55My pup is a intelligent and feisty cattle dog who lives smack dab in urban Sac where he gets to watch 18-wheelers and cars and City trash trucks whiz by 24/7. Fortunately, with Sniffspots like this one, we can have enchanting mini-getaways!! This place is located where the City of Elk Grove peters out and the rural ranchettes lining Cosumnes River and its watershed spread out along the valley floor. The pup and I explored the pond on the property and then took a walk in the neighborhood. There were herons calling and rabbits peeping at us and squirrels playing and local residents out for a stroll. Given it was overstimulating for my dog, I used it as an opportunity to re-inculcate basic obedience and commands. One family was whizzing by on an ATV with their dog off-leash so I ducked behind a cedar tree and held my pup in a hold until they whizzed by safely; I don’t take chances on safety by allowing my dog to engage with other people’s dogs off-leash. Once back by the pond, pup waded into the water and I opened my picnic up. There were comfy chairs and all the accoutrements there to make it feel welcoming. After leaving, I discovered the teeny hamlet of Sheldon is a mile or so further down Grant Line Road so if you want a bite to eat, gas, or to taste some wine 🍷, check it out. Given that it was time for dessert-for-breakfast, I decided to have a banana split 🍌🍨 at Bert’s Diner and the locals were jovial enough to not spank me. 😆

55This was our first SniffSpot experience and it couldn’t have been better! My three fur babies, 2 are 46 lbs and 1 is 15 lbs, absolutely loved this beautiful spot! The humans appreciated the lovely pond and landscape. There were toys and lots of towels if your doggies take a dip like ours did. Cool water for the dogs to drink and nice seating for the humans. Will definitely come back!

55Had a blast with my two dogs this morning at this Sniffspot!!! It was so nice to be able to let them run around leash free without any other dogs around. Unfortunately, they didn’t get into the pond as it was the first time around water like that. Maybe next time 😊 Host was very helpful and responded right away! Will definitely be coming back!

“As with all rural areas, Wildlife exists. We have turtles, fish, turkeys, rabbits (hidden during the day) squirrels, snakes, skunks raccoon’s etc at times feral cats. It’s very random. We also have deer depending on the day & ducks.”

“FYI: Property is under video surveillance. It’s also posted on the property that cameras are around the premises. Leave things as you find them: if you use the umbrella, I asked for you to please return it in an upright position. In the past wind has caused it to fly into the pond. Kayaks; a past guest, felt it OK to pull them out of the water and drag them across the rocks. This causes damage. Please leave the kayaks in the water. Boundaries; as it’s posted on the site, Sniffspot area is everything in front of the housing structure and the orange cones.
