HOST REPORTS

Sometimes

Like all neighborhoods in Washington State, you may hear dogs barking at a distance. Neighbors have dogs that you might be able to hear or see from a distance because this hilly land overlooks 20 acres of forest and wetlands. Our senior disabled rescue dog is dog-friendly, she stays inside during visits. You may hear a small bark from inside our lodge. If you arrive early you might see us with our dog in the front yard from the 200ft driveway as we scamper inside, Guests can make many special arrangements by request, just please reach out.

HOST REPORTS

Sometimes

In the summertime, there may be the sounds of happy kids playing or visible in the neighboring yards at a distance. "Unexpected Encounters with Dogs/People" reports are sent directly to the host. You might see neighbors in their houses or working on their yards like any neighborhood. A city utility road, not on our property, runs alongside the creek from the main highway about 100ft away from our creek area. It is not easily visible from our property. However, it is possible to walk through the forest from the utility road to the creek and vice versa because there is no fence. The bowl like shape of the creek and the fun creek itself is what keeps dogs engaged along this unfenced area of our Spot. Fences and gates surround our upper yard near the lodge for safety. Our lodge's fenced area is not part of the Sniffspot.

Our 200 ft long private driveway is a straight shot to the parking lot, there are signs indicating places to park. Close the 16ft wide gate at the entrance if you wish. Please close all gates you open, except when you leave the front Entrance gate that you drive your vehicle through —please leave it open for the next guest when you depart. Please park near the parking signs or pretty much anywhere available. If you see a pile of wood chips, they are regularly used to maintain the Sniffspot and will be used to cover trails for softness.

