Mission and Vision

The mission of Muddy Paws Rescue is to build and support a thriving community of dog-loving humans dedicated to ending unnecessary euthanasia of companion dogs. We do this through shared learning and education, direct lifesaving, and continuous innovation.

Adoption Policy

At Muddy Paws Rescue we support and practice an open-adoptions process that removes barriers to include adopters from all backgrounds. We practice a conversation-based approach to our adoption process, which encourages a discussion between the organization and the adopter, and cultivates trusting, long-lasting relationships during all stages of the process. We believe that the open adoptions process facilitates successful matches and ultimately maximizes lifesaving.

"Muddy Paws Rescue NYC saved my precious girl twice! That's right, 2x. The day we brought her home, she nervously bolted. Within minutes of me notifying staff, they had me linked up to MPR's leader, Rachel. They went above & beyond in support, even coming to NJ in order to help us in our search & rescue efforts. After reaching out to professional trappers, etc... MPR staff & volunteers were our only hope. After 3.5 days, Rachel & one of our neighbors were able to get Daisy back to our home safely, where she has been ever since. That was 2 years ago & since then, I have begun to foster pups that need a quieter, out of city stay. They also managed to save several of Daisy's puppies that came into the rescues foster care, suffering with parvo! We are our own little community & none of that would be possible without Muddy Paws phenomenal work in the dog rescue field!"

"I began following Muddy Paws in 2018 on social media, and was so impressed with their dedication to placing dogs in loving homes that I began saving money to eventually adopt my own pup from them. In the meantime, I became a participating artist in their annual Pawtrait for Good fundraiser, which is one of the most fun fundraising events I've ever seen from a dog rescue. Fast forward to 2022 and I was finally in a position to bring home my very own pup. The entire process of the screening phone call to the actual adoption event was seamless, and all of the staff and volunteers were kind, helpful, and so clearly dedicated to matching dogs with the right family. My pup Maní (formerly Maddox) is now about to turn two and he is the joy of my life, and it's all thanks to Muddy Paws! I'm forever grateful they chose to pull him out of a shelter so that I could meet him, and that they continue doing this for an incredible amount of dogs every year."

"Muddy Paws has made such a positive impact on my life since moving to NYC. Not only do they have some of the sweetest pups, but also the nicest people who work and volunteer there! The amount of lives muddy paws is able to help through foster based adoption has made me so confident in their mission. They truly have made the most positive impact on the city and in my neighborhood!"

"In 2014 I rescued Xero a senior old dog on his "to be destroyed" day at Animal Care and Control. Four years later (2018) I saw a nine year old dog named Chuggy on the ACC website that looked and sounded just like my Xero. I was afraid they were going to put him on the euthanasian list just for being old. When I called the shelter Chuggy was already gone.... not to the kill list, but to Muddy Paws Rescue! What a difference those few years made. Thanks to the establishment of Muddy Paws in 2015, good boys like Chuggy and my Xero would never again be on a to be destroyed list. Muddy Paws Rescue gives seniors the second they deserve. I hope you can support Muddy Paws and all the puppies, dogs, and seniors they rescue and help to find their forever homes. Thank you!"

How to Become a Dog Trainer

44.5 percent of all American households share life with a canine companion. Pet professionals like dog trainers, veterinarians, and veterinary behaviorists are more important than ever as our modern society becomes increasingly difficult for four-legged friends to navigate—dog reactivity, anxiety, and general stress from lack of proper enrichment are on the rise in domestic dogs.

The Best Fenced Dog Parks in the United States

In our modern, human-centric world, it can be hard to find spaces for your pup to safely play off leash—especially if they’re a flight risk. Dogs who might run off after interesting smells, prey, or simply because they feel the whim can be a hazard in unfenced areas. That’s why we’ve put together a list of some of the best securely fenced dog parks throughout the United States!

Thousand Oaks, California has been a safe haven for Sniffspot host, Jen, since childhood. Having grown up in busy Santa Barbara, Jen, an introvert from an early age, would seek out solitude and serenity away from tourists attractions and droves of people visiting from elsewhere. “My grandparents own 60 acres about a 30 minute drive from here, and I grew up spending every summer and every holiday visiting them on the ranch,” Jen explained. “In Santa Barbara, we wouldn't go to the beach on the weekend because that's where everybody was, so you'd find places off the beaten path where the tourists weren't. For me, the ranch was just my happy place.”
