55Absolutely unbelievable. You have to go there and experience being on the property to truly understand how special this place is. We could have spent our entire day here. What a dream come true and such an incredible thing to share with others! So, well worth the little road trip from the city and the extra time spent there. Don't book for less than 2 hours. We did get a little lost! But easy to follow our footsteps back and mostly due to following my wanderlust dogs. Vala L.

55Lovely. Next time would definitely start at the dugout side first then the walk around the property after to dry off but it was a great visit! Shay G.

55What a wonderful sniffspot! This was my dog's first time around water and she had a blast bobbing for sticks in the dugout. Beautiful trails and lots of open space for dogs to run. The horses are visible from a couple spots but it was easy to stay out of sight so that my dog didn't react. If your dog is a poop eater you will have to watch them closely as there are lots of horse turds around - thankfully my dog wasn't interested in it. We booked 1.5 hours and I would definitely recommend that; or more! Kalena B.

55I’ve been meaning to come to this Sniffspot for a while and finally booked it! It was worth the drive from Edmonton - I booked 1.5 hours to be able to explore. My dog had the best time! The map was helpful and goggle maps satellite view works if you need to orient yourself on the map. If your dog is a swamp creature like mine they’ll have a great time in the boggy water. Also - if your dog eats poop there’s lots of horse, elk & moose droppings so something to keep in mind! Erica F.

55This place .... Magic. ✨ I love sniffspots, been to a few, and there is NO PLACE around here like this. My husband, dachshund and I had an absolute blast!!! It is very big, very expansive .... And yet so reasonably priced. I can't even adequately explain how large this place is. Peaceful and just gorgeous. Thank you for sharing your spot with us! We will be back. Pro tip: book 90 mins. 55What an great place! I love how much space there is here - and the complementary treat bags are just the sweetest touch. They were a hit with the dogs!
Between my parents, sister and brother in law and me, we have 4 large dogs. We booked 1.5 hours and the dogs were wonderfully tired after! We appreciated all the trails - and definitely having a map (in the listing, and sent in advance by Sonata) helped us have a better sense of where we were.
The dogs had a total blast in the dugout… however, we are not planning to let them swim there again as the water is fairly smelly. They all needed baths when we got home!
If there was a “half star” option I might have left 4.5 stars because there was some loose wire on the ground by some old fence posts at the dugout. I think most of the wire was smooth but someone spotted barbs. Having urban dogs who don’t know how to watch themselves around barbed wire, that was a bit concerning.
But 4 stars just seemed too low. Because honestly how many great big gorgeous wilderness-type private offleash areas are there within easy driving distance of Edmonton and Stony Plain?? Nothing else like this, at least that I’m aware of. Lots of moose droppings (and also horse droppings), birds, one rabbit sighting and I’m pretty sure we heard a grouse. Different kinds of frogs were singing in at least a couple places, and at one of the wetland ponds (snowmelt?) a couple of the humans saw some of the frogs, which was cool.
Make sure you have dogs with decent recall (3 of ours do), or bring a long line (my dog spent some time off leash and some time on her long line). It’s partially fenced.
Wear hiking boots or sturdy footwear. Bug spray is going to be a good idea soon. I saw a couple of big mosquitos.
If you want to do some exploring and are able to book more than an hour, I highly recommend doing so! Even with 1.5 hours, I still felt like we got back to the driveway just in the nick of time to leave - and there were still trails and areas we hadn’t even seen.
We are also thinking this could be an awesome place to snowshoe in the winter.Chelsea M.

55Beautiful and vast area. Easy to locate and host is friendly and informative. The terrain was a bit of a tough walk in some sections due to deep snow but I would visit again regardless as we didn’t have time to explore everywhere in an hour! Kendra G.

55Great big space to run and play with a nice treed area with a short path! Fully fenced, even had some picnic benches at the front. Host provided a water dish and there were chuck-it’s available as well.
There was a chicken coop but it wasn’t visible from the park itself, only from the parking spot. There was animal droppings throughout the area which was listed, so I would avoid if your dog likes to snack on or roll in droppings. There was a pile of scrap metal as well as a pile of ash where junk had been burned, which could possibly be considered a hazard depending on the dog. The scrap is mostly contained to one section so we were able to stay away from it fine.
Overall we had a good time and this spot shows great potential! Would probably be my favourite in the area if it wasn’t for the small hazards!Jade P.

