Please read everything about this property before booking. There are detailed descriptions about what to expect. If you book this property it's assumed that you are comfortable navigating steep, rugged trails. And that you understand there is mud present. Sometimes very slippery mud if it has rained recently. Things to Know! Note: during spring and summer the bugs are out in full force! Consider wearing bug spray. I use the property to conduct group off leash hikes on most days in one hour blocks. Private solo hikers who rent the property are scheduled before and/or after my time. I have a certain amount of flexibility everyday but it's hard to reflect that on a calendar block so it's best to check in regarding what dates/time slots are actually available if you are looking for time slots Monday through Thursday. The property contains easy, moderate and intense hiking. The trails in and out of the property will get your heart pumping. Read: Steep. When any type of precipitation occurs it can be very slippery. Hiking boots (not hiking shoes or sneaker hybrids) with good treads and ankle support are crucial for stability in these spots. I do these hikes practically everyday for years now, so I'm used to the terrain and I still fall from time to time. Having said all that, the forest floor is pretty flat and a great place for a chuck-it, a ball and a dog that likes to go long! Again, make sure to wear good hiking boots and clothing that you don't mind getting dirty. I constantly have land management projects going on so you may encounter materials, brush piles or hand tools throughout the property. This place was virtually impenetrable when I took it over due to decades of wild overgrowth. I work on it one day at a time with the goal of developing a regional park like experience for people and dogs while trying not to overly disturb existing and hopefully future habitats of the animals that call this place home. There is a stream AND there WAS a mud pit. The mud pit has been converted into a forest pool swim hole. Be aware that there is still mud around this portion of the property due to the wetness of the area. Occasionally neighbors dogs (or chickens) are out and about around the perimeter of the property. The space is big enough to avoid their presence by sticking to the interior parts of the forest versus the fence line. In addition, please unload and load up promptly when you are arriving and leaving. Check the area around your car for any neighbor dogs before moving your dog from your car to the fenced pen (and back again). I've left an air horn on the fence next to the "Sniffspot Parking" sign. If anyone (dogs, chickens, deer etc.) show up - a blast or two usually sends them off. Even more occasionally, target practice with firearms can be heard from neighbors in the vicinity - typically not immediate neighbors. The land is wild and all types of wild animals may be present; typically they stay out of site but deer often access my property by jumping the fence. In addition - the trees can make noise while moving with the wind and drop branches or various other things in the process of movement. Wild vegetation is present as well including but not limited to poison ivy. Various other plants including mushrooms are also present and might be toxic if ingested or produce irritation if contact is made. Please be aware and mindful. Please be aware that yellow jackets may be around in the summer. Steer clear of them if you come across anything that looks like a nest; they will swarm and sting. In all the time I've been here, I've not noted the presence of venomous snakes - this does not mean they aren't present, however, I've only seen Garter and Black Rat snakes. During windy, wet weather a tree or tree limb can come down onto the fence; I typically repair/replace damaged sections same day or next day. Please be aware that if this occurs I may opt to reschedule your hike. Also, please be aware that I cannot monitor the fence constantly. While I check the fence almost daily - there is ALOT of fence containing the acreage - it's possible that a panel could have sustained damaged or even come down without my knowledge. This is a risk that is present hiking this property. Feel free to alert me to anything if you notice something - your feedback is valued and it helps me stay on top of things. Please keep your dog on leash until you are through the property gate and into the property.
