Description

Welcome! Come enjoy the yard it has a running creek so your animal can have a nice drink. At the moment there is a wood chip pile that dogs are welcome to run up and down on. There are logs of they want to run those also. I am home a few days out of the week. I won't be a bother to you while you are here on the day's I am home. There are chickens out some days and other days not. The chickens do not bother my dogs. Also my dogs would be put away during the day for the most part. Unless the dogs are already out while upon your arrival they won't be out during stay. Someone does come and let them out. The yard is unfenced and close to the highway. Highway can be seen from yard. There is a county fence blocking the freeway and the yard. Cannot guarantee that there is no holes in the fence that animals can get through.

We actually didn’t stay. When we pulled up there were two dogs that looked to be living outdoors. They were in a separate fenced area with a indoor enclosure of some sort. The dogs were barking at us and we felt that it would have been too much for our dogs. We also wouldn’t have felt comfortable letting them off leash.

A world-class Pacific Northwest natural rainforest adventure awaits you and your best friends on 65-year-old trails, through 2 acres of trails, forest, and open areas for ball throwing and chasing sticks on 8 or 9 terraces. Starting with your choice of 2 entrance paths on the far right and left over a bluff that winds around, to The Landing Pad, through other trails forming circles to run around on and play. At the very bottom, the trails lead to a creek, on the left. The property is partially fenced and has natural barriers. It is bounded by a fence at the top, a fence on one L-shaped side, and a cliff to the creek on the other. The steep hill above the creek and dense brush provide a natural boundary, except for the most adventuresome dogs and their physically fit friends. Bring more than one dog, if possible, because they love to chase each other around the switchback trails. This forest was clear-cut between 65 to 100 years ago and not replanted. So we replanted our forest with 600+ trees. The ground is wood chips, sand, and Pacific Northwest duff with 160ft tall Hemlock, Douglas Fir, Alder, Big Leaf Maple trees, ferns, and native bushes with views of a 20-acre privately owned forested wetland. We prepared it as a Sniffspot for dogs. The lower part that connects to the creek area is not fenced. Rarely seen are animals in the forest, occasional wild rabbits, moles, squirrels, mountain beavers, mice, raccoons, shrews, voles, and weasels. Many birds are here, starlings, chickadees, woodpeckers, hawks, and American Bald Eagles. There are moles thus mole holes because it is a delightfully rugged private area so you must be careful where you step until you get used to the signs of moles and Mountain beaver underground trails crossing the paths, especially along Secret Lane, Lover's Lane, and Hidden Lane. We spent 4+ years removing invasive bushes, cutting down dead trees, and creating places for you to pause, sit, and enjoy your dogs in this natural rainforest 1 mile from the South Sound. When you park you can close the entry gate at the top. Garbage is available on the way out under the Big Leaf Maple tree at the driveway in the large green bin marked "Garbage". The Southeast corner of this Sniffspot where the creek is down a steep embankment, also is part of the property, but descending the steep area is not advisable unless you are fit and feel capable of the climb down and up. We feel a lot of delight here. We welcome you to enjoy it! We continue to work with Mayor Jim Ferrell and his Code Compliance team on the problem regarding the trash strewn on the owner/developer's land comprising most of Lakota Creek Basin. The landowner has set the clean-up start date the week of February 19, 2024 (hasn't started as of 2/27/24). Hope you can visit and enjoy it soon! 2 Starbucks less than 5 minutes away in either direction (bathrooms available there). If your dog is reactive and you want to, you may wish keep your pup leashed until you are safely at the top of the path. When departing, on either side of the trails, at the top you can pause to leash your dog if you wish. The Sniffspot trails do not interact with the house area.

New: disinfecting wipes and spray to protect your dogs' health amidst news of a contagious illness. Each visitor can disinfect and refill the provided water bowl or bring their own. Beautiful fenced tall-grass pasture with some woods at the lower end. 1.5 acres. If desired, you can drive right into the pasture and secure the gate behind you before letting your dog(s) loose. There is a mix of tall grass, shorter grass, and the lower "riparian"/woodsy area (mostly alder trees), which has a seasonal creek that runs in winter and is dry in summer. Your dog may find the scent of deer where they've bedded down at night, though it's unlikely that any will be present for your visit. You will see that I've planted and protected some fruit trees and native plants here and there. A sheltered area allows you to sit in the shade or out of the rain, and that's where you'll also find most amenities, such as toys and water. There are two driveways onto the property. You want the north one with the sign "Ericksen." After driving up that driveway, you'll see a "sniffspot" sign on the gate into the pasture. Please do not enter the farmhouse yard. The residents of the farmhouse are not the sniffspot hosts. For any questions, issues, or suggestions about how I can improve this spot, please drop me a message or call me, Annika, at 253-346-5863. New: accepting donations for COMPOST, like leaves, lawn clippings, pumpkins, newspaper, fruit/veg peels, coffee grounds, annual plants including tomatoes, used potting soil, tree trimmings, etc. You'll see the compost receptacle as you come up the driveway.
