Paws and Smile Dog Park In Shawnee

We moved back to the KC area earlier this year and are in the process of turning our new home into a doggy wonderland. Our team of three runs a full time pet care company including doggy daycare, boarding, and drop in visits for all sorts of animal species. As pet care lovers and trainers, we understand the importance of having a private, secure space to work or be with your dog for whatever reason. Our nearly 3 acre backyard is fully fenced, at least our 5 lb chihuahua, daycare dogs, and dozens of sniffspotters have yet to find a way out. While we try our best to maintain our yard, sometimes the grass gets high or there are fallen branches. If grass length is a deal breaker, just ask! We'll let you know if it's gotten high or is freshly mowed. There are two large burn piles we inherited when we moved in. There is also a detached garage with an old chicken coop with a hole in the door in the middle of the yard. We're aware the hole is there, we don't have immediate plans to fix it, and we don't mind if your dog wanders into it. The yard backs up to the highway. It can get a little loud, but it's pretty much white noise to us and our dogs. Aside from the highway, it's generally a quiet spot. There's a large circle drive at the entrance of our property. You can either roll open the large gate and park behind the fence or you can park by the fence and swing open the smaller gate to walk in. Under the carport is a shelf with poo bags, our business cards, grooming wipes, a grooming towel, dog water bowls, and usually some extra tennis balls. Let me me know if anything is missing! There's a trash can by the carport, as well as a waste station halfway down the yard (trash can and additional poo bags). The hose is also by the carport and can be used to fill water bowls or play with. We don't have lighting in the backyard, but can turn on the lights under the carport, should you ever desire. Feel free to move around chairs or table, use the swing, or lay in the hammock. When Sniffspotters are visiting, we keep our dogs inside and we do our best to remain out of view. However, we do have dogs dropped off and picked up throughout the day. Our handoffs occur at our front door and we try our best to not be seen by you or your dogs, but you could see us if you're in the front part of the yard.

Adam’s 1 Acre Fully Fenced In/Secure/Private/Out of the city Dog Park

I live on 4.5 acres and have about 1 acre fully fenced off. You and your pup or pups will be away from other houses and in the country. No city shenanigans. No other animals loose on the property and you have it all to yourself. I have a pup pool and it is K9 friendly, safe, and is 1 foot deep. Just added an automatic tennis ball launcher for the pups and available upon request. Entrance would be down road on Cedar Niles, then left into my driveway that is north of my external shop, and the drive leads you straight to my fenced off area (see map in the photo section). I have signage to guide you in. You can park outside of the 10-foot main gate and walk into my Sniff Spot. Or you can open the main gain, drive in, close the gate, and then let your pup or pups out. Property including entrance to fenced off area monitored and recorded by security cameras (They will alert me when you arrive and leave). As you can see with the pictures, I have a main open play area and then trails going through the thicker/overgrown grass. There is a 55g freshwater barrel and a drink tub for your pup right inside the entry and you can't miss it when you walk in. I have an umbrella set up to get you out of the sun (You can wind it up and down) and chairs to relax on while the pup or pups play. I have a TON of complimentary toys provided and LOTS of tennis balls for you pup or pups if you don’t have any (Please just put them all back). Dog poop baggies provided and at three different areas when you walk in. Trash bucket on-site to throw away dog poop and trash to keep the area clean. I have 150ft of patio lighting and an LED flood light around the main area of the Sniff Spot. The lights are bright and now you can book late evening into sundown, even night visits if you choose. I am in a profession where I can work nights and sleep during the day. My Sniff Spot is open 24/7 and I also cater to the day sleepers and night awake folks. You can book at 2:00am if you choose. The main area of the Sniff Spot is fully lit with the hung patio lights. Pictures are posted. Please clean up after yourself and leave everything as it was. This is very important for the next guests, my Sniff Spot stays VERY busy, and I at times I don't have time to inspect my SS before the next bookings. Don’t hesitate to contact to let me know anything to make your experience at my SS better! Click the YouTube link below for actual drone footage of my Sniff Spot (Recorded 09/07/2022): My FaceBook page is complete and live. Please leave comments on your visits, pictures of your pups having a blast, or simply post anything related to my Sniff Spot:

Melissa and her team are always so friendly and professional. Better yet, they are a business that KNOWS dogs. Our private time at Melissa’s indoor/outdoor play area was just what my two reactive pups needed.

Our first time using a sniff spot and we couldn't be happier! Clean and functional area with dogs safety and comfort in mind. Such a great outlet for our reactive old girl, and our big guy who needs a consistent environment. Happy to visit again and a great price!

Clean and easy to access dog park! Our dogs had a great time on all the agility equipment. They loved sniffing around. Occasionally you could hear another dog bark inside the building but that did not bother my dogs. We’ll definitely be back!

Nice and clean play area with play equipment. While the lot is large, the play area itself is not 1 acre.

Great space! Double entry to avoid escapees, lots of things for the dogs to climb on or run around. The host was easy to communicate with and made sure we had everything we needed. The perfect spot for puppy play dates. We will be returning!!

My dogs had so much fun and were exhausted after 20 minutes! We didn’t come into contact with anyone or any other dogs. Completely gated off and clean area. Perfect place to just let them run and smell.
Daelyn W.
June 2023
My dog Oliver is a little aggressive towards other dogs and he LOVED this place. Very secure. Two gates. I went at 6-7pm and only saw one dog and it wasn’t a big issue since you can’t see all that well through the fence. Definitely going to go back!

Stopped in on a cross country drive from NC to CO to give our girls a chance to stretch their legs. It was very safe and beautifully clean, if we lived here we would get a membership for sure!

May 2023
Very clean and fun! There was a bucket of water for the dogs as well as some toys! I wish it wasn’t so far away, but we will definitely be back! There are 2 different enclosed areas with some wood agility structures which is nice if you want to separate dogs for any reason!

Scout had fun! She’s used to agility equipment with some grip so the all wood took some getting used to but by the end, she was a pro!

FAQ about our Olathe dog parks

Are dog parks good for dogs?
It is important for dogs to have off leash exercise to sniff and run. But the free and open nature of public dog parks has drawbacks. There could be aggressive dogs, disease transmission and cleanliness issues. For this reason, many dog behaviorists discourage visiting public dog parks and recommend Sniffspot's private dog parks. Sniffspot private dog parks only allow one guest to book at a time and are not open to the public, which solves many of these issues.
Are dog parks safe?
While public dog parks have a number of safety issues, such as aggressive dogs, disease transmission and general cleanliness, Sniffspot dog parks much safer than public dog parks. With Sniffspot all bookings are private for just you and dogs you bring with you and we require all dogs to be vaccinated (or have equivalent titers). All Sniffspot locations are vetted and reviewed by guests so you can find the perfect place for you and your dog. 0% of reviews on Sniffspot visits in the Olathe area are 5 stars.
How do I know if a dog park works for my dog?
You can filter Sniffspot dog parks by fencing and distractions. If your dog doesn't have good recall, you can visit one of our 80 fully fenced dog parks in the area. If your dog is reactive to other dogs, you can visit one of our 12 off leash areas where there are no dogs audible or visible nearby.
