60 acres of upstate New York forest just for you!

Greetings! Our land is a mix of flat grass (think lawn), some long/short pasture, and the majority being heavy wooded forest area. You will enjoy some rustic logging trails up there (but please don’t expect a perfect state park-type path). The terrain can be steep to climb to the top depending on your skill level. Once you are at the “top” of the hill, there is “flat” land that you can hike (I’ve even jogged up there -slowly!). For those of you that like a challenge, besides our two pathways up the hill, we offer a very steep side of the hill to climb. One of the photos shows water – that is the case if there is a heavy rain (likely September/October) but please know we don’t always have a running stream. We do offer a hose and bucket to rinse your dog’s feet at the end of the stay. The photos with the leaves are from last year – this is what the property will [hopefully] look like in September/October. November starts getting cold. December will bring snow with some plowed areas. For accessibility: if you use a wheelchair, you can drive your car onto the land and use the flat part of the land if you can access grassy lawn. If there is interest, I can offer to take your dog up the hill to run around for a nominal fee. We are new to this so please ask questions. Consider this spot “forever wild” woods. It is incredibly calm and peaceful up on the hill. You can quietly listen to the woods or bring a radio and sing to your dog loudly. If you are not a climber, even playing fetch behind the barn is nice. Note: inside the barn is off limits. This is a working property and there are tools, tractors, and such that are not good for any animals. Please Remember: there are no fences and we have a state highway in front of our property. All the area that you would use would be set back an appropriate distance, but I want to be clear for everyone sake that there are no fences. If your dog does not come back when called, perhaps this spot isn’t the best for any off-leash activity. Wild Animals: There are deer in the woods (and some dogs love to chase deer!) so please keep that in mind as well. We have also seen rabbits and an occasional skunk, raccoon, fox, groundhogs, and once even a porcupine. We hear coyote sometimes but I have not seen any on our land. Upstate New York has been known to house bobcats, mountain lions, and bears among others, but I have yet to see them on our land as well. We do see bald eagles on occasion.

Dana’s property is perfect for any dog! There’s long grass and woods for the squirrel chasers, fish and frogs for the water observers, CLEAN pond for the swimmers (mud/sandy bottom but it’s not sticky or mucky, my dogs came perfectly clean which was such a bonus), and plenty of land for the ball fetchers. It was such a nice place to relax. There’s plenty of shade too right near the pond with chairs. There’s also a floating dock which could be a lot of fun if you and your dog like to jump into the water. We went at 10a and it was not buggy at all. We will definitely be going again! Thank you Dana for offering your property to those who don’t always trust dog parks and for those who have energetic dogs who need to run off leash to actually get some energy out. We appreciate it!

We had an amazing time on Saturday! We spent most of our 2 hours at the pond because Beau loved to swim and is learning to gain more confidence in the water. We’re excited for our next visit to explore more of the acreage as Lulu is a big sniffer and no doubt will love all the land to explore!

We had the best day visiting this beautiful property! Our dogs loved the large pond and the large grassy area for them to run and explore freely. Dana (the property owner) is extremely kind and welcoming, and made us feel right at home. We can’t wait to visit again!

We did some worthwhile training and Melt had fun sniffing and retrieving - the training consisted of some Nose Work around the Adirondack chairs and under the rocks at that end of the pond and some field training running down the hill and into the pond. The geese put up with us. I got to meet the very nice neighbors when Melt was in the van and I was setting up. A totally great place!

Dana's property is beautiful! Impeccably-maintained property and pond. Radar enjoyed jumping from the shore onto the floating dock and then out to retrieve her toy. We had a great time and will definitely be back before summer is over! Thank you!

Beautiful location, friendly host. Took us about 30min to walk the trail, might take less time if you're an athletic person. Definitely recommend.

This was just perfect! Wonderful views, nice gently uphill road to hike, so much to to love. We will definitely be back! The rain and fog were magical, we saw little red salamanders, and it was just a bit of heaven.

WOW!! That is all I can say! This place has breathtaking views and so much space to explore for the dogs. My pup looooved swimming in the little pond and sprinting back and forth up the hilly trail, which wore him out completely. It was a wonderful experience and we will be back again soon. Nancy, the host, was so lovely to chat with and very helpful.

We had an excellent time here this morning!! The cut lanes were mowed short enough for me to not be soaked with morning dew but still left long enough that I could see many little insects and creatures scurrying around which makes me happy. We got to see some deer and enjoy the calls of the bullfrogs and overall had a lovely time! Nancy was very communicative and came out to help me find the correct parking location which I appreciated. We will definitely be back next time I am in the area!

We were so surprised to see cute birthday decorations throughout the sniff spot. I casually mentioned that we were having a birthday celebration for our dog. :) Stephanie went out of her way to welcome our dog and us. Our dog really enjoyed it. We were able to practice recall and he was able to play with his friend in an open space.

My dog loved running around the grassy areas, exploring the trails and wading in the stream! It was very private and we didn’t see any people or animals during our visit. We had a great time and will definitely be back!

Nice wide open yard, perfect for fetch! Fence is a decent height and we had no fears our little one would get out underneath. Lots of toys, water, first aid kit and other little goodies on the porch for use. Such a nice place to go play.

Great spot! The host left plenty of water and toys for my dog. The spot was much bigger than we expected and the entire fence was closed in by wire mesh. Very clean as well. We will definitely be coming back :)

FAQ about our Chenango Forks dog fields

Are dog fields safe?
If you are looking for an adventure, but also looking for safety, Sniffspot dog fields are a great option. While public dog parks have a number of safety issues, such as aggressive dogs, distracted dog owners, disease transmission and general cleanliness, Sniffspot dog parks are much safer than public dog parks. With Sniffspot all bookings are private space for just you and doggy friends you bring with you and we require all dogs to be vaccinated (or have equivalent titers). Especially for training, privacy is ideal. Contrary to public dog parks, all Sniffspot locations are vetted and reviewed by guests so you can find the perfect place for you and your dog for off leash exercise or outdoor training. 93% of reviews on Sniffspot visits are 5 stars, while public dog parks often do not even have verified reviews. All payment is done securely online by credit card in a few simple clicks.
