55Our dogs had the time of their life swimming in the lake! I was worried we wouldn’t be able to get our Shepherd out because he was having so much fun. You have to walk through some tall grass/weeds and uneven footing to get to the lake, so plan appropriately. Lizzy L.

55Such an awesome spot!! My dogs absolutely loved it. Could hardly keep them out of the water. Road is a bit rough, so as long as you drive slow getting in it's so so worth it. I wish I would have brought my book and snagged a few more hours. We'll 100% be back! Lyndsay D.

55I still can’t believe a place like this exists. This ranch is огромous—600 acres of open space—and it feels like you have the whole world to yourself.
The drive up is pretty steep, but once you get to the top, the view is absolutely stunning and totally worth it.
Just a heads up: some areas are a bit rugged with tall grass, and there are quite a few ticks, so make sure to check yourself and your dogs before leaving.
Overall, such a unique and beautiful spot—we’ll definitely be back!Megumi C.

55Beautiful ranch! It was my first time visiting, and Karalee was very helpful and welcoming! My parents, doggie, and I really enjoyed the view and got in a good workout since the trail has some great inclines!
I did go during tick season, but Karalee was able to warn me ahead of time which I’m very appreciative of bc we were prepared to deal with them and came out unscathed lolCJ M.

55Our doggos had a great time running free and chasing each other! Our puppy is still getting comfortable swimming so the lake was great exposure, just needing a lot of redirecting from eating cow poo! The hosts were extremely responsive and helpful pointing us in the right direction towards the spot. Jason a.

55We visited Stage Guich Ranch with Kooma 🐾
The property is huge, with open space and even a lake.
Jake, the owner, was incredibly friendly and made us feel welcome right away.
This is a great spot for dogs that love to run.

55We brought our two dogs and they had an absolute blast exploring the wide open pastures. For scent-driven, high-energy dogs like ours, the amount of space to roam freely was a dream.
Some things to note:
-the massive property is very open with limited shade except near the lake so wear sunscreen/hat and bring a lot of water for yourself and the dogs.
-There are friendly cows that ran over to us out of curiosity. One of my dogs was equally curious but since she has not interacted with livestock, I recalled her. My other dog was leashed when we were close to the cows just in case since he has a high prey drive.
-With any place with tall grass: beware of ticks. I found about 10 ticks between our two dogs.
-Gate and entry notes for fearful dogs: There were some mini bikes and kids’ items in the area to get to the gate. My dogs are scared of bikes for some reason. There’s also a spiky plant right by the entrance that dogs may back into if they’re nervous about gate noise. The latch is a small D-ring with a string loop, which was tricky to open with two dogs if they are scared and pulling trying to get away. If your dogs are easily startled, plan for a slower entry and exit. My were spooked going in and out so took a couple minutes for them to shake it off and have a blast.
A wonderful spot for dogs who love open space and exploration. Come prepared and you’ll have a great time. A rare gem and would highly recommend! Esther C.

55We had such a great experience here! The instructions for accessing the property were super easy to follow, which made everything smooth right from the start.
The setting is absolutely stunning—gorgeous green rolling hills leading down to the lake, with beautiful eucalyptus trees that make it feel peaceful and expansive. I loved wandering all around the fields and just taking it all in.
Hazel had the best day ever—she splashed in the water, rolled in the mud, and fully lived her best life. It was so fun to watch her enjoy herself without any restrictions.
I 100% recommend adding the bathing package. It made the whole experience completely stress-free knowing she could get as messy as she wanted, and I could easily clean her up afterward.

