Description

My husband and I are dog and animal lovers. We want to provide people who are in similar situations to us a few years ago (before we purchased our home) a place for their puppers to run free. Fully Fenced! Parking along the yard in the alley. Pictures of your pup adventures are encouraged! *there is a spigot on the back of the house at the bottom of the stairs to fill the water bowl if it happens to be empty. Hi! Great WS location. Just what we needed without driving to far. Bring water for your pup. The hose is off for the cold weather.

Been to many many sniff spots and my dogs love this place more than any other spot. They don't need fancy running equipment. They need a yard!

  • Nick H., Dec 31, 2023

I've always felt most dogs want exactly one thing: a big area to zoom in, but that's hard to come by in the middle of a city. This place is exactly that, and my dogs love it. It's big enough for them to run but still small enough to keep an eye on them at all times. It's the simple, back yard play experience my dogs deserve, and we'll keep coming back as often as we can!

The perfect pup playground! The retaining wall makes for good games of dog racquetball and loved the extra balls available for play. Had a reservation at sunset at the string lights made it nice and bright. Will definitely be visiting again (highly recommend parking in the alley behind the house)!

This backyard is big and an amazing space for pups to run around in!

My husband and I are dog and animal lovers. We want to provide people who are in similar situations to us a few years ago (before we purchased our home) a place for their puppers to run free. We have a 4 year old Shih Tzu named Tater Tot who loves to get his zoomies out in the yard and we hope your dog will too!

A world-class Pacific Northwest natural rainforest adventure awaits you and your best friends on 65-year-old trails, through 2 acres of trails, forest, and open areas for ball throwing. 8 or 9 terraces. Starting with your choice of 2 entrance paths on the far right and left over a bluff that winds around, to The Landing Pad, through other trails forming circles to run around on and play. At the very bottom, the trails lead to a creek, on the left. The property is partially fenced and has natural obstacles. It is bounded by a fence at the top, a fence on one L-shaped side, and a cliff to the creek on the other. The steep hill above the creek and dense brush provide a natural boundary, except for the most adventuresome dogs and their physically fit friends. Bring more than one dog, if possible, because they love to chase each other around the circles. This forest was clear-cut between 65 to 100 years ago and not replanted. So we replanted it with 600+ trees. The ground is wood chips, sand, and Pacific Northwest duff with 160ft tall Hemlock, Douglas Fir, Alder, Big Leaf Maple trees, ferns, and native bushes with views of a 20-acre privately owned forested wetland. We prepared it as a Sniffspot for dogs. The lower part that connects to the creek area is not fenced. Rarely seen are animals in the forest, occasional wild rabbits, moles, squirrels, mountain beavers, mice, raccoons, shrews, voles, and weasels. Many birds may be seen such as starlings, chickadees, woodpeckers, hawks, and American Bald Eagles. There are moles thus mole holes because it is a delightfully rugged private area so you must be careful where you step until you get used to the signs of moles and Mountain beaver underground trails crossing the paths. Especially along Secret Lane, Lover's Lane, and Hidden Lane. We spent 4+ years removing invasive bushes, cutting down dead trees, and creating places for you to pause, sit, and enjoy your dogs in this natural rainforest 1 mile from the South Sound. When you park you can close the entry gate at the top. Garbage is available on the way out under the Bigleaf Maple tree at the driveway in the large green bin marked "Garbage". The Southeast corner of this Sniffspot where the creek is down a steep embankment, also is part of the property, but descending the steep area is not advisable unless you are fit and feel capable of the climb down and up. We feel a lot of delight here. We welcome you to enjoy it! We continue to work with Mayor Jim Ferrell and his Code Compliance team on the problem regarding the trash strewn on the owner/developer's land comprising most of Lakota Creek Basin. The landowner has set the clean-up start date the week of February 19, 2024. 9The developer has a land plat proposal and variance before the city, so cleaning shows good intent even if it took 8 years.) Hope you can visit and enjoy it soon! 2 Starbucks less than 5 minutes away in either direction (bathrooms available there). If your dog is reactive and you want to, you may wish keep your pup leashed until you are safely at the top of the path. When departing, on either side of the trails, at the top you can pause to leash your dog if you wish. The Sniffspot trails do not interact with the house area.

*12/5/23* There is a LARGE amount of standing water (small lake) and puddles in the spot due to current flooding conditions. *fall/winter update* We have mud, please consider bringing a towel for your pup(s). During the month of October we host a pumpkin patch every weekend and must close the Sniffspot for everyone’s safety. If you are a member please contact us if you aren’t available during the week to use your time. Well socialized pups are always welcome at the patch. 🎃 We have various levels of flooding during the winter; the spot has is anticipated to have mud and large puddles. At times we may need to close the spot due to excessive flooding (no dry land!). Please reach out if you have questions about how much water is in the spot. Keep in mind we also have increased migratory waterfowl in the pasture adjacent. We have new neighbors at the west end of the pasture. Please be aware there may be construction during your visit, we apologize for any inconvenience. 1 acre of flat field in a beautiful setting. One large tree in the corner. Fully fenced approx 4.5’ with predator fencing (a very small dog may be able to get out). We have motion lights that come on at night, not super bright but makes the spot visible during early night winters. Boarded by two, large pastures, a private road with limited use and our barn. Occasionally during the wet months flocks of geese/ducks may land in the wetlands adjacent. We have goats and chickens but they are on the other side of the property and should not be seen/heard. We have a dog ‘Veles’ that will be on the other side of the property or in the house. There is a covered bench and trash can in the spot, fresh water is also available. An outdoor bathroom is available for use, see map. When using the bathroom please keep your pup in your car as it is near our goats and free range chickens. We look forward to hosting you and your pup! Please reach out if you have questions. -Jenn & Drew
