45Super pretty backyard with lots of nice trees, (both with fruit and without!) and seating areas. My dog and her doggie cousin loved running around sniffing everything. There was plenty of water and balls for the dogs to play with (though ours were more interested in the scents). The only downside was that it was a little challenging with the many steep and precarious stairs (you have to watch carefully to not step on the big stair nail-posts, and the steps aren't always uniform or solid... so definitely use caution! I wouldn't recommend this place to dogs or humans with any kind of mobility challenge, but others should be fine just using caution.
25My dogs were attacked last year and are now reactive to other dogs, so it is important for us to steer clear of other pups and minimize surprise encounters, hence why I wanted to try Sniffspot in the first place. Unfortunately when we first arrived to the spot, we unexpectedly encountered the (seemingly very nice) owner and her dog sitting in the front yard. They were obscured by the trees/brush, so we did not see them as we approached, but as we proceeded down the steps leading to the back gate, we saw them about 10-15 feet from us. This understandably scared my dogs and they began barking and lunging. The listing noted the presence of a dog but said it would remain inside, not be heard or seen, or be away from the home entirely. This was not the case and undid training and trust I’ve been building over the past months. The owner sounded very sweet and took her dog into the street, but the damage was done and really, really should have been avoidable. The yard itself was beautiful and my pups enjoyed exploring it, but they remained on edge during the visit. The initial negative encounter outweighed the positive and otherwise really lovely spot. I hate to leave a negative review, but I felt obligated to let the host know how big of an issue this can be for dogs with past trauma as well as others who are hoping to avoid dogs.
55really great private space . both dogs loved it . will certainly frequent this peaceful location.
55We had a lovely visit! The yard is huge and my younger pup was thrilled to be able to sprint around and hide among the trees. As others have noted, the fencing is low on one side of the yard, but we did get a message from the owners letting us know that the neighbors have a gate blocking the lower part of their yard from their deck, so that provided some peace of mind. The balls and chuck-it were fun and my dogs were grateful for the water!
55My dog had a blast. He was able to run off some of his husky zoomies. Yard was big and a relaxing spot.
55Another great visit to a beautiful garden. Completely fenced in with lots of nooks and crannies for your pup to sniff around, and very spacious for my dog who loves to chase the ball. We heard the neighbor dogs barking, but this was not a problem for us. A lovely backyard that’s perfect for our pup!
55Another lovely morning in the garden! My dog just loves the space to sniff, run, and play! Thank you so much!
45Private tucked away spot with easy parking. The dogs loved going into the trees. There are two dogs next door that stay on the deck. They barked until the owner pulled them inside.
55This is a special and unusual garden spot in the Oakland hills. The host, who I happened to meet, was welcoming and gracious and the space fills a need in an area with few options. The nooks and crannies, the various aromatic plants, and the small shady spaces were very interesting to my pup. The space is accurately described in the listing. Two things to know. First, there are lots of stairs to take you among the various levels of the garden. These are often garden steps without a railing, so owners with mobility concerns might consider that. Second, on the day we visited with our reactive pup there were two dogs on the other side of the fence. We were visiting on a weekend when the neighbor was outside with the dogs and some fence running ensured with our nervous boy. This might not be common or an issue for you.
55Very nice garden! Must be gorgeous in the spring after the rains! My small dog felt safe there.

Description

A lot of vegetation and places to sit down, meditate, read a book, study, or have a picnic. Your pup will love to play in our one-acre garden. Picking fruit or vegetable etc. is off the limit. Drinking water for animals is provided in various containers throughout the property. Please do not turn on or use any water equipment on our property - we had some serious problems in the past because of this. Please clean up after your dog’s “business”, smile. That’s a mandatory request. Waste bags are provided in a plastic box with other dog’s supplies) and a BROWN garbage can is in the front of the house by the street for your convenience. Thank you! Woof woof! 🌸 Note: in the rainy season we might not change the water for dogs because it’s senseless, so please arrive always with your own supply of water and if it’s raining you might like to wear rain boots as well. Have fun!
