Location

Description

Open field on back half of property. Native flora, not irrigated at this time (future plans). Animal waterer & hydrant on field SE corner of barn, water hydrant also in parking area with jug and bowl. Table & chairs by the barn and inside pavilion attached to barn (shade area), has a refrigerator to cool your drinks and water. Active goathead eradication. Have lure coursing available by appointment (must confirm by message for operator availability) and custom agility equipment (must make special arrangement for using that) and check ahead, the agility equipment is sometimes out at other locations for events. We recently partnered with a dog training company MuttMasters Canine Academy near Colorado Springs and will be offering classes for Agility, Obedience & Behavior Modification at our location. If interested please contact us and provide your information, the trainer will setup a class time when we have sufficient interest to fill a class of 3-6 people at our location.

Cleanliness

100% of guests said this spot was as clean as expected during their visit.

Hazards

Old gopher holes. We use a non-poison control method, old tunnels sometimes open holes from erosion. Goatheads, not a lot as we use a weed burner off season and actively remove them in growing season.

Extras

Agility Equipment (setup)$50.0

I have agility equipment available though it is not regulation. It is mostly oversized as I have big dogs, and I use it in conjunction with lure coursing so the dogs are chasing the lure over & thru the obstacles. If you are interested in renting it for your time please contact me to make arrangements, it is usually locked away and would need to be setup. Price is for session setup (our time & effort), not by hour so schedule a few hours at once for same price on equipment.

Agility Equipment - Use$20.0

The setup fee is $50, afterward it is only $20 to use once it is setout. We recommend having time to do several sessions after having the equipment setout for you to optimize your practice time. Note some of the equipment is always out due to size, this doesn't mean its free, in fact it is quite expensive so please add this if you plan to use that equipment. We will be adding portable fencing etc in the future to restrict access to these larger systems to paying clients.

Lure Coursing (1 Dog - Group)$25.0

As we are out in the country we are looking to structure it so people can get time-value for the drive. Therefore we are basing it on having either a group of up to 6 dogs at $25/dog per hour, doing 4-8 runs with breaks for water & rest, or a private session with just one dog/group for $75 for the hour. If you come by when we are running our own dogs we can do this by the run ($5-10). We have to limit that to 6/hour so that traffic doesn't bother our neighbors.

Lure Coursing (2 Dogs - group)$45.0

If you have two dogs that are social and don't mind running with others. Note, if you have 4+ dogs currently you can choose the Private Session as it would be more economical.

If you have three dogs that are social and don't mind running with others. Note, if you have 4+ dogs currently you can choose the Private Session as it would be more economical.

Lure Coursing (Private)$75.0

Lure coursing for just your dog(s), no others will be present on the field. Best for reactive dogs, or if you have a pack it may be more economical if you have 4 or more dogs. Cost is for operator time and equipment.

Training Classes$0.0

This item is to show interest in attending training classes for Agility, Obedience and Behavior Modification. If you are interested we'll need your contact info to pass along to our training partners at MuttMasters Canine Academy, when there is enough to make a class, they will schedule it and notify you and you would be paying them directly for the class. The instructor will book the field for that time and the number of participant dogs.

Additional rules

Pick up after your dogs. Do not allow them to dig, this is a former farming area and there could be buried barbed wire etc (we have cleared most large rocks from the surface). It is also a sports field, other dogs run at high speed on the ground so holes are not wanted. The string and pulleys on the field are part of the lure coursing setup, leave them where they are at, do not let your dog chew the string. There are gophers in the area, we use a non-poison control method but there are burrows and tunnels that erode open occasionally so watch your step.

Jim’s spot was great! This was our first time using a Sniffspot and our pup had a great time. We mostly used the time to explore and play fetch. Towards the end Jim set up his lure course and let our dog try it, she had an absolute blast. Jim himself was friendly and knowledgeable, definitely recommend.

Great space! Only major distraction is the sheep.

Host replied: That's why the fence is extra tall & stout in back. They do provide some entertainment in that regard, my dogs still like to pause a moment to watch them and in Tony's case reminisce about the time when we moved in and he got to chase & herd them because the original fence was broken and they were grazing our field. I still have nightmares of chasing a fit 8 year old Border Collie/Belgian Shepherd mix trying to get him to stop - the Benny Hill Theme Song "Yakkity Sax" plays in the background.

This spot was AMAZING!! It was our first Sniffspot experience and we were more than pleased. There was plenty of fresh water, a little pool for the pups to play/cool off in, the fencing was nice and secure, and the agility equipment was set up when we got there which our pups had a ton of fun with! We will definitely be back, 10/10 spot.

Great area for the dogs to play. There were no other dogs near by and tons of open area for them to run. It was easy to enter and very easy to find.

Jim’s space was great! My dog is frequently subjected to long days inside and he loves to play fetch. Jim’s place provided all the space of a dog park (and then some!) but without the risks of aggressive dogs. Thanks for sharing and allowing me to get my boy some good play time!

Oliver had so much fun running around and watching the animals on the neighbors' land. Thank you for a great experience!

    Wonderful open spot!

Meet your host

I have a pack of shepherd mix rescues that I do lure coursing with (look it up, great fun for dogs). In 2017 I moved out east of Brighton, CO so I could have my own field for doing this as most public dog parks have unsuitable surfaces (rock). I work in the energy utility sector and operate a couple small businesses related to lure coursing and field maintenance.
