Atlas Ad Astra Dog Park & Paths

Partially Fenced
5 acres

Matthew and Leigh Ann own Atlas Ad Astra Adventure Resort, a campground and RV park on the site of a decommissioned Atlas F Missile Silo. Our 24-acre property is rural, but only a couple of miles off I-70 in the heart of Kansas. Along with tent camping and RV Parking, we also give Historical Silo Tours daily at 8:30am and 5:30pm (must be booked in advance). We are located in the midst of a windfarm, with large turbines in the not too far distance, but not directly our property. We do live on-site with our 2 dogs: Buddy, a tri-color Border Collie/Aussie; and Bing, a German Short-haired Pointer. They are both friendly seniors that get along well with other friendly dogs. The dog park area is situated on a section of the land, which is a large field of more than 5 acres. Although our land is not fenced everywhere, it is bounded by cropland and/or pasture on all sides. Dogs with good recall can easily hike with you on the mowed perimeter paths or enjoy bounding around in the tall grasses. There is about mile of mowed pathways around the perimeter of the entire property. The views are beautiful, especially at sunset! Our neighbors have cattle, which can be close to a portion of the perimeter trail. There are a few areas on the grounds that are under construction, but it is easy to avoid these areas with your dogs. Dogs are able to be off leash, anywhere on our site as long as they have good recall, are well mannered, and are friendly toward other dogs and people in general. Our park is not a good fit for sensitive, reactive or aggressive dogs. Please note that we cannot ensure you will be the only ones on the entire property at any given time, as our campers may also have dogs and kids on the property. However, we do have a designated parking area for Sniffspot close to the trail and you will have at least part of the dog zone to yourself during your allotted time. If you are in the common campground and RV areas, we ask you to leash your dog if it is not well behaved/trained. Please be courteous and conscious of your pet(s) and their interactions at all times. You are also welcome to bring a picnic lunch or to take the Property Guided Tour while you are here. Although we do love them, we do not allow dogs on the Historical Silo Tour, so they will need to be in a vehicle, crated, or accompanied someone else during the tour.

Frequently asked questions about Westfall dog hiking trails

What amenities do Westfall dog hiking trails typically include?

Westfall dog hiking trails feature amenities designed for natural exploration and varied terrain: woods, hiking trail and scenic views, secure fencing options, water stations, waste disposal, and often extras like toys, shade structures, or parking. Unlike public parks with generic setups, Westfall hosts customize their spaces. Browse 1 listings to compare—from bare essentials to luxury amenities perfect for your dog's needs.

Can I find dog hiking trails in Westfall with water access?

Many Westfall dog hiking trails include water features! Filter by amenities to find swimming pools, natural ponds, or water play areas. Water is perfect for hot Westfall days, water-loving breeds, or low-impact exercise for seniors and disabled dogs. Each listing specifies water type, depth, and safety features. Some Westfall hosts provide life vests or shallow options for nervous swimmers.

How clean are private dog hiking trails in Westfall compared to public parks?

Significantly cleaner. Public dog parks in Westfall see dozens of dogs daily with sporadic city maintenance. Private dog hiking trails have dedicated hosts who maintain their own spaces—cleanliness directly affects their reviews and bookings. Many Westfall hosts provide fresh poop bags, sanitized water stations, and regular grounds cleaning. With only one booking at a time, waste accumulation is minimal.

Can I book Westfall dog hiking trails on short notice?

Usually yes! Many Westfall dog hiking trails offer same-day or next-day availability with instant booking. Unlike public parks that might be crowded unpredictably, Westfall private dog hiking trails let you reserve exactly when needed: early morning before work, midday breaks, evening exercise. Real-time availability shows on each listing—perfect for last-minute training or when routines get disrupted.

What's the best time to visit dog hiking trails in Westfall?

Any time works since bookings are private! Unlike public dog parks in Westfall that are crowded during peak hours (mornings, evenings, weekends), you don't worry about timing. Book when it fits YOUR schedule—midday when it's quiet, dawn for cool weather, late evening for convenience. Many Westfall dog hiking trails have lighting for after-dark visits. This flexibility is perfect for shift workers or dogs with special needs.

Do Westfall dog hiking trails allow multiple dogs?

Yes! Most Westfall dog hiking trails welcome multiple dogs from the same household. Some hosts set limits (check listings), but generally you can bring your whole pack. This is perfect for multi-dog households in Westfall where some dogs are selective—they can play together privately without outside interference. Great for sibling bonding or families with mixed ages/temperaments.

Can I use Westfall dog hiking trails for special events?

Many Westfall dog hiking trails welcome doggy birthday parties, training workshops, breed meetups, or group playdates. Private bookings mean your event won't be interrupted. Coordinate with Westfall hosts about capacity, amenities (parking, shade, water), and any restrictions. Some even provide party extras. Check individual Westfall dog hiking trail listings for event policies.

How do Westfall dog hiking trails accommodate dogs with special needs?

Westfall dog hiking trails are excellent for special needs dogs because you can filter for specific requirements: flat terrain for mobility issues, secure fencing for blind/deaf dogs, quiet locations for anxious dogs, small spaces for seniors, or maximum privacy for reactive dogs. Read reviews from other Westfall special-needs dog owners, and contact hosts with questions. The private setting means you can adapt the experience to your dog's unique requirements.
