Joy Ridge Sanctuary with over 2 Acres of Redwoods and Gardens

Welcome to our private oasis (we will not be home when you visit!) with over 2 fully fenced acres of redwoods and gardens in Occidental with a park-like setting. Dogs and their families can journey the meandering paths and trails to explore gardens, redwoods, seasonal fruit trees (you are welcome to try it) and endless relaxing areas with hammocks, benches, tables/chairs and even a covered outdoor bed. There is an indoor rustic lounge with sofa and table/chairs where we provide complimentary coffee/tea, water and treats for humans and dogs, dog toys/wipes/towels/blankets/waste bags, disposable rain ponchos for people and a covered outdoor patio with a sitting area to enjoy the redwoods. The bathroom is accessible from the main deck and has a sign on the door. Our redwoods sanctuary is perfect for celebrations, gatherings and private recharging in nature for dogs and their families. Only 15 min drive to dog friendly beaches, 10 min to 'Grove of Old Trees' (dog friendly) and to downtown in Occidental which is known for its shops, galleries and a famous dog friendly Howard Station Cafe. It's also an 8 min drive to 'St. Teresa of Avila Church' in Bodega where Alfred Hitchcock's film 'The Birds' was filmed. If you are visiting with little humans, please enjoy our outdoor toddler playground, swing set, an outdoor mud kitchen with kids' picnic table and a large sandbox with toys. There are also toys and books for kids in the lounge (under the coffee/tea bar table). If you have any questions, please reach out anytime so we can make your visit a wonderful experience! NOTE: If you see a block on the calendar and it's the only time you can visit, please feel free to reach out as we can move the blocks around on some days. HOT WEATHER INFORMATION Our sanctuary is high up along the forested ridge, which exposes it to fog and cooler offshore breezes. You can visit anytime of the day - the property is over 80% shaded and much cooler in hot weather due to a heavy redwood canopy that serves as a natural air conditioner. The temperature is 6-10F lower (depending on the fog and time of the day) than the weather forecast for Occidental. We also added a 'Splash Zone' under a 1000+ year old redwood tree for pups to enjoy.

Fully Fenced, Peaceful, Beautiful Dog Park

A beautiful fenced-in 3+ acre parcel with hills, a few trees, areas with short and tall grass. Dogs absolutely love it here. Occasionally we’ll see wild turkeys and a few deer (and a gopher or squirrel here and there) but otherwise it is a dog roaming paradise. Easy to pull in and park on the gravel area. I have dog bowls, a few toys, 3 pooper scoopers, emergency poop bags, and a couple of washing stations. Cell reception is reasonably good here.

Or use area for training one on one with your canine. An enjoyable experience noted by all guests visiting!! When you book a time it will just be you occupying the dog park. Welcome!! Sorry, no porta potty available, as it was put there by landscapers while they worked on property. Please do not book the 230pm time slot Mon-Fri if you have a reactive dog. Book the 3pm time slot as I rent the field out to a dog walker who leaves with many cars of dogs around 230pm or slightly thereafter, so that you do not cross paths with one another. Agility equipment area has just been added to sniffspot. Enter through secondary gate within sniffspot.Enjoy your visit!! Sometimes I have time slots available that do not show on calendar. The Gulch Pool

Welcome to our dog pool! Yup, that’s right, we designed this pool specifically for dogs!!!! We have 3 large benches that accommodate dogs of all sizes (some benches are more shallow/deeper than others), plus a step that goes all the way around the pool for dogs to walk on. In addition to that, we have a step in the deep end that makes it easy for the dogs to get in and out of the pool! We also have bubblers inside of the pool (the dogs go crazy over these) and then outside of the pool we have fountains that shoot into the pool! This is literally a dream pool for dogs and dog owners! The pool is surrounded by artificial turf and a gorgeous view! We can’t wait for you to check out our pool! The Gulch Lake

