55Our dogs loved it here, and we had fun too! The area was clean and very well maintained. You can tell this is a place built around a lot of love for dogs! We have a reactive dog, and he loved being able to run around and be free without seeing/hearing any triggers. Absolutely will be coming back!
55The instructions/directions from the host were great, and the entrance gate even had a helpful property map. The property itself was super fun and our dog loved it! Lots of good sniffs, especially in the woods. We will definitely be back!
55Our 3rd time here, such an amazing spot for the dogs to explore. They thought it was magical!
55Excellent and beautiful location! The dogs loved it, and we will definitely be back.
55This was a perfect place to get out of the city for an afternoon and let the dogs explore safely. It was so relaxing. We will be back!
55Fantastic! Dogs LOVED it! The slick spring snow and ice made it a little difficult at times for my older dogs to get around on the slope, but they found their way around :) My dogs are not into agility courses but that area made for a good place at the end of trip to slow down, get some water and get some last sniffs before heading home. 4 out of 4 front paws approve! Will definitely be back! Thanks!
55Our dogs had a great time at Melissa's place. Melissa was very responsive anytime I messaged her. There was still deep snow so bring snow boots!
55Brought my 2 dogs. They absolutely loved it! They had so much fun sniffing around and playing. One of my pups is sensitive so it was really nice knowing we had the place to ourselves and didn't have to worry about any encounters with other people/dogs.
55This was a super fun a relaxing spot! Had tons of amenities and it’s a great excuse to get out of the city for a while.
55This spot is awesome- especially for fearful or reactive dogs! My pup gets scared easily at new spots but the host keep their dogs silent & my dog was able to have a blast with no worries of strangers or dogs. Such an amazing location to explore and the agility field is super cool! The dirt driveway is rather rough so be careful in small cars if it is muddy, but mine made it up with no problem today.

Location

Black Hawk, Colorado

Description

Take a lovely walk in the woods with your dog, let them sniff and enjoy nature. Three acres of forest, fully fenced for your enjoyment. This is not the average suburban development -- this is more like hiking in the National Forest. Lots of squirrels to chase, sniffs to enjoy and hills to run up and down. You won't have any issues with dogs or people on adjacent properties! This property is surrounded by National Forest and unfenced/unused private property. In addition, you have another acre for agility, complete with jumps, tunnels, dog walk, a-frame, teeter, etc. All high end equipment. The running surface is flat & covered with wood chips. The wood chips are all from local trees, so no worries about added chemicals, etc.

Cleanliness

100% of guests said this spot was as clean as expected during their visit.

Hazards

NOTE: As of April 10, 2024, we do still have some snow on the ground. Bring your snow loving dogs! This is like hiking in National Forest. The ground is uneven and hilly. Wildlife abounds. You are likely to see hummingbirds, ravens, and hawks. You might see coyotes, deer, elk, or moose on the way to my house. Mountain lions and bobcats also live in the nearby forests, but you are very unlikely to see them. The fence keeps the undesirables out of the area that you will be in. NOTE: Some of you have asked about snakes...and the answer is...NO! We do not have any snakes at this altitude! Thank goodness!

Extras

Agility Equipment$0

First class agility equipment, including Clip-N-Go teeter, dog walk & A-Frame. Two tunnels with sand bags, many jumps. Feel free to set up whatever equipment arrangement you would like. Safety tip: keep the jump bars below the height of your dog, at the shoulder, particularly for agility-beginners!

Dog Toys$0

We have a cooler that is overflowing with dog toys! Please play with them while you are here! Our cooler also acts as a lost & found. If you accidentally left a toy behind, on a previous visit, you'll probably find it in the bin. If so, feel free to take it home! Enjoy!

High Country Bird Watching$0

In addition to nuthatches, finches, chickadees, juncos, siskins, grosbeaks, crossbills and woodpeckers, you will sometimes see Western tanangers, hawks, and turkeys. And ONCE -- I saw a Golden Eagle!!!!! Hummingbirds, May through August: broadtailed, caliope, rufous & black chinned. TONS of hummers! If you download Merlin Bird ID, a free app from Cornell, you can turn on the SoundID and it will identify all of the species currently singing to you.

Introverts' Package$0

If your dog is a confirmed introvert -- or if you are -- just let me know and we will forgo any host greeting! I'll plan to be gone when you are here, or stay inside the house. My dogs will be quiet and invisible. You can park up by the woodpile, away from the house and come straight into the agility field, through the metal gate. I want everyone to feel welcome, in whatever way suits you best!

Tips for Reactive Dogs$0

This is a perfect place for reactive or sensitive dogs. Here are some safety tips: Arrive & leave on time. I often use the 30 minutes between guests for my dogs, so don't come in early or leave late without my permission. Check for other vehicles, to make sure no one else is here. My blue Tahoe might be here. Stay off the decks around the house, as that will trigger my dogs to bark. These areas are fenced off, to make that easy for you. Have a great time!

Weather!$0

Yup, we have weather! Sometimes it snows, sometimes it rains, sometimes the wind blows. As we say up here, there is no bad weather, only insufficient clothing. Please be prepared with an extra layer of clothing and good shoes. If your visit was spoiled by a sudden storm, let me know and I can issue you a discount for your next visit!

Wi-fi$0

Starlink, so it’s pretty fast. Use the “agility” network with 1234567890 as the password. Connection is better when you are closer to the house.

I love dogs, which is how I ended up living in a place that dogs love! I have 4 acres of woodlands around my house, 2 acres are fenced, with an additional acre in an agility field. I have loved and trained dogs who are reactive and am well aware of the concerns and the ways to help.
