attention after a recent visitor was there with their dogs and my neighbor came out on their deck with their 2 smaller dogs and my visitor's dogs wanted to go after the neighbor's 2 smaller dogs. That was the 1st time I heard of this gap or anything like that happening, but I did see the gap that they were talking about, where it's possible their dogs could have gotten through if they weren't guarding their dogs from getting through. It will be a few days before I'll be able to address this as far as getting it fixed so in the meantime, this is a warning that there is a potential gap in this part of the fencing. (Bottom left corner.) **Book at your own risk.** I will update this once I've been able to secure this hole. Thank you for your patience. 2) There was a recent visitor who did not clean up after their dog. If I knew who it was, it would show up in my review of them. This is a reminder that you are expected to clean up after your dog. Thank you. Recommendations: I recommend that if you book an evening time, that you come prepared with a good flashlight, especially in the fall/winter when it's getting dark earlier, and check the time of sunset. Even with the lights on, it will be dark in most parts of the yard, and I can't guarantee the lights will be on for every evening visit. The space: A wide open space with rolling hills for your dogs to play, while you enjoy the view. *The sprinkler is actually a garden hose that is a "soaker" hose. It sprays water out of it like a sprinkler. There are plenty of sticks you can throw for the dog to fetch. The location is 5 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway, 5 minutes to Downtown Asheville, and close to the Folk Art Center. The newly renovated Haw Creek library and playground, Creekside Tavern, and High Five Coffee are just down the street. You can also walk to the Haw Creek Farmer's Market from here on Fridays, 3-6 pm. You can walk straight from to the Mountain to Sea trail from here without having to drive, and hike to Lunchbox rock (seen in pictures here.) I included the porch pictures so you could see the sunset. :) There is hand sanitizer, sunblock and bug spray under the stairs, under the side of the bottom step that you are welcome to use.
