Large Private Fully-Fenced Yard – Shaded, Skyline Views (Oakhurst/Cotswold)

Fully Fenced
0.5 acres

Large private backyard in 28205 — a spacious in-city yard with mature oak trees providing shade across nearly half the property and open skyline views of downtown Charlotte. With no homes behind the property and one neighboring house currently unoccupied, the yard feels surprisingly open and private despite being close to the city. Ideal for: • Dogs that need room to sprint • Owners looking for private off-leash space • Apartment or small-yard dogs needing extra room Features: • 6’ privacy fencing around the majority of the yard • 4’ fence section along the driveway (not recommended for known escape artists or high jumpers) • Flat, well-maintained grass • Large shaded areas from mature oak trees • No rear neighbors + skyline view • Simple, low-touch access Please Note: • Property is located near an active rail line. Trains pass intermittently every few hours and the whistle can be loud. Most dogs are unbothered, but noise-sensitive dogs may want to consider before booking. • Property includes a rope swing. Use at your own risk. • Dogs must be supervised at all times and waste must be removed. • Please ensure the gate is securely closed when entering and exiting. Spacious. Private. In the city.

Fully Fenced Shaded Yard | Private Space for Off-Leash Play

Fully Fenced
0.25 acres

Fully fenced, private backyard (about 0.25 acre) with lots of shade for off-leash time. Great for dogs who need space away from busy parks, crowds, or overstimulation. Ideal for sniffing, exploring, playing, or relaxed training sessions. ‼️ ‼️ Important to note: there is a neighboring dog behind the back fence that may be outside at times and can occasionally be seen or heard. My dog loves running the fence line with my neighbors dog. It is double fenced (I have a fence and my neighbor has a fence so the dogs can’t touch each other) There’s a seating area with table, chairs, and umbrella so you can relax while your dog enjoys the yard. ✔ Fully fenced yard ✔ Tons of shade throughout the day ✔ Quiet, low-traffic area ✔ Seating with umbrella ✔ Poop bags provided ✔ Power outlet access ✔ Water bowl provided + hose access ‼️ ‼️ Important to note: there is a neighboring dog behind the back fence that may be outside at times and can occasionally be seen or heard. My dog loves running the fence line with my neighbors dog. It is double fenced (I have a fence and my neighbor has a fence so the dogs can’t touch each other) Perfect for dogs who don’t enjoy dog parks or need a more private space.

Dog Paradise in Northwest Charlotte

Fully Fenced
2 acres

**The pool is open for the season!** Welcome! We have a fun property your dogs will love! We have a 2 acre property, which includes approximately a half acre fenced area, a 1 acre unfenced area, and a separately fenced inground pool area. Only dogs are allowed in the swimming pool (unless you're actively helping or playing with them). Two creeks outline our property and dogs are welcome anywhere on the property. We tend to keep the grass in the back of the property a bit longer to support the bees, but it also makes for lots more sniffing for the pups! If you're using the unfenced portion of the yard, dogs must be on leash. We have dogs of our own, but we will keep them secure in the house when you're using the property so you'll have the whole yard and pool to yourself. Please see the amenities and access instructions portions of our profile for more information! We bought our property specifically for our own dogs to enjoy, so we know yours will love it too. We look forward to having you!

The Long and Short of it Park

Fully Fenced
0.06 acres

We have a large backyard that is fully fenced. Most of the fence is six foot or taller privacy fence, with four foot fencing along the driveway. There is plenty of space for dogs to run and play plus shade and outdoor seating if you want to take a break. There is water outside too. Please pick up after your dogs and just drop any waste in the small trash can by the back of the garage. There is space under the storage shed where smaller dogs can go underneath. It’s fine there’s nothing under there but some leaves and such and we will close that area off soon. Come enjoy the backyard! We are sure our dogs look forward to all the new smells from visitors too!

Your Complete Guide to Dog Parks in Charlotte

Pulled into the Frazier Park off-leash area on a Sunday afternoon and couldn't even find parking? Or watched your dog turn into a mud monster at Ray's Fetching Meadow after one of Charlotte's famous afternoon thunderstorms? Charlotte, NC is booming, the dog population is exploding right along with it, and the off-leash dog parks infrastructure is struggling to keep up. Between the humidity that makes summer walks miserable and the crowds at every decent public spot, exercising your dog shouldn't feel this complicated.

Charlotte's got public options scattered around like Frazier Park, Ray's Fetching Meadow, McAlpine Creek Park, Reedy Creek Park, Renaissance Park, and Shuffletown Park, but they all share the same issues. Overcrowding, inconsistent maintenance, and plenty of codes and signs reminding you about vaccination requirements, collars and tags, and current tag information. Even popular spots like Swaney Pointe K-9 Park, Ramsey Creek Park, and the commercial Skiptown Dog Bar & Park get packed. Dog owners across South End, NoDa, Plaza Midwood, and throughout Mecklenburg County are ditching the public park lottery for private Sniffspot bookings. Fully fenced yards where your dog isn't one of fifty trying to share the same fenced-in areas. No dog bite incidents with strangers' dogs, no fighting for a shady spot, just dependable access.

