55This was exactly the kind of Sniffspot I was hoping to find for my giant-breed puppy. I wanted a large, securely fenced property where I could work on having her follow me without being on leash, while also giving her the opportunity to explore and experience different environments on her own. As soon as we arrived, I messaged Crystal and she immediately stepped outside and remotely opened the gate. She then sent me a message letting me know we could essentially do our own thing and enjoy the property, which made the whole experience very easy and low-pressure. We started with a few minutes of loose-leash work and then walked around the perimeter with my puppy off leash. There was a great variety of terrain and sensory experiences: open fields, wooded areas, loose rocks, sand, and larger rocks that she could climb on. She had plenty to investigate and sniff, and we even came across a few deer. It was a great opportunity for her to experience different textures, smells, sounds, and surroundings in a safe environment. After making our way around the property, we spent some time at the pool. I was able to introduce her to the water by having her sit on the first few steps with her feet slightly in the water. She wasn’t immediately convinced—she’s not exactly a natural retriever—but it was a good, low-pressure introduction and a useful desensitization experience. There is also a hose and shower area near the pool, which is a nice added convenience. What I particularly liked about this property is that it gives both the dog and the handler a sense of autonomy. With a young dog, it’s incredibly valuable to be able to let them explore, follow you, investigate different terrain, and work through new experiences without constantly worrying about them getting away. The size and secure fencing made it much easier for me to relax and focus on working with my puppy rather than managing every step. For me, this is really what a service like Sniffspot should provide: a safe, private environment where a dog can have freedom to explore while the owner can work on training, confidence, socialization, and desensitization at their own pace.thomas t.
