Welcome to Mel’s Backyard Dog Sanctuary—a peaceful, private backyard where dogs can stretch their legs, follow their noses, play and simply enjoy being dogs! This sanctuary was created with love in memory of my original “Fab Four”—Gizmo, Sassy, Caiomhe and Lil Red—and reflects my many years of hands-on experience caring for dogs and rescue animals. I understand that some dogs are nervous, reactive, newly rescued, easily overwhelmed or simply happier without unfamiliar dogs nearby. My goal is to provide a welcoming place where every dog can relax, explore and have fun at their own pace. The yard offers plenty of space for energetic play, leisurely sniffing, training or quality time with your best friend. Human guests can relax on the deck or use the available outdoor seating while their dogs enjoy the yard. There is also a play area for children who accompany their families; children must remain supervised throughout the visit. Fresh drinking water is provided in stainless-steel bowls, and guests have access to a hose for water play, rinsing muddy paws or giving their dog a refreshing bath. Complimentary dog shampoo, basic bathing supplies and clean towels are available for your convenience. You will also find complimentary dog toys and treats to make your visit extra special. Please check treat ingredients before offering them to dogs with allergies or dietary restrictions. Dogs live inside my home, but they will remain securely indoors and out of sight during reservations. Your family will have private use of the reserved backyard space during your scheduled visit. Although my dogs will not enter the yard, visiting dogs may occasionally hear or smell them inside the house. Whether your dog needs room to burn off energy, a private place to train, a peaceful outing away from other dogs or a good old-fashioned romp and splash, Mel’s Backyard Dog Sanctuary is ready to welcome you. Come make yourself comfortable and let your dog enjoy a safe, happy adventure where noses can wander and tails can wag!

Welcome! Our property’s back yard has a large lake, which acts as part of the “fencing”. Otherwise, it is fully fenced. So if your furbaby is a swimmer, they will LOVE it here! There is a ramp leading directly into the water near our dock. However if your fur baby loves to swim TOO much, and decides to exit the lake on the opposite side of our property or in a neighbor’s yard, then you may have to hop in your car and retrieve them around the block, but If they have good recall, awesome! Bring a picnic blanket and relax under a tree!! Lots of shade, several seating areas, and wildlife (ducks, geese, squirrels, raccoons) Do not let your dog harm any of the wildlife. If your dog is a “prey” dog and you fear it will chase and catch a duck, goose, raccoon, then this may not be the place for you. “Leave It” is one of the best learned commands a pooch can have! 😁Please note, the lower half our our property is gated, but you are welcome to roam back there with dog on leash, it is all fenced as well but just still be very mindful it is just a wired fence. Also the lower half of yard is hilly with some stumps/stones here and there, so use caution…roam at your own risk. 😊 During the winter, if the lake is freezing over or frozen, we will NOT allow bookings. However if you do book during a winter month, when the lake is questionable, you resume 100% responsibility for your pup and yourself. THE 2026 ADDED AMENINITY: Fishing is allowed! Have some fun too while your pup is having a good time! BRING YOUR OWN POLE AND BAIT. We throw our fish back, but if you catch a nice size catfish, you are welcome to keep. ONE PER VISIT THOUGH. Please be responsible with any hooks or bait. Please do not leave hooks or bait on property and avoid hooks getting left in trees and the lake. Water bowl, toys and poop bags available for your use while here. Please do clean up after your pooch/pooches. ENJOY!🐶😊💕

I’m the caretaker for the Fleur de Lys and live on the third floor with my son while the property is on the market. Hosting Sniffspot guests is a way for us to save toward our next move when it sells, and honestly, it’s a joy. Dog people are my favorite people. I haven’t had a dog of my own since mine passed from cancer five years ago. Losing him was hard, and I haven’t been in a season of life where I could give a dog the kind of dedication they deserve. So getting to spend time around other people’s pups, even briefly, means a lot. Bonus: licensed massage for your dog (and you!) I’m also a licensed massage therapist, and I offer massage for dogs as an add-on. Honestly, I love working on pups even more than I do humans, whether it’s an older dog with stiff joints, a working dog who needs to decompress, or just a goodboy who deserves to be pampered.
