Description

Welcome to our Private Farm Dog Park -- a peaceful 5-acre nature escape in south Maplewood near Battle Creek, just minutes from I-94 and McKnight. Set among rolling hills, mature trees, wooded trails, open field space, and natural wildlife, this spot gives dogs a private place to run, sniff, explore, and decompress away from crowded dog parks. For history buffs, the property also has a barn built in 1896 that, to my knowledge, is the only standing barn in Maplewood still in its original form and use. The fenced play area is approx. 60 ft x 100 ft and is great for off-leash play, fetch, tug with the spring pole, and burning off energy. I also recently added a water-play area inside the fenced area with sprinklers, a kiddie pool, and a hose. For a good visit, I recommend spending the first half of your time in the fenced area, then leashing your pup(s) for a slower sniff walk around the rest of the property. Recommended tour: From the fenced area, use the small back gate and veer slightly right into the woods toward the back cul-de-sac area for a private walk among the trees. Then loop back toward the campsite, turn toward the barn and walk around it, then take the trail north through the more wooded section, which is usually the best area for sniffing and exploring. There is also a large open field on the other side of the driveway -- my favorite spot -- where young aspen trees whisper on windy days. Around 8pm, you can often enjoy a beautiful sunset from this part of the property, with a hammock nearby where you can swing, relax, and take in the quiet. It is peaceful for dogs, but also relaxing for humans who want fresh air, solitude, and time in nature. Best times to visit: Afternoons can get hot (limited shade, but the water-play area is available inside the fenced area, and afternoons are also great for slower sniff walks in the shaded, wooded areas -- more of an easygoing stroll. Mornings and evenings are generally the best times to visit, especially for active dogs who need more exercise, though you may see dog walkers within eyesight during those times. Some guests also come after sundown for highly reactive dogs who need extra stillness -- and LED collars make them fun to watch across the yard. As a dog lover and builder, I’m always improving the space with more enrichment features and amenities. This spot is especially great for dogs who need space and privacy, working breeds with energy to burn, training or confidence-building, or owners who simply want a quiet place where their dog can be a dog. Future upgrades include agility-style features, more shade, a comfy campfire area, and possibly a quick-rinse dog bath booth. I usually like to briefly greet new visitors, especially to help orient you to the property on your first visit. That said, I also understand that some dogs need complete space and some guests prefer privacy. If you have a highly reactive dog or would rather have a no-contact visit, please message me at least a day ahead of time and I’ll stay inside. Available for guests who book at least 2 hours. I’ll start the fire for you so it’s ready to enjoy during your visit. The fire pit is just outside the fenced play area, so you can relax by the fire while keeping an eye on your dogs. Best in the early evening around sunset. Includes chairs and (endless) firewood at no extra charge. Please request ahead so I can confirm fire conditions are safe.

Dog Boarding Overnight45 credits

Overnight dog boarding may be available for dogs who are a good fit after a meet and greet. This includes care in a home setting on my 5-acre property, with outdoor play, potty breaks, attention, and supervised time in the fenced play area. Best for dogs who can settle indoors and do well with a slower introduction to resident dogs. Please message me before booking.

A simple setup for a dog birthday, gotcha day, or small playdate with dogs who already know each other. Includes seating, water, dog-friendly treats, and a designated area for photos or gathering. Great for celebrating your pup while giving them space to run, sniff, and play in a private setting.

Slow Confidence Visit35 credits

For nervous, skittish, reactive, or slow-to-warm-up dogs, I can spend time with you during the visit to help your dog get comfortable with the space. This may include calm observation, a slow property introduction, confidence-building, and helping your dog settle without pressure. Not formal training. Please reserve at least 2 days ahead of time.

Summer Water Play15 credits

Coming soon: a dedicated water-play setup for warmer days. This will include a kiddie pool, sprinkler, and clean water-play area for dogs who love to cool off without getting into muddy or algae-filled water. This add-on is not available yet while I work on getting water access closer to the field.

Additional rules

Dogs are welcome to be off-leash inside the main fenced play area. The rest of the property is not fully fenced, so long leashes are ideal for letting dogs roam, sniff, and explore while still staying within a safe recall distance. You know your dog best, so please use your judgment and keep them close enough to remain safe and under control. Guests are responsible for supervising and controlling their dogs at all times. Dogs may not be left unattended anywhere on the property. For groups over 5 dogs, dogs should be from the same household, already familiar with each other, or managed by an experienced handler. Please check the gate before releasing dogs, and close/latch all gates behind you. Please clean up after your dogs before leaving. For larger groups, please do a final walk-through of the area before checkout. No digging, excessive barking, fence fighting, fence jumping, chasing wildlife, or destructive behavior. If your dog is digging, damaging fencing, or repeatedly trying to escape, please leash your dog and end the visit if needed. Do not enter the house, barn, workshop, sheds, driveway work areas, equipment areas, lumber piles, trailers, vehicles, or any area marked private/off-limits. Children must be closely supervised at all times. This is a natural farm-style property with uneven ground and normal outdoor hazards. This is a wooded property with tall grass, trees, brush, and natural wildlife areas. Please make sure your dog is up to date on flea and tick prevention before visiting. Resident dogs will be kept separate during visits. Please do not approach, interact with, or attempt to introduce your dog to resident dogs unless arranged in advance. Wildlife may be present or scented on the property, including deer, rabbits, squirrels, birds, and other animals. Please supervise dogs closely, especially dogs with high prey drive. For larger groups, please keep noise and barking under control out of respect for neighbors. By booking, guests agree that they are responsible for their own safety, their dogs’ safety, their dogs’ behavior, and any damage caused by their dogs during the visit.

I live and work on this 5-acre property in south Maplewood, which has been in my family for almost 4 decades. The land is still underdeveloped, wooded, and peaceful -- a small nature oasis tucked into the suburbs. In the summertime, the property is surrounded by lush trees, and you really do not see any neighbors. Dogs are a big part of my daily life. I own four; two are with me - a patterdale terrier and a pitmix rescue. I also board dogs through Rover, so the property has plenty of dog smells and familiar dog-park energy, along with all the natural scents that come from woods, grass, trees, and wildlife. We regularly see deer, rabbits, possums, moles, raccoons, many bird species, and other critters. A group of about 10 deer recently walked right past my bedroom. I do seasonal tree work, so you will see logs, branches, sticks, wood, and natural materials around parts of the property. Many dogs love this because there are so many hidden smells and textures to explore. Guests may park anywhere on the grass field unless otherwise marked. Since I am just starting this Sniffspot, my pricing is intentionally lower while I build my first reviews. I worked in nonprofit fundraising for 30 years before transitioning to working on my land.