Description

Enjoy an enchanting Pacific Northwest rainforest adventure at Wonderlane World Famous Sniffspot for Dogs and Their Best Friends - Bring your friends and their dogs too! Unleash your dogs and frolic with your beloved friends in the lush embrace of our hilly Pacific Northwest natural rainforest. Wonderlane invites you and your best pals to explore 67 years of history across 2 acres of established trails, over 9 terraces, under towering old-growth trees, listening to the gentle murmur of a clear creek, accessible by your choice of 2 gates. For security at arrival we require the Entrance Gate to be closed behind you. From the parking area choose your path— the left or right trailhead gates —and meander down Flying Horse Lane or Tail Waggin' Lane to The Landing Pad, where trails weave into playful circles perfect for a game of ‘Hide and Go Seek’ or a chase! At the forest edge, Madhatter Lane invites you to a serene creek, a secret haven at our fully fenced sanctuary. For environmental reasons, the creek area is not fenced, therefore bring a leash for your dog(s) when going into that area. Our hilly forested land, a tapestry of guardrails, fences, gates, natural barriers, rolling trails, springs and creeks, sometimes steep, sometimes flat, is a haven for play. There is a 100-foot-long Stick Library! These trails, originally created for horses, have been lovingly reclaimed from invasive brush and dead trees, now fun for paws and feet alike. We’ve ensured the future of this tranquil forest by planting more than 600 local tree saplings. The canopy of Hemlock, Douglas Fir, Western Red Cedar, Yew, BigLeaf Maple, and Alder, filled out as soon as there was more light. These trails whisper stories of the past. In the spring flowering bushes bloom from March through early June, in the summer lush frilly leaves decorate every breeze with greenery in motion, and in the fall in October the leaves magically turn yellow, orange, red, brown, and purple. Wonderlane is more than a place; it’s an experience—a Sniffspot designed with your dog’s joy in mind. While they dash through wood chips and Pacific Northwest duff, under ferns, and around bends, you’ll enjoy the views of a 20-acre forested wetland, a living vista of nature, and plenty of chairs to sit in. This forest is alive with the songs of songbirds - sparrows, finches, thrushes, grosbeaks, and a host of other birds, such as majestic American Bald Eagles are seen here. Walk, run, or pause on our soft wide well-drained sand or woodchip paths and let the forest’s secrets reveal themselves uniquely to you. We’ve spent more than six years crafting this haven, just a mile from the South Sound, for you and your friends to run, walk, sit, and revel in the company of your pups. And when the day’s adventures are done, two Starbucks await to refresh you, 3 minutes and 5 minutes away - remember puppercinos/pup cups are free. Join our community on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61556216197208 or Bluesky https://bsky.app/profile/wonderlane.bsky.social or by searching for “Wonderlane World Famous Sniffspot,” or ask a warm and friendly nearby AI to direct your browser to us, to see tails of joy. Wonderlane walks in the woods where nature’s heart beats, inviting you to breathe in the peaceful air, one paw print at a time! If your dog ever hesitates to leave, a ring of the Magic Chuck Waggin’ Triangle will bring them running back. Reminder in summer, or if visiting around twilight bring repellent or wear it when you drop into the forest, and if you choose, onto the creek area. (There are no fish in the creek because it is spring fed.) This Spot is best for physically fit individuals, but although we are disabled we enjoy it whenever there's time. If you need assistance or more info, please contact us directly. Keeping Wonderlane pristine is a collective effort, and we value your help in maintaining the beauty of our shared space! We can't do this without your help. Please use the usual household garbage bin marked 'Garbage' at the driveway entrance for disposal of poo bags. Please close water hydrants completely. Press the hydrant water handle all the way down into the completely closed position after use. If the water is not pressed completely closed, water continues to leak out the bottom of the hydrant unseen. Please close each gate. Dogs must be leashed going to and coming from the parking area, and may be unleashed when entering the dog park. We rely upon guests to contact us and tell us immediately if they need anything. To be fully fenced please roll shut the main gate after you park. There are also 2 sets of gates at the top of each trail to the Sniffspot. The forest area is fully fenced, some doubled. There are 2 gates that lead to the creek so you can control access. Please roll the Entrance gate into the OPEN and securely hooked position when you leave, thank you! Enjoy the forest’s magic at Wonderlane. Join us at Bluesky https://bsky.app/profile/wonderlane.bsky.social or Facebook https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61556216197208 --------------------------------------- Thank you to the many regulars, Sniffpass holders, and new guests who clean up after their dogs so very well! Proud of our community! Thank you for closing hydrants all the way so they do not leak out the bottom and cost us all money! PS some guests want the creek fenced too, which isn't possible due to environmental reasons. Otherwise please bring a leash to explore in that area. *********************************** Created in memory of Rosie Lane, beloved dog. *********************************** If Wonderlane Sniffspot is booked you might LOVE our sister Sniffspot site in the forest right outside Redmond, Washington - Magical Mossy Forest - 5 acres of trails and winter creek. https://www.sniffspot.com/listings/redmond-wa/magical-mossy-forest-69904

Hazards

HOST NOTE

This Spot is a real Pacific Northwest Rainforest. It rains here frequently. Watch your footing - trails are not even, there are hills, sticks, and pebbles, the occasional tree root on the paths. The trees have branches that may fall in the wind. Some ferns brush up against your legs along the trails. You might have a pant leg grabbed by a branch. Dogs dig holes, please fill them! In the summer, we have an indigenous leafy green plant growing here called "stinging nettles"! If you grasp will hurt like little needles. It fades away generally without a problem, but it can hurt! In European countries folks use stinging nettles to make a sauna or bath even more refreshing as they vigorously strike their skin with bunches of nettles. I grew up drinking nettle soup. There is no poison ivy or poison oak on this property. In the summer there are harmless small green garden snakes that like to sun themselves. During the day you are unlikely to see a raccoon, opossum, skunk, weasel, mouse, squirrel, fox, rabbit which are local to this region. We have never seen a deer, fox, or opossum. Loads of birds. For safety, we request that all children and dogs be accompanied when near or in the creek. The creek ranges from 2 inches to about 5 inches deep in the summer, and up to 9 inches deep in the winter. Please review "how to keep your dog safe around water" Sniffspot guidelines for visiting spots with water. Boots or shoes with sturdy treads are recommended, as are towels for doggies feeties. Please police poo. If you see anything and don't want to collect it, please text us and we'll take care of it. It's a big area and sometimes things slip by the most ardent collector! :-) The garbage bin is located at the entrance to the property near the cul-de-sac. PS - If your dog doesn't want to leave, contact me and I'll ring the Magic Chuck Waggin' Triangle, No worries! The signs at the gates leading to the creek area indicate the creek is not fenced. It is protected by natural bowl-shaped features of the landscape, but it is not part of the fully fenced area. In the summer heat, as suggested by a guest, bring bug repellent, or wear it when you drop into the forest, and if you wish, beyond the gates onto the creek area. We provide bug repellent at the glass desk next to the red front door of the dwelling. Please close the main driveway Entrance Gate after you arrive and leave it open as you depart. All other gates are to be closed and latched please. If you know your dog is reactive, aggressive*, prone to escape, please use the chain in the parking area pedestrian gates to reinforce the latch. A few seconds to secure it. If you have questions, please feel free to text Linda with any and all questions. Note: dogs with a bite history or violent behaviors are not permitted here, or at Sniffspots. It is not worth the off leash risk.

