25I was disappointed in this Sniffspot after seeing the description as it looked like a great spot. It was difficult to know if I was in the right spot because there was no signage. I did confirm that I was in fact in the right spot. Once I entered, there was a couple nicely mowed areas but most of the property was seemingly inaccessible. There are hazards everywhere on the property. I saw broken glass, boards with nails sticking out, old garbage and equipment, etc. I didn’t feel safe letting my dog go off leash and there is no signage anywhere. If you are ok with letting your dog go off leash in areas that are inaccessible to you, it may still be a great space. There is a big marsh area that could be cool. It just wasn’t for me.
45Beautiful property and well maintained but still rustic. Lots to explore and lots of variety! The property is advertised as being 21 acres, though only a small fraction of the space is usable and much of it is wetland. Other than having a little less space than anticipated, we had a great time and will be back!
55Super cute spot with lots of smells!
55Great spot to bring the pups! Lots of room to run and explore.
55Our dog Bixby had such a great time at Beaver Pond. He loved running around the property and sniffing EVERYTHING. Pamela was really communicative which was really great and we would love to visit again.
55Lots of critter smells to send my girl into a frenzy. Nice balance between wooded 'dog-only' space and open, unobstructed space if you wanted to toss a ball. Not muddy like I was expecting, and I'm guessing birding might be a big bonus...
55This was my first stop on a solo weekend away from the fam just me and the dogs - and what a way to start! Talk about getting grounded. Beautiful property with lots of interesting nooks and crannies. I can’t wait to come back.
55Great communication with the host. Awesome spot
55Had a great time! Our whippets had a blast exploring the woods.
55So fun! The lock was super easy, 1 st thing was my dogs ate the black berries right off the vine and they each found an apple to munch on that had fallen from the tree. Lots of exploring and sniffing around! Thanks again for accommodationg a slight time change 😃

There is no dedicated fencing at this property, beyond the driveway gate. The blackberry shrubs, which I started cutting back, have acted as a natural fence. I may leave them be for now until I have a plan to replace them, but do be aware o...

Description

Please Note: 11/25/22- I’ve decided to open up the calendar for a bit to allow reservations with greater ease, but I do still ask that you message first in case someone related to our forest cleanup project is on-site. 10/1/22- At this time the property could be potentially available for your use, however, we are preparing for the forest cleanup project that we’ve been working towards with the DNR for over a year. If you are interested in visiting here, please message and if it works out I’ll be happy to accommodate you. 07/01/22- Important: The Sniffspot platform does not allow hosts the option to approve or cancel reservations, as such I have blocked my calendar to more easily control reservations. I often don’t know until last minute when the forest manager I’m working with for the DNR forest cleanup project is on-site, the logging will take place hopefully this winter. — This 21-acre forest with a large beaver pond is classified as a class-A wetland. In addition to this, you can find a shallow creek, beaver dams, old-growth forest, and phenomenal bird habitat. Find privacy and quiet with the exception of the songs of many birds and woodpeckers. This property was once a show home, but a fire took place over 10 years ago and the house was not rebuilt. While the ruins that remain are minimal, it sets an interesting backdrop; perhaps it can be the scene for a mysterious photoshoot. Within the property is a small orchard, we do ask to try to not let the pups do their business there. Spring 2022 Update: One picnic table have been added to the property.

Hazards

Always keep an eye for unstable ground, holes, and if you are in the woods some of the smaller trees are weak and may break if you apply too much pressure on them. Important Note: Behind the barn, there is a spot at the edge of the pond that was treated by the previous owner(s) as a private garbage dump. We have taken great care in our efforts to begin reconditioning the property and have already removed 4 large trailer loads of trash and 2 loads of scrap metal. There is one spot with a massive styrofoam block (have no idea what to do with this), and the spot behind the barn at the pond edge that still has some trash and a refrigerator in the water that we need to clear. We are waiting until the weather warms before we finish clearing the refrigerator and the remaining trash at the edge of the pond. Lastly, the drop from the top portion of what remains of the house to the lower portion of the foundation is substantial. Please exercise caution or refrain from looking around there especially if you have a young one with you.

Additional rules

Please do your best to pick up after your pup. This property is classified as a class-A wetland and dog poop that is left is harmful to the ecosystem. I also ask that you not let them do their business in the orchard area, this part of the grounds is being reconditioned first and while there are no sprays at this time, we may have to use a fungicide in the future. I will make a point to update the listing if I do. There are no trash cans for your use, pack out all your debris. It is important that you be respectful of the lock on the gate. I had a previous guest rip off the protective cover and leave the lock in a mud puddle. Please do not remove the protective weather cover and not leave it on the ground. I will be forced to shut down sniff spot from my property permanently if this happens again.

Host replied: I’m sincerely sorry that you didn’t feel comfortable with the property. I do have it listed in the description as well as the guest message that this property is a work in progress, and express that there is trash at the barn that we are actively still cleaning up. The reference to the boards with nails and broken glass is limited to immediately next to the barn, and as said we are still actively cleaning up as the previous individual on the property chose to not properly clean the fire damage. I’m genuinely not sure what other hazards there are as you described it in a manner that isn’t accurate, as it’s not “everywhere” it’s limited to one area. I’m honestly disappointed in this review as it’s not a fair and honest description.

Host replied: Hello, I’m surprised by your review since you indicated having such a good time. The property is 21 acres and goes a significant ways south and east. The wetlands only makes up a couple acres on the most northern end of the property. Salmon berry has encroached in the areas around the creek, so it’s possible you were unclear where you could explore. Trail building efforts will resume as the weather warns.

I am a farm girl, who now lives in the urban world. Growing up on a dairy farm and spending hours of my day within the forests that surrounded the farm, I have a strong connection to being deep within the woods. Now as a business-women and mother, I long for those days again. My desire is to restore the property we have listed and make it a relaxing and restorative place to be for both my family and yours. I am an avid gardener and nature enthusiast.
