Watauga Humane Society Fenced Space - Play for a Good Cause!

Not every dog loves the dog park — and that’s okay! If Arko Dog Park isn’t the right fit, try a private play session in the WHS Sniffspot area. Nestled near our trails, this wide-open space is perfect for dogs who prefer room to run, sniff, and explore on their own. With gratitude to Mountain Fence and Deck for enclosing the space, this area was once the yard for our Diamond Dog program, where dogs practiced their manners while living in a home-like setting on campus. Even better, your dog’s play helps support the lifesaving mission of Watauga Humane Society.

Slys Peace Trail

Located in the foothills, the Slys Peace trail was created for dog stimulation. The trail starts at the lower end of the pasture and follows the creek meandering through a rhododendron forest. Situated at the base of 100 acres of wooded ridge land, the hike offers a wilderness experience customized to your comfort zone. There are multiple trails to accommodate your level of exercise. The full experience will require crossing the creek multiple times and is recommended for those with hiking experience. Trails are easy to follow with multiple exits that lead out to the pasture. This is dog heaven. Let your dog be a dog. To locate the gate entrance watch for the Giant metal horse. His nose points the way. Follow the fenceline a few hundred feet where you will find the gate just before the power line easement. There is now a large Sniff Spot sign securely attached.

Our dogs want to share their yard with yours! This is a long fenced yard great for running, playing, frisbee, or just sitting in the sun. Used by our dogs, but they will be put away or at daycare when yours are here. Homeowner will be present when yard is in use, but the yard space will be all yours.

This small space is perfect to let your dog run , play, or relax in the sun or shade without the worry of escaping. The .25 acre lot is fully fenced, 4 foot on the lowest side and 6 foot on the highest side. This yard space is the backyard of a house, so be mindful that this is other doggies home as well as your play area! There are other dogs & cats in the neighborhood that roam, so be watch for them as you load and unload your dogs for their playtime. There is a gate on both sides of the house, one accessible from the driveway and the other is on the far left side of the house. For parking, if there is room you can park in the driveway, otherwise you can park on the road in front of the house. 😊

Wilkesboro, Sparta, and Elkin are within 30-40 minutes and offer lots of excellent restaurants, breweries, and fun things to explore. Several local golf courses are close by. Boone and Blowing Rock are about an hour from this location. Cell service is non-existent at the site but available at the main entrance. Wi-Fi is available for an additional charge; hi-speed and reliable for streaming and/or working remote.

Captain's Retreat at Bear Creek located off Highway 64 in Mocksville! 4.5 acres of fully fenced (woven mesh wire and post/rail 5.5ft to 6ft high) with trails, woods, field, and plenty of room to run and explore! Open the front gate and drive into the secure parking area. ***CLOSE AND LATCH THE GATE BEHIND YOU BEFORE GETTING YOUR DOGS OUT OF THE CAR!*** Walk through gate into the space from the secure parking area. This area has wooded trails as well as cleared areas. Densely wooded areas and thickets all around. TICK PREVENTION IS A MUST! There are no pesticides or herbicides used here. Only natural horticulture vingear for spot weed control. This area is located beside Bear Creek and when the creek is high or after a good rain IT WILL BE MUDDY on the right side of the property! Dry creekbed located across the back of the property. **The Creek is NOT accessible from the fenced property** -Water hose on site for use. Dog shower/bath area to the right of the shed with dog wash hose attached, shampoo, and wash shammy. Or you may bring your own bath supplies! Feel free to give your dog a shower/bath! ***Just added dog pool*** For use at no extra charge! Fill up/use if you'd like! (It's been stored for the fall/winter...but if you would like to use it...please let me know at time of booking) -Dog water bowl, dog brush, toys, treats, human and dog tick spray provided. All located in large deck box inside the gate. -Bring doggy towels in case of mud or bathing! -Porch swing and seating areas with a shed deck, gas grill, picnic table and hammock at the top of the property. -Chair/table area at the bottom of rock trail.
