Meet Gayle, host of Gayle's Dog Haven & Coffee Bar in Historic Pasadena, a peaceful Sniffspot that's already welcomed more than 232 dogs since opening in September 2025.
She's built something a little different: a calm, welcoming space where dogs can run free and their humans can actually relax. And she's done it with almost no prior hosting experience, just a yard, a plan, and a lot of care for the details.
Guests are always telling Gayle the same thing: their dogs are just so happy here.
"They love getting to run and play freely," she says. Between the toys, the open space, and a dedicated digging area, dogs get to just be dogs.
It's not only the dogs who feel it. Humans do too.
Gayle's space is all about peace and ease, for both pups and their people. Guests love:
And then there's the standout feature: a coffee and tea bar.
"I offer a free coffee and tea bar for humans," Gayle says. "Guests feel a little pampered when they come."
She built it out thoughtfully too: a cart stocked with coffee supplies, dog toys, bug spray, and waste bags, so everything a guest needs is in one place.

If you're setting up your own space, this is a good checklist to steal: fencing, shade, something for dogs to dig or dig into, a few toys, seating for humans, and one signature touch that's entirely yours. Gayle's is coffee. Yours might be a firepit, a splash pool, or a dog-washing station. The point isn't to copy her, it's to find the one thing that makes your spot memorable.
Gayle's journey into hosting is a personal one.
"I work freelance in the entertainment industry and was in between jobs when my dog, Bear, passed away."
In his honor, she started volunteering at a local dog shelter and quickly fell in love with it.
"It made me wonder if there might be a way to earn income that also aligned with my love of dogs. That's when I discovered Sniffspot."
Now it's just as much a tribute to Bear as it is a business.

A few things Gayle focuses on, and how you can apply them to your own spot:
Gayle didn't set out to build a business. She had a yard, a fresh grief to work through, and a hunch that her love of dogs could turn into something more. That's a lower bar than most people assume hosting requires.
If you've got outdoor space, even a modest fenced yard, you already have what most successful hosts started with:
For dog lovers looking for income that doesn't feel like a grind, hosting is one of the few side hustles that runs largely on its own once the space is set up.

"One guest was fostering a dog named Hammy. She brought him to my spot a number of times, and we would message about how much we hoped he'd be adopted.
A couple of months later, she brought Hammy for his last visit. He'd been adopted into a loving home."
Gayle's Dog Haven continues to grow, offering a peaceful escape where dogs can run, dig, and explore, while their humans sit back with a cup of coffee and enjoy the moment.
Here's to many more happy dogs (and maybe a few more cups of coffee). 🐾☕
