5 stars because it’s exactly as advertised. Lots of acres of woodlands right up against a river and route 100. Easy to find and host was great with directions. I was traveling home from the holidays and was looking for a safe halfway point to stop and let my dog out to run around and stretch his legs. This was right on our way. I will echo what others have said — these aren’t well marked hiking trails, so if you’re not used to being in the woods, it might not be for you. We had great service the whole time and the highway is right there, so I think it would be extremely difficult to get lost. But if you can’t let your dog off leash and/or would be uncomfortable with steep terrain, this isn’t for you. For us it suited our needs! Thanks so much!
The perfect place to explore with our pup! He’s not a huge fan of other dogs but loves to come with us on hikes and adventures so this was the best of both worlds. Annabelle was also very helpful in helping us find where to park.
This area isn't quite what I was expecting - the description mentioned an old logging road so I assumed there would be a trail at least as wide as a less travelled hiking trail. There was, but only for the first quarter mile or so. After that, there didn't seem to be one specific trail, just a lot of crisscrossing areas that could be walked on. I didn't feel I would truly get lost with the hill, river, and road noise, but it was still a bit unexpected to not really have a solid trail to follow. The hill was very steep and a little wet despite no recent rain. My dog had no trouble but I had to take it quite slowly to avoid falling. I didn't feel confident letting my dog off leash in a brand new place that likely has wildlife, but a long line will get tangled in roots and saplings here. Advise this only for dogs that can be safely off leash, and people who enjoy steep hikes with no clearly marked trails. Advise bringing a loud whistle for calling your dog, hiking poles, and bug spray. On the plus side, I got zero bites with bug spray on. My dog did seem to enjoy sniffing the other dog smells at the start of the trail and I'm glad we got that in. *** Note: there was a pile of old scraps just a minute or two into the trail that appeared to have sharp metal! ***
It was so lovely to have a stress free outing with my reactive pup. He absolutely loved the time in nature.
Annabelle’s spot is gorgeous! There’s a cut path down to the river and then a whole mountainside to explore! The dogs loved all of it! They got pretty muddy exploring the mountain so I let them swim in the river just before going back to the car! It was perfect!

Hello! I am a fellow dog owner. I currently have two hound dogs Tibbers and Jinx who I spend as much time with as I can outside. My first furbaby was reactive so I can understand how hard it can be to find a sanctuary that allows your dog to get a taste of freedom and enjoy nature in a safe and stress free environment. Now that I have a sanctuary of my own, I wanted to share it with others.
