55What an amazing spot!! So so glad we stopped here. We drove from Kentucky to visit family here in NC, so wanted to give the pup time to decompress after driving for 8 hours. He got all his energy out and loved every second of it!!
55We packed our gang of four into our dog van and drove an hour to visit Captain's Retreat and it was well worth the trip! We will be back. Captain's Retreat is a thoughtfully designed dog park. The fencing is tall and sturdy (and looks very nice), and we loved the separately fenced parking area - totally safe and no danger of running into the road getting in or out of the car. The trail design through the woods is perfect, with hammocks and little sitting nooks along the way, and plenty of room for the dogs to get lost from view but still be close enough to call them back to us. They had the time of their lives! Running and sniffing - through the woods, traversing the gulley, over the bridge and through the field. We could have stayed all day! 3 of our dogs have some fear/reactivity challenges, so this was the perfect place to let them romp and get a much needed dose of freedom without the stress of other dogs and people. The gazebo area has everything you need - a grill, dog wash station, sitting area, and little porch - it would be a great place to spend a few hours relaxing while the dogs spend time doing dog things. There is a nearby house with a dog who barked quite a bit when we visited the newly fenced area, but that was no problem for us - just letting anyone who has a super-reactive dog know what to expect. Thank you for creating such a great space for dogs!
55This is my third time at this location, and my first time in the evening. Highly recommend! The traffic was a lot lighter than other times I've been here, and it's a beautiful drive in the evening. I can't wait to come back next weekend!
55Captain's Retreat was fantastic!! We felt so secure and safe with the fencing. Our pup had the time of his life running around and exploring and sniffing. We will be back!
55Love visiting here! They added treats and more toys and Moishe was in heaven
55We absolutely love it! It’s clean and really really beautiful 💕
55We love coming here! It’s just as great for our young kids to run around and explore as it is for our dog!
55This place is an absolute dream. Lots of really interesting variety, some grassy fields, some woodsy areas, and a little house to hang out in. My dogs loved it and so did I!! We could have spent a whole day there! The only small note I would make is for those of you who have very noise sensitive dogs - there is a pretty big road that runs along one side of the property. Large trucks were going by it for most of the time we were there. This shouldn't be a problem for most dogs, but if you have a very noise sensitive dog, you might want to time it at a lower traffic time (basically, this place is so great that I would say, go anyway!, just find the time that's lower traffic)
55This place is amazing!! So much for your dogs to do and so much room to run !! They give you toys treats and a pool for the dogs and the area is so nicely kept!! We drove a hour to get here and We will definitely be back!! Totally worth it !!
55They say they want to offer a safe, secure and positive experience and that is EXACTLY what was provided! Brought 3 pups that don't often get to enjoy a large wooded area and they LOVED it. It's a wonderful and huge spot to allow your pup to run, explore and play, with multiple areas for the owners to enjoy as well, swings, tables, chairs. Not to mention the large bin of toys, treats, poop bags, bug spray, sunscreen and a wash area. We will for sure be going back!

Want to see your dog really get up to speed? Want to let them chase a squirrel without having to worry about traffic? Swim and wade in a creek? Come see us at Poplar Creek Flower Farm! We have 40 acres we want to share with you. 10 acres are pastures/grass which we keep mowed about every 3 weeks and the rest are woods! We have about 2 1/2 miles of trails to walk, bike or run. We are just minutes away from Pilot Mountain State Park and Highway 52, a perfect spot to stop if you're passing through. Out buildings are off limits to everyone. If it is windy, please be extra mindful in the woods- trees and branches do fall! We try to keep up with any big downed trees and try to keep trails clear. If you notice something that you feel needs our attention, please leave me a message and we will do our best! On the lane to our place, you will pass neighbors who have dogs. Please be on the lookout and drive slowly. They are typically leashed or the Great Pyrenees are in the field with the goats. Please note that the map to the property is in the black box. This will show the trails and the swimming hole! The pond is not on our property, but the creeks are! Please ensure you and your dog protect against ticks/bugs. There is an abundance of wildlife on the property- deer, turkey, snakes, squirrels, vultures, hawks and groundhogs. Please make sure you're comfortable with you're dog's recall. We hope you come and enjoy some off leash time with your 4 legged best friend(s) as you explore the pastures, wooded trails and creek!
