Maplewood Farm Dog Retreat | 5-Acre Nature Escape

Welcome to Maplewood Farm Dog Retreat -- a peaceful 5-acre nature escape in south Maplewood near Battle Creek, just minutes from I-94 & McKnight. This is still undeveloped farmland, roughly the size of a city block, tucked into the suburbs, with rolling hills, mature trees, wooded trails, open field space, wildlife scents (ton of bunnies!), and a very different feel from a typical backyard spot. Dogs get room to run, sniff, explore, and decompress away from crowded dog parks, while hoomans can relax in the shade or bring family for a picnic. For history buffs, the property also has the only standing barn in Maplewood, built in 1896 and still in use. QUICK 30-MIN VISITS are great for pups who just need to burn energy, stretch their legs, or take a potty break. The main fenced play area is approx. 60 x 100 ft, with room for off-leash play, fetch, zoomies, a 7-ft spring pole, and the NEW Pup Parkour Platform for climbing, balancing, confidence-building, and play. Lots of balls, frisbees, tug ropes, and poop bags available. Water play includes a popular splash pad, bathing sprayer with doggie shampoo, and a fancy lawn sprinkler with settings for pups who love “eating water” lol! Parking is right next to the gate, with shaded seating and a hammock for the hoomans too -- sometimes suspiciously comfortable. Please remember, you did bring a dog ;) For 30-min visits, please use the fenced area only. The spot is largely SELF-SERVE. Water play should be on and ready when you arrive; please turn ALL water off when it’s not being used and before you leave, since I may not always be home to monitor it. I may or may not come out to say hi depending on my work schedule, so don’t wait for me -- just come in and enjoy your visit. I keep app notifications on and am good about responding, so message me anytime if you have a question or need something. For the FULL MAPLEWOOD FARM EXPERIENCE, I recommend booking 1–2 hours. Explore the fenced area, then head through the back gate for a slower long-leash walk through the wooded trails, around the barn and house, and toward the open field. There are also a couple trolley lines for semi-free roaming; the longer one runs over a road trail. Trolley attachments may be at either end of the line, so check both ends if you don’t see one right away. Signs and a property map in the photos help guide you, but feel free to explore and take whatever route suits you. My pups stay inside during reservations. Occasionally, I may be working in a designated area between the house and barn, mostly out of sight. Any active work area will be coned off -- just give it a little space. This is a natural, dog-friendly space with a manicured feel -- part private dog park, part little nature retreat. Dogs are welcome to explore, climb on logs and wood-chip piles, sniff around, chew or pull on branches, and dig -- even inside the fenced area. I’m not precious about the landscape here, esp since the property may be developed next year. While it’s still here, I want our furry friends to have it and enjoy it. Foster dogs and dogs with physical or sensory challenges are welcome for a steep discount. The spot is open pretty much anytime from early morning to midnight, so you can book around your dog’s energy, the weather, or your own schedule. LED night lights make evening visits easy, and nighttime can be much cooler for pups on hot days. Bug spray available. Supervised campfire use available -- privately message me. As a dog lover and builder, I pay attention to how pups actually use the space and keep adding small improvements and enrichment features as I go. The newest addition is the Pup Parkour Platform -- strongly built from logs and sawn lumber, with ramps, balance beams, climbing surfaces, and colorful stepping stumps for pups of different sizes and confidence levels. My backyard offers 2 acres of fully fenced forested area with over 50 trees within that area! We keep a trail mowed that loops down into the bottom of the yard so you have a comfortable walking trail and your 4 legged friends can use it as a racetrack! Tons of smells to sniff and ample room for zoomies! There are some stickers/burrs in areas of the yard. For winter months, the slope in the yard can get icy so please wear good shoes and be mindful. My chickens have free rein to the property when there are no visitors so there will always be chicken poop on the ground in some areas more so than others. Chickens will always be secured in their predator proof coop and run. There are toys, a garbage can, a dog bowl, and extra poop bags on the patio just before the wooden stairs. Please feel free to park in the driveway on the right side of the garage!

10 Beautiful Acres with River 12 minutes from Hudson WI

5/15/26 update: All paths are mowed, field entrance to drive in is now available (unless heavy rain, then their may be orange cones in the drive) In that case PARK only at the barn/field entrance and walk in. Traffic - To the spot the drive has no major road work slowing you down but LEAVING through Hudson can have long back ups. Please check your maps for delays or other routes. ***Also, it is tick season, do check your dog! This is a beautiful piece of land with a (mostly) fenced perimeter and 1/3 acre fully fenced doggy play area. If you drive in by the picnic table you are in the center of 18 acres to play on and will be quite a distance from the road. There are mowed walking paths to the beautiful Kinnickinnic river, far away from other people and animals. You and your dog will both love it here! The river is cold, clean and easy for dogs to hop in and out, also humans but a bit muddy at the easiest entrance. If you want to keep them out of the water there is about 10 acres of open field where you park, separate and above the river so you don't need to have them down by the water at all. (although most dogs gravitate to there!) Good idea to bring towels although some dogs dry off by the time they run back to the car! We love sharing the space, thank you for review pics!

This is a great little spot with alot of privacy once you are down the hill by the river. There is an open field for the dogs to run and play catch with a mix of grass and sand, There are multiple spots where the dogs and people can get into the water if you wish . I also have a picnic table and some chairs down there to sit and relax at , it is very peaceful and private. I also offer overnight camping for guests for 100 a night , I have a nice large lodge style tent set up overlooking the river , there is a grill picnic table , firepit a couple fishing poles or you could always bring your own. I also have kayaks and a canoe available for rent also.

Our backyard is a half acre of fully fenced fun! Conveniently located and ample parking. Tons of room to run and sniff! Half of the backyard is grass. The other half is a mix of pollinators and weeds awaiting my picking. It was all buckthorn when we bought the house in 2021 😬 I use natural methods to control weeds by hand picking, cardboard and tarps for smothering patches of weeds as I work on slowly planting the “wild area.” The cardboard is pretty ugly, but it’s very effective in killing invasive weeds. So far I’ve planted more than 150 varieties of perennials 🌻 I haven’t verified that all the plants are dog-safe so please take precautions by preventing your dog from eating the plants. Humans, please try to take care to not trample the perennials in the wild area ❤️

It is not attached to our back yard and is a completely separate and private area. A great place for play dates with others, maybe even a picnic for the humans. Bring your snowshoes if you would like a bit of a workout yourself off trail in the deeper snow! ***2-16-26 the field is in poor conditions due to the frozen ground and warm temperatures. Please watch your footing. Early morning guest the low areas will refreeze and be crazy slippery, later guests need waterproof boots. PLEASE NOTE: Zero tolerance for smoking of ANYTHING while on our property. You may smoke in your own personal vehicle. But also, do NOT leave your dogs unattended. Fill any holes you pup digs and return toy to bin. Also, in the winter months, please be aware that their is no lighting in the field. The designated Sniffspot parking area has ample lighting but none in the field.
