The Gulch Lake

Unfenced
100 acres

The ultimate dog escape! A certified organic ranch and dreamy lake surrounded by rolling hills! Your dogs can experience wild foul, fish and cattle or spend their time time swimming away at the lake! There is a picnic table (not in the best shape, but can fit about 4 people) for your stuff and a great combination of sun and shade surrounding the lake! We recently added a 1.2 mile trail around our property. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do! Accessing our lake requires a bit of a walk through uneven terrain with cow holes, which may be challenging for some. If you have difficulty walking on rough ground, this Sniffspot may not be the best fit. While there is a path, it is not perfectly smooth, and less active visitors may find it hard to navigate. Cows do roam freely in the same field. They are harmless, but please be sure to close all gates securely when entering or leaving the area. We recommend ignoring the cows—they’ll leave you alone if you do the same. Our house is the only house on the right side of the road. Please do not stop/disturb the first houses on the left side of the driveway. Keep coming down our driveway and park near the light blue green house on the right. If you’re wondering if we test for toxic blue green algae, the answer is yes! The test was negative! Please see our pictures for confirmation of a negative test! Test performed on 6/1/25

55Such a beautiful spot. Our dogs loved the enclosed pasture. Our dogs especially loved to see some of the cattle, donkeys, and horses at a safe distance. We wanted to explore the hiking trails, too, but didn’t realize it was one or the other. Regardless, I’m sure we will be back.

55This is my first time using Sniffspot and I love that this was the first location I got to experience with my two dogs. The land is beautiful and feels pretty remote. It’s not a flat hike so I definitely recommend good shoes and keeping your dog on a leash if they don’t have good recall as when mine would run ahead of me I would lose site of them for a moment. But they are well trained so I knew I didn’t have to worry. If you don’t stay on the main trail and go into the brush or the smaller trails, you will get ticks so either make sure you are covered from head to toe and also that your dogs are sprayed with flea & tick repellent or that they are on a flea and tick preventative. I found a few before we even left the park but I just flicked them off and did a thorough brushing on both to ensure there weren’t any lurkers I couldn’t see. The weather was beautiful and my dogs were pretty tired when we got home but they didn’t seem to want to leave before our time was up so it lived up to all the hype I gave them. 😂

55What a great place for my husky puppy to play! Sylvia loved running around in the fenced acre used to hold goats, cows, and horses. I can’t wait to come back and check out the trail. Getting to see the horses and cow calves was such a bonus for me.

55This place isn’t just a Sniffspot, it’s a whole experience! Starting with a beautiful ranch where you can see cows, horses, goats and chickens, (if your dog is reactive to these, then the host will accommodate you drive past and start your visit at the trailhead) to the well marked and maintained hiking trails to the top of a hill with a fantastic view across the Bay! It was wonderful to get a rewarding and beautiful off-leash hike in without having to worry. Excellent spot with an excellent host.

Frequently asked questions about Hayward dog hiking trails

Why are private dog hiking trails better than public dog parks in Hayward?

Private dog hiking trails in Hayward eliminate major public park risks: unpredictable dog encounters that scare puppies, aggressive dogs that trigger reactive behavior, chaotic crowds that overwhelm seniors or small dogs, and disease transmission from dozens of unknown dogs. Hayward's 3 private dog hiking trails offer complete privacy, professionally maintained cleanliness, and controlled environments. Whether you have a fearful puppy, a reactive adult, a fragile senior, or simply want peace of mind, private bookings give you control.

How safe are Hayward dog hiking trails compared to public dog parks?

Hayward dog hiking trails are significantly safer than public facilities. Public dog parks risk: aggressive dogs, inattentive owners, disease transmission, overcrowding that triggers reactive behaviors or injuries. Private Hayward dog hiking trails eliminate these concerns—bookings are completely private, all guests have vaccinated dogs (or titers), and hosts maintain clean spaces. 93% of Sniffspot reviews are 5 stars.

Are Hayward dog hiking trails safe for reactive dogs?

Hayward owners of reactive dogs choose dog hiking trails because they offer safe, private environments for off-leash exercise without the triggers of public dog parks. Complete privacy means no unexpected dog encounters, no overwhelming chaos, no aggressive dogs. Reactive dogs can finally enjoy natural exploration and varied terrain while building confidence in a controlled setting. Many Hayward reactive dog owners say Sniffspot is their only safe exercise option.

Can anxious dogs safely use Hayward dog hiking trails?

Yes! Hayward dog hiking trails provide controlled environments perfect for anxious or fearful dogs. No other dogs means no triggers, no overwhelming situations. Anxious dogs can explore a natural outdoor path where dogs can explore varied terrain off-leash in a safe, private environment at their own pace without stress. Many Hayward dog hiking trails offer quiet, spacious settings ideal for building confidence in nervous dogs who struggle at chaotic public dog parks.

Are Hayward dog hiking trails good for small dogs?

Absolutely! Small dogs benefit enormously from Hayward dog hiking trails because they can explore without fear of being trampled or intimidated by larger breeds. Many small dog owners in Hayward avoid public parks entirely due to safety concerns—dog hiking trails eliminate that worry. Filter for appropriate sizing, secure fencing with no gaps, and hosts who understand petite pup needs.

Do Hayward dog hiking trails work for senior dogs?

Yes! Senior dogs thrive at Hayward dog hiking trails because they can move at their own pace without being knocked over by rambunctious puppies or young dogs. Look for Hayward dog hiking trails with flat terrain, easy access, shade, and smaller sizes if your senior has mobility limitations. The privacy means your older dog can rest when needed and enjoy gentle exercise without stress.

What do Hayward dog owners say about dog hiking trails?

Reviews of Hayward dog hiking trails consistently highlight: excellent privacy for all dog types, secure fencing that prevented escapes, clean and well-maintained spaces, responsive hosts, and safe environments for anxious, fearful, reactive, senior, and small dogs. Local favorite The Gulch Lake is particularly praised in Hayward. Read reviews to see real experiences from Hayward dog owners with similar needs.

How clean and maintained are Hayward dog hiking trails?

Hayward hosts maintain their own dog hiking trails and take pride in providing excellent experiences. All guests must have vaccinated dogs (or titers). Many Hayward hosts provide poop bags, trash cans, and regular cleaning. Reviews highlight maintenance quality—browse Hayward dog hiking trail listings to see real feedback about cleanliness and upkeep.
