Atlas Ad Astra Dog Park & Paths

Partially Fenced
5 acres

Matthew and Leigh Ann own Atlas Ad Astra Adventure Resort, a campground and RV park on the site of a decommissioned Atlas F Missile Silo. Our 24-acre property is rural, but only a couple of miles off I-70 in the heart of Kansas. Along with tent camping and RV Parking, we also give Historical Silo Tours daily at 8:30am and 5:30pm (must be booked in advance). We are located in the midst of a windfarm, with large turbines in the not too far distance, but not directly our property. We do live on-site with our 2 dogs: Buddy, a tri-color Border Collie/Aussie; and Bing, a German Short-haired Pointer. They are both friendly seniors that get along well with other friendly dogs. The dog park area is situated on a section of the land, which is a large field of more than 5 acres. Although our land is not fenced everywhere, it is bounded by cropland and/or pasture on all sides. Dogs with good recall can easily hike with you on the mowed perimeter paths or enjoy bounding around in the tall grasses. There is about mile of mowed pathways around the perimeter of the entire property. The views are beautiful, especially at sunset! Our neighbors have cattle, which can be close to a portion of the perimeter trail. There are a few areas on the grounds that are under construction, but it is easy to avoid these areas with your dogs. Dogs are able to be off leash, anywhere on our site as long as they have good recall, are well mannered, and are friendly toward other dogs and people in general. Our park is not a good fit for sensitive, reactive or aggressive dogs. Please note that we cannot ensure you will be the only ones on the entire property at any given time, as our campers may also have dogs and kids on the property. However, we do have a designated parking area for Sniffspot close to the trail and you will have at least part of the dog zone to yourself during your allotted time. If you are in the common campground and RV areas, we ask you to leash your dog if it is not well behaved/trained. Please be courteous and conscious of your pet(s) and their interactions at all times. You are also welcome to bring a picnic lunch or to take the Property Guided Tour while you are here. Although we do love them, we do not allow dogs on the Historical Silo Tour, so they will need to be in a vehicle, crated, or accompanied someone else during the tour.

Frequently asked questions about Wilson dog parks

Why are private dog parks better than public ones in Wilson?

Private dog parks in Wilson eliminate the major risks of public facilities: unpredictable dogs, inattentive owners, disease transmission, and chaotic environments that can overwhelm puppies, seniors, small dogs, or reactive pets. Sniffspot's 5 private Wilson locations offer complete privacy, professionally maintained spaces, and flexible scheduling. Whether you have a nervous puppy or a dog-selective adult, private bookings give you control and peace of mind.

How are Wilson Sniffspot locations different from public dog parks?

Wilson Sniffspots offer: (1) Complete privacy with no other dogs during your booking, (2) Controlled environments without aggressive dogs or chaos, (3) Flexible scheduling based on availability, not rigid park hours, (4) Safety for dogs of all temperaments and ages, (5) Vetted and reviewed locations—93% of visits get 5-star reviews. You get all the benefits of off-leash exercise in Wilson without public dog park risks.

Can reactive dogs safely use Wilson dog parks?

Yes, and this is exactly what Sniffspot was designed for! Wilson has 5 private locations where reactive dogs can exercise off-leash without encountering other animals. Since bookings are completely private with 30-minute buffers between visitors, your reactive dog won't face the triggers that make public dog parks impossible. Many Wilson owners of reactive dogs rely on Sniffspot as their only safe exercise option.

What amenities help anxious or reactive dogs in Wilson?

Look for Wilson locations with "fewer dogs seen/heard" to minimize triggers for reactive dogs. Secure fencing prevents escapes during stress. Quiet, spacious properties reduce anxiety. Some Wilson hosts specifically cater to nervous or reactive dogs with extra privacy features. Read reviews to find hosts who understand fearful or reactive dog needs.

How clean are Wilson dog parks?

Unlike public dog parks where cleanliness varies wildly, Sniffspot hosts in Wilson maintain their own spaces and take pride in providing clean environments. All guests must have vaccinated dogs (or titers) to prevent disease transmission. Many Wilson hosts provide poop bags and trash cans. Reviews highlight cleanliness, so you can choose well-maintained locations.

Can I visit Wilson dog parks with multiple dogs?

Yes! Most Wilson Sniffspots welcome multiple dogs from the same household. Some hosts set limits (like 2-3 dogs maximum), which will be noted on the listing. If you have several dogs—especially if some are reactive toward other dogs—Sniffspot's private bookings let them play together safely without outside interference.

Are Wilson dog parks good for senior dogs?

Yes! Wilson Sniffspot locations are excellent for senior dogs who need gentle exercise without the stress of public dog parks. Older dogs can explore at their own pace, rest when needed, and avoid being knocked over by rambunctious puppies or large dogs. Look for Wilson spots with flat terrain, shaded areas, and smaller sizes if your senior has limited mobility.

How do I find dog parks in Wilson for small dogs?

Filter Wilson's 5 locations by "small dog friendly" to find spaces specifically suited for toy breeds and small dogs. These tend to be more intimate, with secure fencing that prevents squeezing through gaps. Some Wilson hosts have separate small dog areas or cater specifically to petite pups who might get overwhelmed at large public dog parks.
