55My dog Amari had so much fun walking around and sniffing on this property. There was lots to look at and smell for my boy. There was fresh water, shade, and so many cool places to relax. We will be coming back, plus it is so close to us.

55Always a fun Sniffspot. Marley is recovering from an injury, so nice to know we roam and relax freely in the morning sun, with plenty of resting spots and shade.Hattie M.

55Our visit this morning was awesome! We all loved this little paradise of woods and stream. Shade and a lack of stickery weeds are such precious commodities this time of year so this is a great place to walk and explore on a hot valley day. There are benches, seating, and trash cans scattered generously throughout and it was clean and well kept. We will definitely be back! Thank you Robert!Natalie K.

55This was a nice private area to let the dogs run off leash. Our dog loved the pond and in sure he tied himself out chasing the dragonflies by the water. I liked how there were many places to sit and lots of water provided for the dogs. I will definitely be back!Sally B.

55Great spot to walk around peacefully without other dogs nearby. Mostly shady, backs up to a few houses but saw no other dogs today. Creek area and pond were low or dry with some muddy spots that could be messy if your dogs like to play in puddles but no problem for us as we keep our dogs on long lines. Yes dogs picked up a few late summer weed seeds but no major issue as most of the property is mowed. They pick up more when we walk the trail by the American river. Karla H.

55has the best time with our dog + our friends dog!! highlight was the mini creek where my dog had so much fun playing in water for the first time
also lots of space where we felt comfortable enough to let both dogs off leash and our dogs aren’t extremely trained with recall - great space to test it out
only thing to note was how many little spiky seed ball things can be stuck in a longer dogs hair - but they were small and not harmful just annoying and were easy to remove after running my hands over her fur
overall would totally return here!!Stefani H.

55A good spot to let your dog run. I have a Vizsla and she likes to run and this spot has large open areas to do that. Lots of interesting spots to explore. I highly recommend it.Margaret H.

55Wow! My husband and I are super happy with the spot. We reserved an hour for our two dogs, the directions were spot on and we felt it was an accurate description of the location.
We looped the property enough to track 2 miles towards our daily steps. There was plenty of shade even with it being hot out today. So grateful to find a Sniffspot large enough for us to walk around with our dogs, so it was more of a family activity. I don’t want to just sit. Biggest win is it being 20 minutes from where we live.Christina L.

55Wonderful! My dog is a maniac and she had the absolute best time chasing the poor ducks through the creek. Still enough water for her to swim in spots. The property is huge and spread out in a way that made it feel as if we were on a short hike. Some grassy areas and lots of places to sit and relax or play fetch.Loretta P.

55What a gem! Quiet with room to roam. This was out first visit. Next time we'll plan a bit more: book for 2 hours, pack a lunch, and bring a friend! Plenty of shade and seating.
We did see poison oak on site, so be sure to bring supplies if you are allergic.April M.

55This was our first visit to this particular Sniffpot and it was great! The host was very responsive and provided us with an exact GPS address for where to park and enter. At this time the creek water is low, but my dog was still able to climb down to cool off. We’d love to come back after there’s been some recent rain. Although the front half of the property isn’t fenced, most of the back half seems to be. Also, the creek runs along the front of the property providing some separation from the public/street/cars. My dog can be a bit reactive at times but has decent recall. We were able to find a few spots out of view from that street where I felt comfortable letting him run off leash. We appreciate that the majority of the property is mowed and maintained. There were several areas with chairs and tables and garbage cans throughout the property. It was also easy to find some clean water the host left out, water bowl, and poop bags. We will definitely be back!
I did want to note that when we first arrived we did see one person walking through the property, but when they saw us they quickly apologized and left. But since there are many signs throughout the area stating it’s private property, I don’t think this is a typical occurrence. With any Sniffpot, it’s always good to take a quick look over the place before letting your dog off leash.

55My dog enjoyed running around and smelling everything. The creek was running higher after some rain earlier in the week so we got our feet wet crossing onto the main part of the property.Patrick S.

Check individual Citrus Heights dog hiking trail listings for event policies.
How do Citrus Heights dog hiking trails accommodate dogs with special needs?
Citrus Heights dog hiking trails are excellent for special needs dogs because you can filter for specific requirements: flat terrain for mobility issues, secure fencing for blind/deaf dogs, quiet locations for anxious dogs, small spaces for seniors, or maximum privacy for reactive dogs. Read reviews from other Citrus Heights special-needs dog owners, and contact hosts with questions. The private setting means you can adapt the experience to your dog's unique requirements.
