Description

More fencing, another new trail added in July 2023 and a sanikan added in November 2023. Two picnic tables. Gated entrance. Enjoy our secluded woodsy and shaded trails on this 12-acre parcel. Relax in the provided chairs in the center of the lot while your dogs explore.

Cleanliness

99% of guests said this spot was as clean as expected during their visit.

Hazards

You'll be on woodland trails so there will be the normal hazards. You could step in a gopher hole, trip on a root, get scratched by blackberry vines, or step in a poodle, er puddle. ;). Very rarely, as in about once every 400 visits, you may see a coyote from a distance. We've never had a dog/coyote encounter, but if this possibility makes you uncomfortable, then this is probably not the place for you.

My dad bought this property in 1946 and I've lived next to it and walked my own dogs on it for most of my life.

A world-class Pacific Northwest natural rainforest adventure awaits you and your best friends on 66-year-old trails, through 2 acres of trails, forest, tall old growth trees, a creek, and open areas for ball throwing and chasing sticks on 9 terraces. Starting with your choice of 2 entrance paths on the far left and right over a bluff that winds around to The Landing Pad, through other trails forming circles to run around on and play. ('Yes, there are 2 paths you can go by'). At the very bottom, our Madhatter trail leads to a creek. The property is partially fenced and has natural barriers. It is bounded by a fence at the top, a fence on one L-shaped side, a cliff, and creek on the other. Bring more than one dog, if at all possible, because they LOVE to play 'Hide and Go Seek', and chase each other around in circles on the switchback trails, down the hill to the creek and back up the hill to the lodge. This tranquil forest was mostly clear-cut between 66 to 100 years ago then not replanted. So we replanted our 2-acre forest with 600+ trees. The ground is wood chips, sand, Pacific Northwest duff, with 160ft tall Hemlock, Douglas Fir, Alder, Big Leaf Maple trees, 1 Madrona, ferns, and native bushes with views of a 20-acre privately owned forested wetland. We prepared the yard as a Sniffspot for dogs. Rarely seen are animals in the forest - occasional wild rabbits, moles, squirrels, mountain beavers, raccoons, mice, shrews, voles, and weasels. Many birds are seen and heard here- thrush, grosbeaks, warblers, sparrows, starlings, chickadees, flycatchers, redstarts, vireos, tanager, pewees, orioles, woodpeckers - shorebirds, waterfowl, raptors, such as hawks, and American Bald Eagles. This is a rugged forested area so be careful of footing! watch for signs of moles and Mountain beaver underground trails crossing the paths, especially along Secret Lane, Lover's Lane, and Hidden Lane (signs to be added soon). Do wear boots if you plan to access the creek. We spent 4+ years removing invasive bushes, cutting down dead trees, and creating places for you to run, walk, play, pause, sit, and enjoy your dogs in this natural rainforest, one mile from the South Sound. When you park you can close the entry gate at the top. A garbage container for poo bags is available at the top driveway as you exit under the Big Leaf Maple tree on the right in the large gray bin marked "Garbage". We feel a lot of delight here. We welcome you to enjoy it now! 2 Starbucks are less than 5 minutes away in either direction (bathrooms are available there). Bigfoot Java is at 4627 SW 320th St. (no bathroom but open 24x7) Join us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61556216197208 or search "Wonderlane World Famous Sniffspot" :-) Wonderlane is a place to commune with nature, a peaceful place to breathe in nature with some walks over and around 2 acres of forested hills. You can't get lost, just keep going up if you are unsure. When it is raining and for water dogs, bring a towel to dry off pups' paws. There is water to wash dogs down near the creek. Actually there are water hydrants in most areas. If your dog is reactive and you want to, you may keep your pup leashed the 20 ft from your vehicle to the top of either trailhead. When leaving via either trail at the top you can easily pause to leash your dog if you wish. PS. If your dog doesn't want to leave, contact me and I'll ring the Magic Chuck Waggin' Triangle, and your dog will come. No worries!

Pepper's Pasture in Gig Harbor

Beautiful sloped pasture with some woods at the lower end. 1.5 acres. If desired, you can drive right into the pasture and secure the gate behind you before letting your dog(s) loose. It changes by the season. In summer, the grass grows tall and you can enjoy the shade of alders in the lower portion. A seasonal creek runs through it in winter and spring. Your dog may find the scent of deer where they've bedded down at night, though it's unlikely that any will be present for your visit. You will see that I've planted and protected some fruit trees and native plants here and there. A sheltered area allows you to sit in the shade or out of the rain, and that's where you'll also find most amenities, such as toys and water. There are two driveways onto the property. You want the north one with the sign "Ericksen." After driving up that driveway, you'll see a "sniffspot" sign on the gate into the pasture. Please do not enter the farmhouse yard. The residents of the farmhouse are not the sniffspot hosts. For any questions, issues, or suggestions about how I can improve this spot, please drop me a message or call me, Annika, at 253-346-5863. New: accepting donations for COMPOST, like leaves, lawn clippings, pumpkins, newspaper, fruit/veg peels, coffee grounds, annual plants including tomatoes, used potting soil, tree trimmings, etc. You'll see the compost receptacle as you come up the driveway.