The ultimate dog escape! A certified organic ranch and dreamy lake surrounded by rolling hills! Your dogs can experience wild foul, fish and cattle or spend their time time swimming away at the lake! There is a picnic table (not in the best shape, but can fit about 4 people) for your stuff and a great combination of sun and shade surrounding the lake! We recently added a 1.2 mile trail around our property. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do! Accessing our lake requires a bit of a walk through uneven terrain with cow holes, which may be challenging for some. If you have difficulty walking on rough ground, this Sniffspot may not be the best fit. While there is a path, it is not perfectly smooth, and less active visitors may find it hard to navigate. Cows do roam freely in the same field. They are harmless, but please be sure to close all gates securely when entering or leaving the area. We recommend ignoring the cows—they’ll leave you alone if you do the same. Our house is the only house on the right side of the road. Please do not stop/disturb the first houses on the left side of the driveway. Keep coming down our driveway and park near the light blue green house on the right. If you’re wondering if we test for toxic blue green algae, the answer is yes! The test was negative! Please see our pictures for confirmation of a negative test! Test performed on 6/1/25

We have approximately 0.30 acres of fenced yard with several locations of seating for the humans, 3 water stations for the pups & a hose for more water when needed. We also provide dog bags, garbage, several balls, a throwing arm to play fetch, several toys, a kiddie pool for pups to cool off, and an agility course. Don't forget to check out the treats on the table. There is always atreat bag for each pup to enjoy. Poolside Lounge & Play for Pups & Their People

Lounge beside the pool while your pups play and sniff to their heart's content. Read your book in the egg swing or drink your beverage stretched out on a chase lounge. You and your pups are all welcome to use the pool but be forewarned, it is not heated and very chilly until warmed by the summer heat. Some dogs can't resist a pool. Please encourage them to do so with your careful supervision. Call dogs out of the pool at any sign of cold or distress, including shivering, coughing, or submerging. There is no bathroom available for humans. Dogs can use the yard, of course. Please clean up after them with bags provided, and dispose of all waste in the gray tote outside the gate. Park*facing* the white brick wall in front of the house, to the *right* of the driveway. Walk up the driveway past the tent trailer, and enter through the gate on the left. Bring towels, a chucker, your picnic lunch, and have fun!

Hi, We are reopening after completing our new back fence. Please note there is a large pile of soil/dirt in the driveway area. There is still plenty of room to park. Pups of all sizes enjoy this spot. Half acre property, fully fenced and gated, good privacy, lawn, pool, lounge chairs, table and chairs, flower gardens, redwood trees, olive trees, persimmon trees, meditation garden, hummingbirds, and even a red fire hydrant. Optional pool access for people can be purchased as an Extra, by the hour and by the person. The pool is unheated except by the sun/air. We love all dogs and welcome dogs of all shapes and sizes and hair types to visit; however we can only offer pool access for non-shedding pups, as long hair and fur was unfortunately causing damage to the pool equipment; If you are booking for more than one non-shedding dog swimming or for longer than an hour, please message us with info about your dog(s) and we will create an extra for you for the number of dogs you have swimming. Most visitors find the lawn size ample for running around and throwing a ball a bit, but if you are looking for a field to launch a tennis ball as far as you possibly can with a Chuck-it, the yard is not really the right size and shape for that, sorry! Hours right now are 7:00am to 7:30pm. If you are booking prior to 8:30am, please book no later than 9:00pm the night before, so that we see the booking before we go to bed. Fenced, 5-ish Acre Open-Space & Place to Play

Approximately 5 acres of sloping, pasture-like land located at the top of a hill. This upper portion is available to run your dog. We share the land with turkeys, foxes, raccoons, possums, deer, coyotes, and bobcats. These lovable wildlife are generally only out at dawn, dusk, and after dark. Your dog must be well-behaved and listen to your commands not to chase these residents. We also have beehives back in the trees and ask that you and your dogs avoid this area for your safety and the safety of the bees. While the frontage is fenced, it is livestock fencing, so small dogs can escape. If your dog does not listen to commands and is prone to be an escape artist, this may not be the spot for them. During the dry season there are large cracks in the ground so be cautious. Ticks can also be prevalent during certain times of the year, so be sure to check yourself and your pup after a visit. Several neighboring properties have dogs in their fenced yards. There is no access to water here, so please plan accordingly. Enjoy!
