Please ensure your dog is up to date on vaccinations and you clean up after your pet. There are poop bags in the blue container. Feel free to drop it in the garbage bin by the garage door on your way out. There is a faucet on that side of the house that can be used for water. Be aware! There are 2 small gaps that dogs under 10Lbs could fit under!

Maplewood Farm Dog Retreat | 5-Acre Nature Escape

Welcome to Maplewood Farm Dog Retreat -- a peaceful 5-acre nature escape in south Maplewood near Battle Creek, just minutes from I-94 & McKnight. This is still undeveloped farmland tucked into the suburbs, with rolling hills, mature trees, wooded trails, open field space, wildlife sightings and scents (ton of bunnies!), and a very different feel from a typical backyard spot. Dogs get room to run, sniff, explore, and decompress away from crowded dog parks. For history buffs, the property also has the only standing barn in Maplewood, built in 1896, still in its original form and in use. It’s also an escape for hoomans -- a quiet place to breathe, be alone with nature, bring family for a simple picnic, or just sit under the trees while your pup explores. Peaceful and private, but still only minutes from St. Paul. Think of it as a little respite from busy life. There’s even an apple tree, which adds to the old farm feel. You can book this spot two ways: Quick 30-min visits are great for dogs who just need to burn energy fast. The fenced play area is easy to access near the street, and parking is right next to the gate, so it’s quick to get in, let your pup run, play fetch, do zoomies, and head out. For 30-min visits, please use the fenced play area only. Water play is not included, and I usually won’t come out to greet you so you can make the most of your time. For the full Maplewood Farm experience, I recommend booking 1-2 hours. That gives you time to enjoy the fenced play area plus a slower long-leash walk around the block-long property, full of wildlife scents, wooded trails, scenic views, open field space, nooks and crannies, and peaceful places to take in nature. The main fenced play area is approx. 60 ft x 100 ft and is great for off-leash play, fetch, zoomies, tug with the spring pole, and burning off energy. For longer visits, there is also a self-serve water-play area with a splash pad and overhead sprinkler/mister, plus a sprayer if you want to rinse or bathe your pup on the grass. For longer visits, a good route usually starts in the fenced area, then continues through the back gate into the wooded trail system. You can loop toward the house and barn (you may hear my dogs bark), continue through the mature forest trail, use the runner trolley system for semi-free roaming, then circle back toward the open field. Signs are posted to help guide you. This is a natural, dog-friendly space, not a suburban yard. Dogs are welcome to explore, climb on log and wood chip piles, chew or pull on tree branches, sniff around, dig in appropriate natural areas, and enjoy the property in whatever way feels safe and appropriate to you. I’m not precious about the landscape here, esp since the property may be developed next year. While it’s still here, I want our furry friends to have it and enjoy it. Foster dogs and dogs with physical or sensory challenges are welcome to visit for a steep discount -- I’d love for them to enjoy this space too, just message me before booking. Since I live and work on-site, the spot is open pretty much anytime, from early morning to late evening, so you can book around your dog’s energy, the weather, or your own schedule. I recently installed LED night lights so pups can still burn energy after sundown, with bug spray/defogger available. (Campfire use available, please msg me.) Night use does not bother me -- the house is set farther back from the play area, so normal dog play is totally fine. Great for pup parents who work odd hours, or anyone who wants a relaxed, undistracted evening visit. Mini Semi-Private Residential Park In Mahtomedi

Enjoy a semi-private small residential park in our backyard! We provide a pooper scooper and trash can located by the short shed on the patio. You can also enjoy any of our backyard play equipment for you or anyone else (supervision is required for those not independent on playground equipment). We do want to make our backyard still available for us if we are home and want or need to work on some outdoor projects, if any of our kids want to play outside, or if our dog (Samoyed) or my dad’s dog (mini American Eskimo) need to go outside. We will do our best to leave you guys alone though, kids included, and hopefully the dogs won’t bark too much. (More dog friendly amenities may be added later if we see a good amount of people wanting to make reservations. We also plan to make the lawn nicer and hope to add more trees and maybe a flower garden to get some more nature.)

This includes our direct neighbors to the north, who we share a chain link fence with. If you are visiting on an evening or weekend, there’s a good chance their dog will be outside also!

Hose and sprinkler available in summer. On occasion you will see rabbits and squirrels running around.

Great spot with room to run, toys, some agility equipment, and seasonal plastic fur kid pool! Fully fenced: 1 side privacy fence, 2 sides chain link, and one side with the house and gate. Added FYIs: - Place bagged poop in the small garbage bin. 🗑️💩 - Please do not allow pups to dig or to enter the small separately fenced garden. 🌱🪏 - If you remember, it helps to throw "fetch" in lots of different directions to spread out the "wear and tear." IF something goes over the fence, do please just let us know (we will contact the neighbor)--**do not** physically step over the fence (it causes fence damage) 🏡 🤳🏻 - "Same day" bookings will probably have the bedtime and morning 💩 from my pups since I routinely only pick up after work during warm months. If you book 24+ hours in advance I can squeeze in an extra poo pickup before work. - *WINTER I pick up weekly, weather-permitting, so might NOT be a great spot for pups who eat poopsicles--you know who you are! 💩 ❄️ 🐶 🍨🍦 limited daylight and full time hospital work hours (I go to work and come home in the dark)
