Sauvie Island Farm #3: Winter Pasture

Walk through winter dormant farm fields to a secluded fully-fenced pasture. Bird and wildlife sightings occur often. Be sure to wear waterproof hiking shoes. Drive SLOWLY and follow the 'Winter Pasture' signs to the back of the farm to a parking area. Then walk along farm fields to the fully fenced back pasture.

Private fully fenced ~0.17-acre backyard in SW Portland with plenty of open grassy space for dogs to run, sniff, and explore. This spot works especially well for reactive dogs, shy dogs, or high-energy pups that need room to move without encountering other dogs. Your dog will not encounter other dogs during your visit. My dog Bo (80-lb Border Collie mix, 8 years old) can stay inside, or if your dog enjoys socializing he’s happy to join for supervised play. The yard is mostly enclosed with 6-ft wood privacy fencing and secure gates, with a small section of wire fence facing the street where dogs may occasionally see passing activity. Two side gates provide easy entry into the backyard. The space is intentionally simple and sniff-friendly with grass and minimal landscaping so dogs can run, roll, and explore naturally. A separate fenced garden area keeps dogs out of the vegetable beds. Located in a quiet residential neighborhood. A nearby backyard sometimes has ducks or chickens, which you may hear occasionally, but most neighboring yards are not visible due to the fencing. Welcome to Dori’s Hilltop Haven! We’re a dog-loving family living on a quiet rural property in the hills of Gaston. We fenced this area for our crew who needed the room to run and play and now we’re happy to share it with others. The whole yard is fully fenced with 6ft non-climb and sits on a gentle slope with plenty of room for dogs to run, sniff and explore. The fenced area is near our house so it’s possible you’ll see us coming and going, but the yard itself is fully yours during your visit. Since we’re near the end of a private road we find that we are a great fit for reactive dogs, dogs in training, or anyone looking for a quieter place to let their dog run. We do our best to make sure you have everything you need out there during your visit - chairs, water bowl and hose, toys, poop bags and cots for the dogs that need a break. If there’s anything you think we’re missing don’t hesitate to message me! We hope to improve some seating areas in the yard as our Sniffspot grows. This is a space where all dogs and people are welcome. We’re really happy to share it and hope your dogs love it as much as ours do. Come enjoy the outdoors with beautiful views, open areas, forest trails, graveled roads, and a creek. You will park at our xmas tree parking lot where you will start your adventure. There are 2 miles of graveled roads and 6 miles of trails to hike, along with a creek that runs thru the property. You will have cell phone service at the Christmas tree lot area where you will park, but limited cell phone service if you decide to hike around. There are seats at the xmas tree lot, along with water and a garbage can 🐶. A heads up: The Overlook sits adjacent to a busy road, so there is noticeable traffic noise. The 6-foot fencing keeps your dog completely safe and secure, but if your pup is sensitive to road sounds, our other space — The Meadow — may be a better fit.
