Mini Semi-Private Residential Park In Mahtomedi

Enjoy a semi-private small residential park in our backyard! We provide a pooper scooper and trash can located by the short shed on the patio. You can also enjoy any of our backyard play equipment for you or anyone else (supervision is required for those not independent on playground equipment). We do want to make our backyard still available for us if we are home and want or need to work on some outdoor projects, if any of our kids want to play outside, or if our dog (Samoyed) or my dad’s dog (mini American Eskimo) need to go outside. We will do our best to leave you guys alone though, kids included, and hopefully the dogs won’t bark too much. (More dog friendly amenities may be added later if we see a good amount of people wanting to make reservations. We also plan to make the lawn nicer and hope to add more trees and maybe a flower garden to get some more nature.)

Maplewood Farm Dog Retreat | 5-Acre Nature Escape

Welcome to Maplewood Farm Dog Retreat -- a peaceful 5-acre nature escape in south Maplewood near Battle Creek, just minutes from I-94 & McKnight. This is still undeveloped farmland, roughly the size of a city block, tucked into the suburbs, with rolling hills, mature trees, wooded trails, open field space, wildlife sightings and scents (ton of bunnies!), and a very different feel from a typical backyard spot. Dogs get room to run, sniff, explore, and decompress away from crowded dog parks, while hoomans can breathe, sit under the trees, or bring family for a simple picnic. Peaceful and private, but still only minutes from St. Paul. For history buffs, the property also has the only standing barn in Maplewood, built in 1896, still in its original form and in use, plus a couple apple trees that add to the old farm feel. QUICK 30-MIN VISITS are great for dogs who just need to burn energy fast, stretch their legs, or take a quick potty break. The main fenced play area is approx. 60 ft x 100 ft and great for off-leash play, fetch, zoomies, tug with the spring pole, and burning off energy. It’s easy to access near the street, and parking is right next to the gate, so it’s quick to get in, let your pup run, do their business, and head out. Many amenities inside the fenced area, including shaded seating and a hammock. For 30-min visits, please use the fenced play area only. Water play/running water is not included, and I usually won’t come out to greet you so you can make the most of your time. For the FULL MAPLEWOOD FARM EXPERIENCE, I recommend booking 1-2 hours. That gives you time to enjoy the fenced play area plus a slower long-leash walk around the block-long property, full of wildlife scents, wooded trails, scenic views, open field space, nooks and crannies, and peaceful places to take in nature. For longer visits, there is also a self-serve water-play area with a splash pad and overhead sprinkler/mister, plus a sprayer if you want to rinse or bathe your pup on the grass. For longer visits, a good route usually starts in the fenced area, then continues through the back gate into the wooded trail system. You can loop toward the house and barn (you may hear my dogs bark), continue through the mature forest trail, use the runner trolley system for semi-free roaming, then circle back toward the open field. Signs are posted to help guide you. This is a natural, dog-friendly space, not a suburban yard. Dogs are welcome to explore, climb on log and wood chip piles, chew or pull on tree branches, sniff around, dig in appropriate natural areas, and enjoy the property in whatever way feels safe and appropriate to you. I’m not precious about the landscape here, esp since the property may be developed next year. While it’s still here, I want our furry friends to have it and enjoy it. Foster dogs and dogs with physical or sensory challenges are welcome to visit for a steep discount. Since I live and work on-site, the spot is open pretty much anytime, from early morning to midnight, so you can book around your dog’s energy, the weather, or your own schedule. This spot is night-friendly -- the house is set farther back from the play area, so normal dog play is totally fine. I recently installed LED night lights so pups can still burn energy after sundown, and nighttime is much cooler for dogs on hot days. Bug spray/defogger available. Supervised campfire use available, private message me. Great for those who work odd hours, or anyone who wants a relaxed, super undistracted evening visit. Our backyard is a half acre of fully fenced fun! Conveniently located and ample parking. Tons of room to run and sniff! Half of the backyard is grass. The other half is a mix of pollinators and weeds awaiting my picking. It was all buckthorn when we bought the house in 2021 😬 I use natural methods to control weeds by hand picking, cardboard and tarps for smothering patches of weeds as I work on slowly planting the “wild area.” The cardboard is pretty ugly, but it’s very effective in killing invasive weeds. So far I’ve planted more than 150 varieties of perennials 🌻 I haven’t verified that all the plants are dog-safe so please take precautions by preventing your dog from eating the plants. Humans, please try to take care to not trample the perennials in the wild area ❤️

My backyard offers 2 acres of fully fenced forested area with over 50 trees within that area! We keep a trail mowed that loops down into the bottom of the yard so you have a comfortable walking trail and your 4 legged friends can use it as a racetrack! Tons of smells to sniff and ample room for zoomies! There are some stickers/burrs in areas of the yard. For winter months, the slope in the yard can get icy so please wear good shoes and be mindful. A large, open 1.25 acre fenced in yard with multiple small hills that is bordered on the west side by a public walking trail (with 6 foot fence) and on the north side by Rice Creek (with 5 foot fence). Note that the creek is not directly accessible from the Sniffspot. During the winter months, deer and foxes pass just outside of the fenced in yard, while in warmer months the creek entices additional wildlife as well as the occasional canoeist or kayak.