55Quite wet still but with the weather completely understandable. Cassandra sent me a message before hand to warn us, definitely bring your rubber boots if you’re heading there soon. Our dogs had a great time and there was a lot of space for them to run around. Very easy to find as well, and she had a water dish, towels and some toys available at the entrance. 55I really like this sniffspot. My dog and I have been here before with my sister and brother in law and their dogs, but this is the first time I booked it myself. As a few others have mentioned, it is pretty muddy right now. Normal for this time of year of course - but I forgot how slippery mud can be!! Learn from my mistakes and take it easy when walking from your vehicle to the gate lol. No sudden moves!
That said, the dogs of course had an amazing time running and playing. And everyone had a bath when we got home!
More animal droppings than I remembered from the last time I was here - but that’s probably because the snow that had covered them before has melted.
Very grateful for the clean towels by the gate, thank you for that thoughtful touch!
I’ll definitely be back after it dries out a bit again!Chelsea M.

55Definitely a bit mucky, but that's expected given the recent thaw. The space is huge, definitely various animals have been in the field and there are a lot of different animal droppings but it provides a really great sniffing experience. Our pup really enjoyed all the opportunities to take in the different smells, space to run and explore, and overall had a great time. Definitely, will be back but likely when things dry up a bit more. Still a great place to go for now if you have a pair of rubber boots. Only feedback would be that some signage or parking instructions would be helpful to figure out where to go when you get there.Paige K.

Note: rubber boots are needed right now due to all the melting snow. The clean towels at the exit were much appreciated for drying everyone off 😅Jacqueline P.

Frequently asked questions about Carvel dog hiking trails
What do private dog hiking trails in Carvel offer that public parks don't?
Private dog hiking trails in Carvel offer complete privacy (no other dogs), specialized environments for natural exploration and varied terrain, professionally maintained cleanliness, flexible 24/7 scheduling, and safe spaces for all temperaments—puppies, seniors, small dogs, reactive dogs, or any pup needing accommodations. Public dog parks in Carvel can't guarantee any of this. With 4 options, you get predictable, controlled environments perfect for your dog's specific needs.
Can I find fully fenced private dog parks in Carvel?
Yes! Most of Carvel's 4 private dog parks are fully fenced. Use the "fully fenced" filter to find secure enclosures with detailed specs: height (4ft, 6ft, 8ft+), material (wood, chain-link, vinyl), and gap information. This is crucial for escape artists, puppies learning boundaries, reactive dogs needing contained space, or small dogs who might squeeze through. Carvel listings include fencing photos so you can verify security.
When can puppies start visiting dog hiking trails in Carvel?
Puppies can visit Carvel dog hiking trails as early as 8-10 weeks with initial vaccinations, much earlier than the 16+ weeks needed for public park safety. This early, controlled socialization prevents fear and reactivity issues later. Plus, puppies can explore natural exploration and varied terrain without being overwhelmed or learning bad behaviors from poorly socialized adult dogs. Many Carvel trainers specifically use dog hiking trails for puppy development.
How do I find private dog hiking trails near me in Carvel?
Browse Carvel's 4 dog hiking trails on Sniffspot by entering your neighborhood or zip code. Filter by distance, then narrow by features: fully fenced, "fewer dogs seen/heard," specific amenities, terrain type, or size. Each Carvel listing shows photos, reviews, exact location, and instant availability. Local favorite The Ultimate Off-Leash Escape is particularly popular among Carvel dog owners.
Can I rent dog hiking trails in Carvel by the hour?
Yes! All 4 dog hiking trails in Carvel are available for hourly rental. Most bookings are 1-2 hours, though you can reserve longer for training or events. Book instantly through Sniffspot, arrive during your time slot, and have complete privacy. Many Carvel dog owners rent weekly for consistent, safe exercise.
What's the difference between Sniffspot dog hiking trails and public dog parks in Carvel?
The biggest difference is privacy and control. Public dog parks in Carvel mean sharing space with unknown dogs and owners. That means you can't control who shows up or how they behave. Sniffspot's 4 Carvel dog hiking trails give you private bookings where only your dogs are present. You choose the time, the space, and the environment. Plus, your pup enjoys natural exploration and varied terrain and maintained cleanliness that public parks can't guarantee.
Are there indoor dog hiking trails in Carvel?
Yes! Carvel has climate-controlled indoor dog hiking trails perfect for extreme weather, rainy days, or year-round exercise. Indoor Carvel locations typically feature protective flooring, controlled temperatures, and enclosed environments. They're especially popular for puppy training, senior dogs, reactive dogs, or anyone wanting consistent access regardless of Carvel weather. Filter by "indoor" to see options.
How do Carvel dog hiking trails help with dog training?
Carvel trainers love dog hiking trails because privacy eliminates distractions. Work on recall, practice trail recall in natural environments, leash manners on varied terrain, or hiking endurance building, reinforce obedience, socialize puppies, or address reactivity without interruptions. For reactive dogs, train without trigger-stacking. For puppies, practice skills in controlled increments. For any dog, get focused training time in an environment specifically designed for natural exploration and varied terrain.
