The Gulch Lake

Unfenced
100 acres

The ultimate dog escape! A certified organic ranch and dreamy lake surrounded by rolling hills! Your dogs can experience wild foul, fish and cattle or spend their time time swimming away at the lake! There is a picnic table (not in the best shape, but can fit about 4 people) for your stuff and a great combination of sun and shade surrounding the lake! We recently added a 1.2 mile trail around our property. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do! Accessing our lake requires a bit of a walk through uneven terrain with cow holes, which may be challenging for some. If you have difficulty walking on rough ground, this Sniffspot may not be the best fit. While there is a path, it is not perfectly smooth, and less active visitors may find it hard to navigate. Cows do roam freely in the same field. They are harmless, but please be sure to close all gates securely when entering or leaving the area. We recommend ignoring the cows—they’ll leave you alone if you do the same. Our house is the only house on the right side of the road. Please do not stop/disturb the first houses on the left side of the driveway. Keep coming down our driveway and park near the light blue green house on the right. If you’re wondering if we test for toxic blue green algae, the answer is yes! The test was negative! Please see our pictures for confirmation of a negative test! Test performed on 6/1/25

Kara's Happy Dog Tails And Trails Hiking Ranch

Partially Fenced
500 acres

Hi this ranch is a beautiful private place to walk and hike with your dogs. I grew up out here and this ranch holds many wonderful memories for me and my family. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. *IMPORTANT* We have young cows out here that roam around freely. They will occasionally be in the area where you will be hiking. KEEP YOUR DOGS LEASHED IF THEY MAY CHASE THE HEIFERS! I also have this description shown in the potential hazards section of my spot. I also show in the potential hazards that there are a lot of ticks this time of year! April through July. Please be careful! Thank you 🙏

Ann's Acreage Partially Fenced Private Dog Park In Cloverdale

Partially Fenced
40 acres

Parking: There is plenty of roadside parking available during the day. For overnight parking, we recommend parking off the road, such as near the porta potty area or on the opposite side closer to the road. Restrictions: Catching or keeping wild animals, including fish from the creek, is prohibited. Public waterways are regulated by California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and dogs are not permitted to swim in the creek. Please refer to California Department of Fish and Wildlife for licensing requirements. Gate Access: In general, the gate will remain closed unless you have an AWD vehicle and provide the necessary information in advance. Please note that we are unable to provide emergency roadside assistance on site. To Do: At the top of the driveway, there is a turnaround area where dogs can run freely. At the end of the turnaround area, you’ll find a tree swing. Past the swing is a chicken coop and shaded area where pallets sit, and beyond the fence behind the chicken coop, there is a fire access road that may lead back down to the main road. On the opposite side of the road, there is a trail located behind the sand pile, with a small bridge crossing along the way. While river access may be possible, it is not officially provided.

Frequently asked questions about Sonoma dog hiking trails

Where can I find dog hiking trails in Sonoma?

Sonoma has 6 private dog hiking trails available through Sniffspot, offering natural exploration and varied terrain in completely private settings. These locations range from compact spaces to properties spanning 500+ acres. Whether you need a space for your reactive dog, puppy socialization, senior dog gentle exercise, or high-energy play, Sonoma dog hiking trails provide safe, private environments. Filter for "fewer dogs seen/heard," specific amenities, or fencing types to find your perfect match.

How many dog hiking trails are in Sonoma?

Sonoma offers 6 dog hiking trails ranging from compact spaces to properties spanning acres. You'll find options such as dog field, fully fenced dog park, dog agility park, and more. Each Sonoma dog hiking trail listing shows detailed photos, amenities, fencing specs, and reviews from local dog owners.

Are Sonoma dog hiking trails good for all dog types?

Yes! Sonoma dog hiking trails work for every dog: puppies learning socialization, senior dogs needing gentle exercise, small dogs who feel safer without large breeds, high-energy dogs requiring space, and reactive or anxious dogs needing privacy. The completely private bookings mean each dog gets the environment they need. Browse Sonoma's 6 options to find spaces matching your dog's specific temperament and needs.

Will I encounter other dogs at Sonoma dog hiking trails?

Not a chance. Sonoma dog hiking trails operate on a strict one-booking-at-a-time system, so the space is entirely yours during your reserved slot. Host dogs are kept away, and there's a mandatory 30-minute buffer between bookings—meaning you won't cross paths with the previous or next guest. For Sonoma owners with reactive dogs, puppies, or any dog needing privacy, this makes all the difference in providing safe, stress-free exercise.

Are Sonoma dog hiking trails safe for fearful or anxious dogs?

Yes! Sonoma dog hiking trails provide controlled, predictable environments without the chaos of public dog parks. Since bookings are completely private with 30-minute buffers, anxious dogs can explore a natural outdoor path where dogs can explore varied terrain off-leash in a safe, private environment without overwhelming encounters. Many Sonoma dog owners specifically choose dog hiking trails for fearful dogs who need gentle, stress-free exercise environments.

Can puppies use Sonoma dog hiking trails?

Absolutely! Sonoma dog hiking trails are excellent for puppy socialization because they're private and controlled. Puppies can explore a natural outdoor path where dogs can explore varied terrain off-leash in a safe, private environment, practice recall, and build confidence without the overwhelming chaos that can create fear or reactivity in young dogs. Just ensure your puppy has age-appropriate vaccinations before visiting.

How do I choose the best dog hiking trail in Sonoma?

Start by filtering Sonoma's 6 dog hiking trails for your specific needs: secure fencing for escape artists, "fewer dogs seen/heard" for reactive dogs, flat terrain for seniors, appropriate sizing for small dogs, or specific amenities for training. Look for "Top Spots" like Sonoma's The Gulch Lake with excellent reviews.Read feedback from other Sonoma owners with similar dog types to find your perfect match.

What are Sonoma's dog hiking trail requirements?

All dogs must have basic vaccinations or titers. Each Sonoma host may have additional rules on their listing. Most dog hiking trails welcome all breeds, sizes, and temperament levels, including reactive dogs who can't safely visit public dog parks. Adult supervision is required at all times.
