A Little Taste of The Country

Photos will be updated 9/15/2023. Our property consists of hand-mown trails that run from our home on Old Prairie Lane to the Middle Bosque River. The river is dry and will likely stay dry until late fall. The trails vary in terrain and also in elevation. It is recommended to wear sturdy shoes for hiking. We have 85 forested acres with trails for exploring on this site. If you would like an accompanied tour of the land, please just ask. Otherwise, I will walk you to the trailhead and send you on your way. I will be happy to spend as much time as you like hiking through the woods, or just leave you be. There are two stocked fish ponds onsite, as well as a fishing boat and a paddle boat. Dogs and people are welcome to swim. We are not currently running the two waterfall features. We will likely resume this in the fall. We will happily provide dogs and their humans with toys, snacks, and water. With it being September in Central Texas, please be aware that there are snakes in the woods. There are also flying, biting, stinging insects, and ticks. We haven't had any problems with either when it comes to our dogs. Booking after 7, we run our sprinklers. You may get wet. I can provide towels. We do have a livestock watering container that we use as a swimming pool. I keep it cold. You are welcome to it. It will never say it is safe in nature, but you can navigate it safely. Please text for an immediate response. 254-749-8338.

Shannon’s park is a fun time. It’s a perfect size for your dog to get great exercise. Not too big and not too small. All the toys your dog would enjoy are there.

We had an amazing time exploring this SniffSpot. We knew our younger dog would have fun racing around, but were shocked and overjoyed that our old man dog had such a good time too! It is a great facility and very well maintained. The fence is secure, grass is awesome (no foxtails or tall weeds), and the shade, benches, and portapotty were great additions. We’ll definitely be back!!! Thank you for hosting!

Frequently asked questions about Sniffspot dog beaches listings

Are dog beaches safe?

Public dog beaches can have a number of safety issues like potentially aggressive dogs, disease transmission, and general cleanliness. These risks are increased in off-leash dog parks, especially if park users don't have good voice control of their canine companions, bring dogs in heat onto the dog-friendly beach, or aren't required to have their pets vaccinated before visiting.

Thankfully, these concerns don't apply to private dog parks! Sniffspot private dog beach rentals are much safer than a public off-leash park. With Sniffspot all bookings are just you and dogs you bring with you. We require all dogs to be vaccinated or have equivalent titers to keep each dog beach clean. And every Sniffspot location is vetted and reviewed by guests — so you can find the perfect place for you and your dog based on firsthand accounts from fellow pet owners. 93% of reviews on Sniffspot visits are 5 stars!

If you're worried about your dog around the water itself at a beach park, you can keep safety your top priority when visiting with your furry friend by: Knowing water safety guidelines, always supervising dogs during water activities, learning canine CPR, making sure you know the signs of heatstroke or overexertion, looking for a location with plenty of shade, and considering private swimming lessons or individual swim sessions at a canine swimming facility first if you're worried about how your pup will do in a dedicated water park area. You can learn more about canine swimming safety here!

Are dogs born knowing how to swim?

While dogs are often thought of as natural swimmers, they are not necessarily born with the ability to swim. Like humans, some dogs may be more naturally inclined to swim due to their breed or genetics — but most dogs need to become more comfortable in the water through exposure and training.

It is important to introduce your dog to water slowly and safely. It is also important to never leave your dog unattended around bodies of water. Even strong swimmers can tire quickly or get into trouble without warning.

How can I find dog beaches near me?

You can browse all of our dog beaches at the top of this page by using the park locator. You can also filter results by size, fencing, amenities, and more!

How do I know if a dog beach works for my dog?

Start by applying basic filters, such as fencing and distractions, to find a Sniffspot that seems like a good fit for your dog. If your dog is reactive to other dogs, for example, you can visit one of our dog beaches where there are no dogs audible or visible nearby. If you're still working on your pup's recall, you can look for a beach that's fenced in or on the smaller side.

Make sure to review the amenities of the spot, too, to see what kind of water features and other extras are offered. Some Sniffspot beaches offer everything from water fountains to wash stations to waste bags to adjacent nature trails and more! Others are smaller and simpler, keeping the focus on spending time together rather than extra park amenities. There's sure to be a spot that's right for you.

We recommend reading reviews and reaching out to the host with any questions you have. Many of our dog beaches are open from sunrise to sunset, but each listing will confirm their hours when you go to book your reservation.

What are the requirements to bring my dog to a Sniffspot beach?

We require that all dogs have basic vaccinations or equivalent titers. It's a good idea to keep your pet's vaccination records up to date. We do not permit private dog park use by pregnant dogs or pets with a bite history — and we require that pet parent guests sign our waiver and agree to follow our safety rules before bringing their furry friend to a Sniffspot dog park, such as staying within the designated off-leash area and only disposing of your pup's poop in designated waste receptacles. Additionally, we recommend following our water safety guidelines.

Each park location also has their own set of rules that guests need to follow, such as limiting excessive barking and otherwise ensuring respectful canine behavior.

Will there be other dogs at the Sniffspot beach at the same time as me?

No, there will not. Your rental is private, not a public county park! You will have your reserved Sniffspot all to yourself: a safe environment just for you and your furry friend to enjoy.

Sniffspot only allows one booking at a time. Any host dogs are required to be kept away from the spot during visits. We also enforce 30 minute time buffers between bookings to make sure you don't run into any surprises.

How much do Sniffspot dog beaches cost?

Each host sets their own price, so you can check the price on the specific Sniffspot beach listing. Most are between $5 - $15 per dog per hour.

Can I have an event or party at a Sniffspot dog beach?

If you are planning an amazing dog beach party, each Sniffspot beach has their own rules regarding special events. Many beaches allow doggie birthday parties, training sessions, and other events.

Event organizers need to be responsible for their guests and should coordinate with the host ahead of time regarding their party.
