35There's opportunity to have a nice spot here! Lots of ticks. Final count: 17 pulled off of ourselves and the dogs. Lots of space, the dogs had fun running around. I would give this spot a 3.5 or 3.75 if I could could give partial stars. There were paths mowed out which was nice. I'm sure if you kept your dog out of the longer grass, there'd be less ticks, but we went to run. The pond had very little water. I walked off the dock right into dry ground. But, the dogs found a little water to wade in. If we had more rain or water was pumped in it would be a fun spot for pups to jump off and swim.
55This spot is amazing! I think this may be the happiest our dog has ever been in his life. We hadn’t taken him to swim anywhere since adopting him and it turns out he is a natural and absolutely loved swimming in the pond (to the point we had a hard time convincing him to leave). The water was a bit lower than expected considering how much it had rained recently, but a portion of the pond was still deep enough for him to swim around after sticks. He also loved chasing his ball in the field. This place is worth the drive from Winnipeg and has it all for dogs! Since the tick season is so bad in Manitoba this year and it’s peak time in June, definitely recommend preparing for that with bug spray and long pants for humans and tick checks and obviously meds for dogs. Mosquitoes were minimal and lots of pretty wildflowers in the field. Looking forward to visiting again!
55We had a great first visit! Location was easy to find and it was clear where to park. The open field is huge and the trails are easy to find. Gracie enjoyed being able to take a dip in the pond. The water is still low but we are looking forward to being able to jump off the dock in the future! On one side, the neighbouring property is easily marked by a barbed fence. Dogs could easier pass under it, so just a heads up if their recall isn’t reliable. The other side of the property was bush and we didn’t adventure inside it. The field definitely feels private and secluded which was nice. The ticks were definitely out but not horrible. We stopped every once in a while to do a quick check to keep it manageable. However I think that is to be expected.. it is spring in Manitoba! Hosts were great and easy to get in contact with. We had a good time and will be back!