Why Charlotte Dog Owners Love Private Dog Parks

Here's what public off-leash areas can't always guarantee. Dog still working on coming when called? Solid fenced-in land means they're secure instead of potentially running toward Sharon Road. It's July and the heat index is pushing 100? You need water stations and actual shade trees, not asphalt and direct sun. Dog doesn't handle large dogs well or gets anxious in chaotic play areas? Private yards eliminate those variables completely.

Charlotte, NC Sniffspot hosts get what dogs need in the Queen City. Properties with pools and water features for brutal summer days, covered areas for the random thunderstorms that roll through, agility equipment for breeds that need jobs to do. Nobody's verifying if other dogs are spayed or neutered. No exposure risks to communicable diseases in overcrowded spaces. Training sessions with food or treats? Way more effective without twenty distractions in shared play areas.

What Your Charlotte Dog Actually Needs

Charlotte dogs need better than the typical off-leash dog parks experience. Fully fenced yards that are actually maintained, not just chain link with gaps. Water stations that work year-round, especially during humid summers. Reliable dog defecation cleanup with bag stations and waste stations, not overflowing trash cans you find at public walking areas. Space that matches your dog's energy and temperament instead of one-size-fits-all chaos. And honestly? They need fenced-in areas that feel secure, not spots where you're constantly scanning for escape routes.

Where to Find Dog Parks in Charlotte

With nearly 600 Sniffspots across the Charlotte metro, there's coverage everywhere. South End, Dilworth, Myers Park, NoDa, Plaza Midwood, University City, Ballantyne, SouthPark, Uptown. Matthews, Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson, Concord, Indian Trail, Waxhaw, Fort Mill. Even Lake Norman and Belmont areas have multiple options.

Filter for dog fields if your dog's a runner, water features for cooling off, smaller secure spaces for anxious pups.

Pro Tips for Charlotte Dog Park Visits

Book early morning or evening from May through September because midday heat is rough. Bring more water than you think necessary (humidity dehydrates dogs faster), poop bags for dog defecation cleanup at waste stations or bag stations provided by hosts, and towels if afternoon storms are forecast. Spring and fall are perfect for longer sessions. Food or treats for training? Pack them, and use that private time effectively.

What sets Sniffspot apart: your time slot is exclusively yours. No off-leash dogs appearing while owners are on their phones. No navigating social dynamics with random people and their pets at crowded walking areas or near the fishing pier at parks like McAlpine Creek. No wondering if that spot will even be available when you drive across town. Just secure, fenced-in land that works around your schedule. Browse the hundreds of Charlotte options above and book your new regular spot.

Charlotte Dog Parks Tips from Dog Owners and Walkers

Barkingham Park at Reedy Creek in Charlotte, a public dog park. Open daily, dawn to dusk.

Charlotte locals have learned a few things from navigating the city's parks across seasons and neighborhoods. Here's the inside track.

Charlotte Dog Parks Advice 1: Head to Davie or Barkingham on a weekday if you can

Weekend afternoons at both parks draw real crowds, and parking at Barkingham in particular fills faster than most people expect. The parks handle the volume reasonably well, but if your dog is reactive or still getting comfortable with other dogs, a Tuesday morning at 8 am is a completely different experience. The weekday regulars tend to be a reliable, thoughtful bunch, and you'll get far more of the park to yourselves.

Charlotte Dog Parks Advice 2: Charlotte summers deserve genuine respect

The heat and humidity catch transplants off guard every year. Dogs overheat faster than most owners realize, and the grass at busy parks holds heat long after the sun drops. Summer visits work best before 9 am or after 7 pm. On the days the parks just aren't manageable between the heat and the crowds, a private Sniffspot space with shade or a pool makes for a much better afternoon than grinding through an uncomfortable public park visit.

Charlotte Dog Parks Advice 3: Match the park to your neighborhood before building a routine

Charlotte is spread out and traffic between neighborhoods adds up. Whitewater is out west, Davie is south, Barkingham is central. Building your routine around the most famous park when there's a great option ten minutes from your house is a common mistake worth avoiding. A park you can realistically get to four times a week beats the best park in the city that you visit twice a month.

Popular Charlotte Public and Private Dog Parks

Charlotte's dog park scene has grown significantly alongside the city itself, and the options are now genuinely diverse across neighborhoods. A handful of spots have earned serious local loyalty. Some of the best-known Charlotte public dog parks are:

Davie Dog Park

Open daily, dawn to dusk. The largest dog park in Charlotte at five acres of fenced off-leash space, split into three separate play areas including a dedicated small dog section. The size means even busy weekend mornings feel manageable, and the layout gives dogs room to spread out rather than cluster. A consistent first recommendation from locals for a reason.

