Location

Black Hawk, Colorado

Description

Take a lovely walk in the woods with your dog, let them sniff and enjoy nature. Lots of squirrels to chase, sniffs to enjoy and hills to run up and down. Three acres of forest, fully fenced for your enjoyment. This is not the average suburban development -- this is more like hiking in the National Forest. You won't have any issues with dogs or people on adjacent properties! This property is surrounded by National Forest and unfenced/unused private property. In addition, you have another acre for agility, complete with jumps, tunnels, dog walk, a-frame, teeter, etc. All high end equipment. The running surface is flat & covered with 4 inches of wood chips. The wood chips are all from local trees, so no worries about added chemicals, etc.

Cleanliness

100% of guests said this spot was as clean as expected during their visit.

Hazards

This is like hiking in National Forest. The ground is uneven and hilly. Wildlife abounds. You are likely to see hummingbirds, ravens, and hawks. You might see coyotes, deer, elk, or moose on the way to my house. Mountain lions and bobcats also live in the nearby forests, but you are very unlikely to see them. The fence keeps the undesirables out of the area that you will be in. NOTE: Some of you have asked about snakes...and the answer is...NO! We do not have any snakes at this altitude! Thank goodness!

Extras

Agility Equipment$0

First class agility equipment, including Clip-N-Go teeter, dog walk & A-Frame. Two tunnels with sand bags, many jumps. Feel free to set up whatever equipment arrangement you would like. Safety tip: keep the jump bars below the height of your dog, at the shoulder, particularly for agility-beginners!

Dog Toys$0

We have a cooler that is overflowing with dog toys! Please play with them while you are here! Our cooler also acts as a lost & found. If you accidentally left a toy behind, on a previous visit, you'll probably find it in the bin. If so, feel free to take it home! If you lose a toy in the woods, no worries! Our dogs LOVE to find them & put them back in the cooler! Enjoy!

Dog Training$25

BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. Send me a message about some times that work for you, so that we can figure out a something that works for both of us. Sessions are 30 minutes. Sample topics: 1) Intro to Agility, or 2) Basic Manners, or 3) Better Recalls. Or, make up your own topic. Note that I do not work with human-reactive dogs...you'll need a Behavioral Veterinarian for that.

High Country Bird Watching$0

In addition to nuthatches, finches, chickadees, juncos, siskins, grosbeaks, crossbills and woodpeckers, you will sometimes see Western tanangers, hawks, and turkeys. And ONCE -- I saw a Golden Eagle!!!!! Hummingbirds, May through August: broadtailed, caliope, rufous & black chinned. TONS of hummers! If you download Merlin Bird ID, a free app from Cornell, you can turn on the SoundID and it will identify all of the species currently singing to you.

Introverts' Package$0

If your dog is a confirmed introvert -- or if you are -- just let me know and we can forgo any host greeting! I'll plan to be gone when you are here, or stay inside the house. My dogs will be quiet and invisible. You can park up by the woodpile, away from the house and come straight into the agility field, through the metal gate. I want everyone to feel welcome, in whatever way suits you best!

Weather!$0

Yup, we have weather! Sometimes it snows, sometimes it rains, sometimes the wind blows. As we say up here, there is no bad weather, only insufficient clothing. Please be prepared with an extra layer of clothing and good shoes. If your visit was spoiled by a sudden storm, let me know and I can issue you a discount for your next visit!

Wi-fi$0

Starlink, so it’s pretty fast. Use the “agility” network with 1234567890 as the password. Connection is better when you are closer to the house.

We had a great time walking around the woods, enjoying the peace and quiet.

This was our first Sniffspot and it was perfect! So much to room to roam around but it was also safe and tidy. My Pyrenees loved being able to be in the woods off leash. We will be back!

Host replied: We are so happy to hear that you had a great time! We'd love to have you come back!

  • Katherine A., Nov 22, 2023

The best spot we've been to so far. Perfect with no "yards" around their own property, so there are no dogs or other animals around the fence line. Having a bathroom accessible is also really nice.

Host replied: Thank you for the nice review! Yes, we totally agree...it is nice to not have any neighboring yards! Come back any time!

  • Lydia C., Nov 20, 2023

This place is a reactive dog owners heaven. My dog has never been able to have that kind of freedom to run around through the woods like that before we came here. Thank you SO much

Host replied: Thank you for visiting! I'm so delighted that your pup enjoyed the freedom to run around! That's the main reason we created our Sniffspot!

  • Allison B., Nov 19, 2023

Amazing space! Could spent the entire day here. Very well maintained fencing with no other humans or animals around. Had a nice little hike and hung out on the Adirondack chairs. Will definitely be back :)

Host replied: Thank you for visiting! We are so glad you had a good time here! We'd love to have you come back!

  • Jamie S., Nov 13, 2023

    Dogs loved it as usual!

Prepare to disconnect from the city!

Host replied: What a great photo! Your pup really does look disconnected from the city! Thanks for coming, come back any time!

  • Asher A., Nov 12, 2023

This place is amazing! Our dogs can’t go to dog parks because they are reactive and not good with strange dogs. We live in the city and there are barely any places for them to run around. This property was secluded enough for our dogs to feel comfortable and run around and explore and we had the peace of mind that it was fenced. Awesome and will come back!

Host replied: Thank you for coming! I'm so glad your pups had the opportunity to run around & feel comfortable! Come back any time!

  • Emily R., Nov 12, 2023

Our dogs LOVED it here. They were able to really run and get out all the wiggles! I loved that it was such a large space and completely fenced in. There was snow on the ground in the middle on November, but it was a beautiful day and our dogs love snow! They also had a blast on the agility course-we will be back! We also thought the communication and instructions from the host were excellent!

Host replied: We are so glad that you got all the wiggles out! That's a great feeling! Come back any time!

Second visit and well worth the drive from Denver. Our puppy has a blast in the agility tunnels and bounding around in the wooded areas.

I love dogs, which is how I ended up living in a place that dogs love! I have 4 acres of woodlands around my house, 2 acres are fenced, with an additional acre in an agility field. I have loved and trained dogs who are reactive and am well aware of the concerns and the ways to help.
