On our drive to this SniffSpot it started pouring down rain HARD, but luckily my dog and I don’t care and I brought extra towels after reading about how muddy the entrance can be. There was a lot of mud, and lots of little ponds forming in the pasture which was just more fun for my dog. There was also old cow poop so if your dog eats everything they may be interested in that. We had so much fun and it was so nice to let her stretch her legs and run like crazy on so much land! She romped around in the mud, puddles, and chased a couple birds. If you have a small dog I would be cautious. Because of the location there were two hawks circling near the pasture. I was a bit worried about how my dog would do with the fences, but she was totally uninterested in anything past the fence and knew she couldn’t get past it. Overall we had a great time and we will be back!

This was our first time using a sniff spot, and we couldn't have picked a better place! There was plenty of space for our family's three German Shorthaired Pointers to sprint full speed, and they even had the chance to chase some birds. Beware, there are places of extreme mud, but we came prepared, and our pups really love running through it! We will definitely be back.

  • Bekah S., Feb 24, 2024

If your dogs like to run, this is the place! Amazing open fields, and great view for the humans, especially on a sunny day.

  • Carmen R., Feb 23, 2024

great! it’s far from any distractions perfect for a dog to just focus on playing or training with no animal or human distractions.

  • Jesse G., Feb 21, 2024

It was clean, big and very beautiful definitely recommend!

  • dani n., Feb 20, 2024

Oliver loved this place and for us it was easy to find. It is muddy in places which Oliver loved and we were ok with because we wore rubber boots. So much open space for sniffing, exercising and running. We bring a pump sprayer and towel for after.

  • Jadon B., Feb 20, 2024

Very good, bring boots if it’s rainy season 😎

  • Barbara A., Feb 19, 2024

    Lots of room to run

  • Amber W., Feb 18, 2024

Wonderful location. Just follow the directions provided and you'll be there with ease. The wide open area being fenced in was wonderful and my pup enjoyed it immensely.

  • Alison T., Feb 18, 2024

Great Sniffspot!! Our dog had a blast! He ran his legs off. Love being able to stay in one fenced area, or use the gate into the next. It was very easy to find and well signed. Some muddy areas, but not a big deal at all. Definitely wear welly boots and bring some towels to wipe muddy paws afterwards. I think this is our new favourite spot! Excellent!!!

Hike up the mini forest

Our property is shy of 12 acres, 9+ acres of which we're sharing as a private off leash dog space or Sniffspot. The entrance is over the bridge where the creek is and 'From Creek to Back of Property' is all yours to explore. You may unleash your doggies right after the bridge and chain the gate if you want. Dogs might run down the creek for a splash or drink. Continue on to our family campground, there are picnic tables you could use, enjoy a picnic with your loved ones if you're up for it. Then, up the hill you go to 'hike up the mini forest', free to roam around, listen to the birds, squirrels and other critters and sounds that nature brings you. You'll find seating areas while your dogs are at play, feel free to use them. The back of property behind fence is DNR land, so rest assured you’re on your own private little world with your furry buddies. The mini forest has some large walking paths and smaller trails scattered about, also some open meadows and is at a peaceful wooded setting. This is where I go to unwind and relieve my head of stress and worries. It’s my place of meditation, while my dogs sniff and romp around like crazy, do their zoomies and play hide n seek! *If you want to save a little bit of moolah, I offer membership. Forget about the gym, you'll get your exercise here with your dogs. If you are a member of my sniffspot, or have older dog/s and would like to drive below or up the hill to park so the fur buddy don't get exhausted, message me.* Some of you have asked about the cabins. Sniffspot is unavailable if Cabins are booked or vice versa. Booking is through Hipcamp (www.hipcamp.com). Name of listing: 'Grace E.'s Mini Forest Cabins'. Our property is located off the Burn Road in Arlington and is 5 acres, 1 of which is fully fenced and there are about 3+ acres of woods that have a trails throughout that we are constantly trying to add onto. Access to the backyard will be through the double gates on the south side of the house. Access to the trails can be either gate along the back fence. We just ask that you close whichever gate you use upon entrance and exit. The trails currently are just shy of 1/4 of mile looping back to the gates of the fenced in backyard. We do have a seasonal pond in the woods that we plan on trying to expand access too (it’s a work in progress). The fence is 3.5 feet high split rail with chain link very secure, the back portion of fencing is strictly chain link same height but acts as a natural looking wild fence. Dogs can play ball, sniff around, and run off lease in the fenced yard. Dogs with good recall can be off leash on the trails and run throughout. We do have neighbors where our woods end that are mostly fenced but some do not have fencing (which is why recall is needed). There is no delineation between the neighbor to the north’s huge pasture area which would be off limits. Please enjoy yourself and let us know if you have any ideas to add to the property. The pictures were taken during the winter months, the property and trails are so much prettier during the spring through fall months. Thank you for stopping by.k

WEATHER ALERT: If you are checking the weather online check the Ferndale (98248) weather. The Bellingham weather stops at the Smith Road. My prevailing wind is from the South BUT I do get the cold NE wind from Canada. NOTE: This is an acreage area which formerly held dog events; barn hunt, earth dog, carting, rally, obedience, tracking and nose work. The off leash area was set up for the dogs to have a place to run and play safely away from the other dogs when not working. This is all sandy loam so no standing water even when it rains. There is a water faucet down by the smaller barn (west side). You are welcome to fill your dog's bowls. Just be sure you turn the water off after. I have put some folding chairs just inside the big door of the barn. You are welcome to use them. I have also put a shovel out there so you can fill in any holes your dog digs. It is important you put balls back in the crate, they do not do well under the mower (the mower doesn't like it either. Please fill in any large holes your dog digs, so my mower doesn't bog down in one. if you want a bit more room to run your dogs, you may close the 2 big gates and let your dog run in the "parking area". It is all fully fenced. Be aware, the big gate into the back pasture does have a gap under it. THE BACK PASTURE IS OFF LIMITS THERE IS LIVESTOCK BACK THERE! PLEASE PICK UP AFTER YOUR DOG EVEN IN THE BIG AREA. THANK YOU!!!
