For Your First Visit: It is a good idea to walk your dog on a leash around the perimeter until you are comfortable. Although it is fenced, it is not possible to know every dog’s individual behavior. We’re excited to share our private 2-acre organic apple orchard with you and your dog! It is completely enclosed with a 10-foot tall fence. It’s great for dogs who love to run as well as those who need a quiet place to explore. Because our farm sits a bit off the main road, it is usually a peaceful and relaxing environment. Enjoy beautiful sunsets, trees in bloom, and our sunflower patch! There is occasional mud especially right after a rain. There are bee boxes located outside of the back/northern fence line (your dog will not be able to access them). Due to the nature of our property and the outdoor environment, I cannot guarantee the absence of wildlife, wildlife scat, insects, mud, fallen fruit, weather-related conditions, or other natural elements. Welcome! We are working hard to make our peaceful, quiet 12 acres into a beautiful park. You are welcome at any time, day or night, to walk, run, bike, ski or snowshoe with your dogs. We no longer have any pets-- no more dogs, horses, chickens, or other livestock. We are often visited by deer and groundhogs. Although we have 12 acres, the house and barn are in the middle of it, so you may see the house from many areas during your visit. Usually, we are working inside or we are away and we keep most of the curtains closed. We may use the driveway or receive a delivery. Lovely 150 year old decommissioned farm that has been rewilding for 40 years. It has been held as a private wildlife refuge and has been farm and garden chemical free for many years. Trails wind through meadows, woods, and across frozen marsh in the wintertime. Encounter deer, turkey, crane, friendly crows, songbirds, raptors, a wide variety of wildflowers and trees. Also the occasional bunny, fox, coyote, raccoon squirrels and chipmunks pass through. In sheltering spots like my wood chip pile, I have seen snakes and salamanders. In season there are berries and fruit from wild apple and pear trees scattered along the trails. Note that this is a natural area resulting from the rewilding process and not a groomed and open park-like setting. But the trails are wide and mowed regularly for ease of walking. In the woods be prepared to navigate the occasional sticks and branches that may be on the path as typical of a natural woodlot. Wear sturdy walking shoes.
