David's 50 Acre "Let Them Run Free" Private Dog Park near Abingdon

Unfenced
50 acres

This spot is 50+ acres of open fields and forest, non-residential, with a mountain stream along the western border, and a 1/4 acre farm pond. There are no pets or livestock on the property, so if your dog likes to run free and fast, this is the place for adventure. There are some trails through the woods, seasonal berry picking, a water hydrant with public water, and shelters with an indoor bathroom if needed. The land also hosts our sawmill and lumber kiln as well as a mechanic shop leased to a friend, but most of the land is open for exploration. There is a gravel/dirt road that loops around the property, but is not recommended for low clearance vehicles. Plenty of parking anywhere along the loop. Squirrels and wild rabbits to chase!

Slys Peace Trail

Partially Fenced
10 acres

Located in the foothills, the Slys Peace trail was created for dog stimulation. The trail starts at the lower end of the pasture and follows the creek meandering through a rhododendron forest. Situated at the base of 100 acres of wooded ridge land, the hike offers a wilderness experience customized to your comfort zone. There are multiple trails to accommodate your level of exercise. The full experience will require crossing the creek multiple times and is recommended for those with hiking experience. Trails are easy to follow with multiple exits that lead out to the pasture. This is dog heaven. Let your dog be a dog. To locate the gate entrance watch for the Giant metal horse. His nose points the way. Follow the fenceline a few hundred feet where you will find the gate just before the power line easement. There is now a large Sniff Spot sign securely attached.

Frequently asked questions about Rural Retreat dog hiking trails

What amenities do Rural Retreat dog hiking trails typically include?

Rural Retreat dog hiking trails feature amenities designed for natural exploration and varied terrain: woods, hiking trail and scenic views, secure fencing options, water stations, waste disposal, and often extras like toys, shade structures, or parking. Unlike public parks with generic setups, Rural Retreat hosts customize their spaces. Browse 2 listings to compare—from bare essentials to luxury amenities perfect for your dog's needs.

Can I find dog hiking trails in Rural Retreat with water access?

Many Rural Retreat dog hiking trails include water features! Filter by amenities to find swimming pools, natural ponds, or water play areas. Water is perfect for hot Rural Retreat days, water-loving breeds, or low-impact exercise for seniors and disabled dogs. Each listing specifies water type, depth, and safety features. Some Rural Retreat hosts provide life vests or shallow options for nervous swimmers.

How clean are private dog hiking trails in Rural Retreat compared to public parks?

Significantly cleaner. Public dog parks in Rural Retreat see dozens of dogs daily with sporadic city maintenance. Private dog hiking trails have dedicated hosts who maintain their own spaces—cleanliness directly affects their reviews and bookings. Many Rural Retreat hosts provide fresh poop bags, sanitized water stations, and regular grounds cleaning. With only one booking at a time, waste accumulation is minimal.

Can I book Rural Retreat dog hiking trails on short notice?

Usually yes! Many Rural Retreat dog hiking trails offer same-day or next-day availability with instant booking. Unlike public parks that might be crowded unpredictably, Rural Retreat private dog hiking trails let you reserve exactly when needed: early morning before work, midday breaks, evening exercise. Real-time availability shows on each listing—perfect for last-minute training or when routines get disrupted.

What's the best time to visit dog hiking trails in Rural Retreat?

Any time works since bookings are private! Unlike public dog parks in Rural Retreat that are crowded during peak hours (mornings, evenings, weekends), you don't worry about timing. Book when it fits YOUR schedule—midday when it's quiet, dawn for cool weather, late evening for convenience. Many Rural Retreat dog hiking trails have lighting for after-dark visits. This flexibility is perfect for shift workers or dogs with special needs.

Do Rural Retreat dog hiking trails allow multiple dogs?

Yes! Most Rural Retreat dog hiking trails welcome multiple dogs from the same household. Some hosts set limits (check listings), but generally you can bring your whole pack. This is perfect for multi-dog households in Rural Retreat where some dogs are selective—they can play together privately without outside interference. Great for sibling bonding or families with mixed ages/temperaments.

Can I use Rural Retreat dog hiking trails for special events?

Many Rural Retreat dog hiking trails welcome doggy birthday parties, training workshops, breed meetups, or group playdates. Private bookings mean your event won't be interrupted. Coordinate with Rural Retreat hosts about capacity, amenities (parking, shade, water), and any restrictions. Some even provide party extras. Check individual Rural Retreat dog hiking trail listings for event policies.

How do Rural Retreat dog hiking trails accommodate dogs with special needs?

Rural Retreat dog hiking trails are excellent for special needs dogs because you can filter for specific requirements: flat terrain for mobility issues, secure fencing for blind/deaf dogs, quiet locations for anxious dogs, small spaces for seniors, or maximum privacy for reactive dogs. Read reviews from other Rural Retreat special-needs dog owners, and contact hosts with questions. The private setting means you can adapt the experience to your dog's unique requirements.
