Joy Ridge Sanctuary with over 2 Acres of Redwoods and Gardens

Welcome to our private oasis (we will not be home when you visit!) with over 2 fully fenced acres of redwoods and gardens in Occidental with a park-like setting. Dogs and their families can journey the meandering paths and trails to explore gardens, redwoods, seasonal fruit trees (you are welcome to try it) and endless relaxing areas with hammocks, benches, tables/chairs and even a covered outdoor bed. There is an indoor rustic lounge with sofa and table/chairs where we provide complimentary coffee/tea, water and treats for humans and dogs, dog toys/wipes/towels/blankets/waste bags, disposable rain ponchos for people and a covered outdoor patio with a sitting area to enjoy the redwoods. The bathroom is accessible from the main deck and has a sign on the door. Our redwoods sanctuary is perfect for celebrations, gatherings and private recharging in nature for dogs and their families. Only 15 min drive to dog friendly beaches, 10 min to 'Grove of Old Trees' (dog friendly) and to downtown in Occidental which is known for its shops, galleries and a famous dog friendly Howard Station Cafe. It's also an 8 min drive to 'St. Teresa of Avila Church' in Bodega where Alfred Hitchcock's film 'The Birds' was filmed. If you are visiting with little humans, please enjoy our outdoor toddler playground, swing set, an outdoor mud kitchen with kids' picnic table and a large sandbox with toys. There are also toys and books for kids in the lounge (under the coffee/tea bar table). If you have any questions, please reach out anytime so we can make your visit a wonderful experience! NOTE: If you see a block on the calendar and it's the only time you can visit, please feel free to reach out as we can move the blocks around on some days. HOT WEATHER INFORMATION Our sanctuary is high up along the forested ridge, which exposes it to fog and cooler offshore breezes. You can visit anytime of the day - the property is over 80% shaded and much cooler in hot weather due to a heavy redwood canopy that serves as a natural air conditioner. The temperature is 6-10F lower (depending on the fog and time of the day) than the weather forecast for Occidental. We also added a 'Splash Zone' under a 1000+ year old redwood tree for pups to enjoy.

Open 6am -8pm with 5ft no climb fencing. Great place to let your dog run safely. Bring and enjoy the porch swing in our new “Dog House” while your dog enjoys the park! Monty's Playground

We have approximately 0.30 acres of fenced yard with several locations of seating for the humans, 3 water stations for the pups & a hose for more water when needed. We also provide dog bags, garbage, several balls, a throwing arm to play fetch, several toys, a kiddie pool for pups to cool off, and an agility course. Don't forget to check out the treats on the table. There is always atreat bag for each pup to enjoy. Explore the trees area high up on the hill. Bring a friend and play pingpong or monkey around on the zip line or the play structure! In fall and winter, enjoy the green grasses and seasonal creek! The hill up to the top is steep and uneven, please exercise caution!

Sniff and Splash

We offer a fully fenced space for your dog to run, play, or swim. Towel, toys and water are available. The doggie parents can enjoy a putting green while the dogs play. Feel free to join your dog for a swim on these hot days.