Barkingham Park at Reedy Creek

Open daily, dawn to dusk. Four acres of fully fenced land within Reedy Creek Nature Center, with a natural setting that gives it a more relaxed, wooded feel than most urban dog parks. Separate areas for large and small dogs, water stations, and swimming pools in warm weather. The combination of good amenities and a nature park backdrop makes this one genuinely special.

Whitewater Off Leash

Open daily. Seventy acres of the U.S. National Whitewater Center's 1,300-acre property fenced off exclusively for off-leash dogs, with three ponds, 2.5 miles of trail, beach access, and a dog wash station. Less a traditional dog park and more an off-leash adventure. For dogs who want terrain, swimming, and serious exploration over a standard fenced yard, nothing else in the Charlotte area comes close.

Why choose a private dog park in Charlotte over a public one?

Charlotte has grown fast and the demand for dog park space has grown with it. Davie and Barkingham are both excellent, but they serve a large and enthusiastic pet-owning population, and good-weather weekends can feel very full, very quickly. For dogs who are reactive, nervous around strangers, or working through a training program, that unpredictability makes consistent progress difficult. A private booking removes the element of surprise entirely.

Charlotte's Sniffspot hosts offer a range of spaces the public parks can't match: private yards in neighborhoods across the metro, fields with room to actually run, and properties with water access that feel less like a facility and more like a proper outing. If a newly adopted rescue needs a low-pressure introduction to off-leash time, or your dog simply does better when the social variables are controlled, private rentals are worth building into your routine.

Frequently asked questions about Charlotte dog parks

What amenities do private dog parks in Charlotte offer that public parks don't?

Charlotte private dog parks offer amenities you'll never find at public facilities: swimming pools for water-loving dogs, agility equipment for training, climate-controlled indoor spaces for year-round use, hiking trails on private property, and secure fencing customized for different dog sizes. Hosts provide poop bags, water stations, toys, and even dog wash stations. Dog Paradise in Northwest Charlotte is especially known for exceptional amenities. Every Charlotte listing shows exactly what's included—no surprises.

Are there fully fenced private dog parks in Charlotte?

Yes! Most of Charlotte's 679 Sniffspot locations are fully fenced. Use the "fully fenced" filter to find secure enclosures with detailed fencing specs: height (4ft, 6ft, 8ft+), material (wood, chain-link, vinyl), and gap information. This is crucial for escape artists, puppies learning boundaries, or reactive dogs who need contained space. Charlotte listings show fencing photos so you can verify security before booking.

How clean are private dog parks in Charlotte compared to public ones?

Significantly cleaner. Public dog parks in Charlotte are maintained by overworked city staff and often littered with waste from dozens of dogs daily. Sniffspot hosts in Charlotte maintain their own spaces and take pride in cleanliness since it directly affects their reviews and bookings. Many Charlotte hosts provide fresh poop bags, empty trash regularly, and sanitize water stations. Plus, with only one booking at a time, waste accumulation is minimal. Check reviews to see cleanliness ratings.

What types of dog parks can I find in Charlotte?

Charlotte has 679 diverse options: fully fenced dog parks for specific training activities, small dog parks for different environments, and dog fields for varied experiences. Want a backyard for simple off-leash time? We've got it. Need acres of trails for hiking? Check. Looking for water access or agility obstacles? Available. Can I book Charlotte dog parks on short notice?

Usually yes! Many Charlotte Sniffspot locations offer same-day or next-day availability, and most bookings can be made instantly without waiting for host approval. Unlike public dog parks that might be crowded during peak times, Charlotte private parks let you reserve exactly when you need them—early morning before work, midday breaks, or evening exercise. Check individual listings for real-time availability and booking policies.

Do Charlotte dog parks have water access?

Many do! Filter Charlotte's 679 locations by amenities to find dog parks with swimming pools, natural ponds, creeks, or beach access. Water features are perfect for Charlotte's hot summer days or for dogs who love to swim. Each listing specifies water type and depth, plus whether it's safe for swimming or just wading. Some Charlotte hosts provide life vests or shallow kiddie pools for water-nervous dogs.

Are there indoor dog parks in Charlotte?

Yes! Charlotte has climate-controlled indoor options perfect for extreme weather, rainy days, or year-round exercise. Indoor Charlotte locations typically feature rubberized flooring (easier on joints), artificial turf, or padded surfaces. They're especially popular for puppy training, senior dogs needing gentle surfaces, or reactive dogs benefiting from enclosed environments. Filter by "indoor" to see Charlotte's covered and climate-controlled options.