I've lived in great places from Coldfoot, Fairbanks, Homer, Sunrise Island, and Anchorage, Alaska to Boudha, Kathmandu, Nepal to Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta, and Mazatlan, Mexico. My place now is my favorite location I've ever lived in so I thought I'd share it with you! I'm Linda, and I love creatures, especially doggies! My first word was “whuppie” because I couldn’t pronounce “puppy”! Born in Seattle, raised 4th generation Alaskan, from a long-time West Coast family. We are informal here, more friendly, we believe in giving guests privacy. My first dog I captured in the wild with her mom and 3 siblings, rescued them, got them medical care and food, found them all homes, and brought her to Seattle. This Sniffspot was built in her honor. Our current pup was rescued from abuse and flown to Seattle by a rescue team to live happily ever after.

We have a convenient location in Summit just off of Canyon Road near 512. Our backyard is fully fenced, with a play structure for kids and lots of shade in the summer, but plenty of sunshine too when it’s out. The backyard has a gentle slope that’s easy to navigate, we have comfortable chairs with cushions for hanging out. Feel free to move the chairs around the yard if you want a shady spot. It’s a dead end street and is pretty quiet all together. The neighbors behind the tall cedar fence have two dogs that can sometimes be heard but not seen. Lots of people walk their dogs on leashes on the main road but it is not really visible from the backyard. We are located really close to an entrance to Orangegate Park with its newly paved and unpaved trails. You’re welcome to leave your car parked here if you’re going to enjoy some on leash time with your dog at Orangegate before or after your visit. We do not have any pets of our own but do have two little people on premises, please let me know if you’d like to introduce your dog to some kids. My kiddos are amazingly respectful, gentle and patient with dogs so would be great kids to introduce your dogs to if you’re trying to get them accustomed to kids.

2.1 acres of fully-fenced hiking heaven. As a dog owner/lover, this provides a necessary peace of mind. Pull inside the gate, and let ‘em lose! Poop happens typically w/in first 10 mins; bags can be disposed in trash. Hose water available by front door, back patio, and secure chicken coop area. All areas are fair game once you are inside the gate. Once a stop on the Gig Harbor Garden Tour, this property boasts a variety of terrain to keep your pup(s) busy for hours. We are at the end of a private lane, and the back of the property abuts to 50 acres of DNR. Sightings of cattle, wild peacocks, deer, raccoons and grouse are common. Make yourself (and family) at home around the fire pit, small orchard, tree house, trampoline, flagstone paths and trails. Good shoes highly recommended.

Fully Fenced
0.5 acres

Hello! We are the Burciaga family! We have a ton of space for families with dogs to come and play. Adults can enjoy a cup of coffee, kids can swing, slide and play while dogs live their best life! We have water and snacks for dogs as well as for the tiny humans! This is our home/yard so please care for it as you would care for your own space. Please pick up after yourself but above all, enjoy! As seasons change, we will add/change amenities.

Huckleberry Acres Private Bark In Gig Harbor

Fully Fenced
2 acres