55Wow! A+ spot! My dog had an AMAZING time. Lovely family, we had a little hiccup with our messages but managed to sort it and they were super nice and welcoming overall. At the lake, we kept trying to get Harley to take a little break but no, back in the water she goes. She might as well have been in heaven. Easy to find, short hike to the water but lots of space to wander if you want. Cows in the field and you might see the owners dogs (behind a fence) so heads up for that, lots of cow pies and mud so wear some comfy, dirty shoes, bring lots of towels and a bottle of water to rinse muddy paws, don’t wear a dress just for cuteness like my friend did, you in the boonies, not Central Park. You will have a satisfied, tired dog at the end of your hour here and then I recommend popping to one of the tons of amazing dog friendly restaurants in Petaluma or Sebastopol for some food and drink=good day, happy doggo, happy hooman. Worth every penny, would recommend 10 outta 10Maggie C.

55The best Sniffspot experience we've ever had! My girl, Freyja is a city girl and doesn't get to experience the freedome if running openly often. Freyja has been in the Bay on the shore before but has never swam and OMG she LOVED it. She didn't want to leave 😂 The directions given were easy to follow and the communication and was great! The walk to the lake is so beautiful. We will definitely be frequent flyers of this beautiful place. Christina R.

Frequently asked questions about Petaluma dog hiking trails
Why are private dog hiking trails better than public dog parks in Petaluma?
Private dog hiking trails in Petaluma eliminate major public park risks: unpredictable dog encounters that scare puppies, aggressive dogs that trigger reactive behavior, chaotic crowds that overwhelm seniors or small dogs, and disease transmission from dozens of unknown dogs. Petaluma's 5 private dog hiking trails offer complete privacy, professionally maintained cleanliness, and controlled environments. Whether you have a fearful puppy, a reactive adult, a fragile senior, or simply want peace of mind, private bookings give you control.
How safe are Petaluma dog hiking trails compared to public dog parks?
Petaluma dog hiking trails are significantly safer than public facilities. Public dog parks risk: aggressive dogs, inattentive owners, disease transmission, overcrowding that triggers reactive behaviors or injuries. Private Petaluma dog hiking trails eliminate these concerns—bookings are completely private, all guests have vaccinated dogs (or titers), and hosts maintain clean spaces. 93% of Sniffspot reviews are 5 stars.
Are Petaluma dog hiking trails safe for reactive dogs?
Petaluma owners of reactive dogs choose dog hiking trails because they offer safe, private environments for off-leash exercise without the triggers of public dog parks. Complete privacy means no unexpected dog encounters, no overwhelming chaos, no aggressive dogs. Reactive dogs can finally enjoy natural exploration and varied terrain while building confidence in a controlled setting. Many Petaluma reactive dog owners say Sniffspot is their only safe exercise option.
Can anxious dogs safely use Petaluma dog hiking trails?
Yes! Petaluma dog hiking trails provide controlled environments perfect for anxious or fearful dogs. No other dogs means no triggers, no overwhelming situations. Anxious dogs can explore a natural outdoor path where dogs can explore varied terrain off-leash in a safe, private environment at their own pace without stress. Many Petaluma dog hiking trails offer quiet, spacious settings ideal for building confidence in nervous dogs who struggle at chaotic public dog parks.
Are Petaluma dog hiking trails good for small dogs?
Absolutely! Small dogs benefit enormously from Petaluma dog hiking trails because they can explore without fear of being trampled or intimidated by larger breeds. Many small dog owners in Petaluma avoid public parks entirely due to safety concerns—dog hiking trails eliminate that worry. Filter for appropriate sizing, secure fencing with no gaps, and hosts who understand petite pup needs.
Do Petaluma dog hiking trails work for senior dogs?
Yes! Senior dogs thrive at Petaluma dog hiking trails because they can move at their own pace without being knocked over by rambunctious puppies or young dogs. Look for Petaluma dog hiking trails with flat terrain, easy access, shade, and smaller sizes if your senior has mobility limitations. The privacy means your older dog can rest when needed and enjoy gentle exercise without stress.
What do Petaluma dog owners say about dog hiking trails?
Reviews of Petaluma dog hiking trails consistently highlight: excellent privacy for all dog types, secure fencing that prevented escapes, clean and well-maintained spaces, responsive hosts, and safe environments for anxious, fearful, reactive, senior, and small dogs.
