Description

With big wide open trails, forest, marsh, creeks and wildlife, this doggy paradise is attracting visitors from all over southern Ontario. It's been muddy and overcast for a few weeks but finally the sun has come out! The water is not yet frozen over but the ground is hard making for an easier (and less messy!) walk. Trail map is found here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1do57Iq23GVfcDxiEGihv7dVUWFXBSrGq/view?usp=drive_link Trails are open, mowed and maintained all year long. In the winter I use them for cross-country skiing. It's OK if you or your dog walk in the paths made by my skis. We host a beekeeper who has about 40 hives on a well-marked and avoidable section of one trail. The bees won't be out until April but please avoid the hives anyway. Read the reviews to get a good sense for what kind of experience you will have. I am grateful for all the positive feedback and pledge to make your experience just as fantastic.

Cleanliness

100% of guests said this spot was as clean as expected during their visit.

Hazards

This spot has a water feature, make sure to review these guidelines for visiting spots with water before visiting: https://help.sniffspot.com/article/167-how-to-keep-your-dog-safe-around-pools-and-water Bee hives on one trail - they don't like small dogs! Easy to avoid, well marked. Bees aren't active in fall and winter, but stay away from the hives anyway. We live out in the country and there are coyotes. They are very shy, and if you stay on or near the trails you will never see them. Avoid dusk or early morning if this is a concern for you. The west side cutover from Meadow to Black Walnut can be up to a foot deep.

We visited Martin’s Sniffspot for the first time on February 19 (Family Day weekend, and probably the last snowy weekend of this winter) and we all loved it, humans and dog alike! It was clear Martin put a lot of effort in making this a 5 star location with the maintained and marked trails on the huge and beautiful property, trail maps, and even a blog with all the latest updates. There were so many interesting smells for our dog to check out that it definitely put the “sniff” in Sniffspot! We appreciated the signs and caution tape for areas to avoid, as well as the garbage can at the front so we didn’t have to bring dog poop home in the car. Definitely looking forward to visiting again! Thanks Martin!

Perfect spot to run, sniff and explore! My dogs and I loved it here. Trails were clean and well maintained with clear signage throughout. The map and garbage can were the perfect touch. We will definitely be back soon!

Host replied: Really appreciate your enthusiastic review! We'll strive to make every visit just as memorable.

Amazing! Trails are well marked and maintained just as the description says. The map was handy for our first visit and areas to avoid were also clearly marked. There is a road on one side but the trails were much more interesting to the dogs. The sun came out, and we had beautiful mostly snow-covered trails. Dogs and humans had a great time. I appreciated the garbage can so I didn’t have to drive home with 💩 🤣. Thanks to the host for sharing this property!

Host replied: I always love the photos of dogs having fun! Thank you. Glad you had a great time!

  • Bridgette G., Feb 18, 2024

Such a beautiful piece of land. Lots of different terrain to explore. The dogs really enjoyed running around. We enjoyed not worrying about running into any other dogs, having one reactive dog.

  • Andrew W., Feb 17, 2024

Paths are very well maintained, host is host is really welcoming.

  • Lea Anne B., Feb 17, 2024

This was great for us to do training with our dogs off leash, not to have to worry about other dogs . Dogs loved it!!!

  • Erin B., Feb 17, 2024

This spot is a gem! Martin met us when we arrived to give us a bit of an orientation and a map, which was a thoughtful touch. My dog can be reactive to strangers, and Martin worked with me to set up a meeting she could tolerate, which I really appreciated. The trails themselves are clear and well maintained, even in winter. No sign of any other people or dogs while we were walking - this is a great spot for reactive dogs and their guardians to have a nice (relaxing!) outdoor adventure. One section of trails runs closer to the road, so be mindful of that if you’re concerned about your pup running off. This wasn’t an issue for us - my girl doesn’t stray too far when we hike - but if that’s a concern for you, it would be easy to avoid that section. We’ll be back and definitely recommend this spot!

Host replied: Very helpful for you to mention that the stretch closer to the road can be avoided. Thanks!

Another great time On these lovely trails Weather was perfect with fresh fallen snow

  • Cat S., Feb 14, 2024

We had a great time at Martin's! We booked an hour and it wasn't enough time to do all the trails. Would definitely recommend for a reactive dog. Lots to sniff and explore!

  • Ann A., Feb 11, 2024

Love this spot! Martin was so welcoming with an electronic and paper map, and the trails are very well marked with signs. My reactive dog was so happy to run as hard as he could without seeing a soul.

I love to ski, so I cut a lot of trails. My dog Teddy is a shy but friendly Shitzu-Poodle mix who likes to go on long walks. Teddy and I are happy to share the trails with other dogs.

Private Dog Park In Waterdown at Goldenwood Acres

Welcome to Goldenwood Acres! On our 26 acre hobby farm, we have a 6 acre fully fenced farm field/dog park. Ride up and park at the white barn, and walk your leashed puppers to the field past our chickens, gardens, woodmill, and ponds. From the barn to the dog park you will get familiar with our surroundings and other fences. There is access to the forest and two ponds on the property. Crossing through the tree line you have private access to the 6 acre field. Four-foot tall fencing is installed for your security. Note in the Winter, we have removed the gate due to snow and maintenance. Gates will be installed before March 2024. The best time to come is July between September. Come walk between the sunflower rows that grow up to 10 feet tall! We cut the field between the sunflowers, make trails and play spots. We also leave big areas untouched for our honeybees (hives located in the other field). Enjoy seeing natural landscapes, trees, and privacy. Have fun, play catch and let your animal have unleashed freedom! Please check out the last photos, we have uploaded a printable "safety map" and legend for your use. Note the fire pit is not available during the winter season (November to March). Fencing Details: The 6-acre Dog Park Field is permanently fenced with approximately 2,500 linear feet of 4’ tall farm fence. The farm fence consists of professionally installed 2” by 4” squares of wire mesh and 6” cedar posts. There is on openings for the main gates that is currently open. The opening is 16’ wide. If you look at the photos you can see the locations of the gates on the main photo or “safety map” (see photos and captions). If you have any questions please let me know. We have more fencing on other parts of the property outside of our dog park. Refer to the safety map (see photos).
